Byakuya Kuchiki is hot in the first arc bc he's not so much a character as the physical embodiment of the law (the law that ichigo is fighting against that says rukia has to die) after he achieves fan favorite status he sticks around and is no longer hot bc he can't keep being cold and devoted. He needs to be warm and devoted and this change in his characterization only serves to underscore how creepy his relationship to Rukia actually is.
