Season 1 Episode 2: Wendigo
Quote of the ep: Man I hate camping
Rating: 1/6 on the Kinsey Scale
Soup: Lettuce soup. My man Wendy is hungry and this won't fix him unfortunately.
Ingredience:
Onion (1)
Garlic (2 cloves)
Lettuce (a whole head)
Bouillon (1 cube per 0.5 L water)
Cream (125 mL)
Salt
Pepper
What to do:
Chop the onion, chop the garlic, chop the lettuce. Don't forget to boil the water! Saute the onion in some oil or butter, then add the garlic and stir for a minute. Add water and bouillon cubes, bring back to a boil. Add the lettuce and let it boil for maybe 5 minutes, it will not change much texture-wise. Nor flavor. Add salt and pepper if you want more flavor tho. Add cream and stir through. You now have boiled lettuce with flavor. You can puree it if the texure of boiled lettuce is an issue for you. Will this fill you up? No, it's lettuce. Lettuce feast.
Now for the Review:
The episode has a very strong opening with a kid playing video james on the og DS while camping. You can carbon date this episode by that alone. This is the part of Brokeback mountain they don't show you in the theatres. And oh? They ate.
Flash to Sam crying. I saw this lesbian (presumably) on TikTok doing an immitation of Padelecki's cry acting, which was on point. Not a tear shed, much frowning. We all knew Jessica was a smoking babe but she has that death grip too apparently. And then he woke up
Sweet Big Brother Dean showing manly compassion by letting his baby bro behind the wheel of his precious car. The rituals of brotherly love are intricate.
I bet this show could look beautiful if they just added a little color saturation, but maybe that’d give more of a Midsommar vibe.
My my what would be the chance that they’d meet another set of siblings that has to look after each other due to lack of parents? Surely there’s no bonding potential there. Also how did Sam just download the video from the laptop while they were all sitting there. Did they even have wifi to hack into back then?
Something came at night … neither man nor mammal … sipping on that nonbinary tea hunty 🐸☕️
Ooh they’re already dropping the existence of skinwalkers and black dogs. Don’t remember the black dogs unless that’s written as hellhounds later? Wonder how much expo they do on the skinwalker in the first skinwalker ep and whether they re-establish that that's a thing they know exists as if it's the first time they're doing it. I vaguely remember that the first 10 eps may have been shot and shown non-chronologically so there may be some discontinuity in lore and exposure, will be keeping an eye out for that, may have been a different series.
The boys getting grilled about their hunting attire. Embarrassing. Haven’t they literally spent weeks on end with papa hunting things (saving ppl) they should know to dress for the occasion.
I need me a bear trap. Who said that?
I think it’s fun that they establish that the woods are creepy because of the absence of sounds. There’s so many noisy creatures in there and the city slickers don’t realize that. Two pals from The Big City that slept at my place were AMAZED that they could hear birdsong outside my window. I wonder who that comment was for tho, to establish something for folks unfamiliar with unbridled wilderness or as a nudge to the country boys (I love you).
If they hadn’t established that the victims were still alive (so far) I would’ve had an alternate theory than Violent Monster Goring: what if nothing happened to them and their tent just did that?
Interesting that the side characters were grilling the boys about their embarrassing outdoor wardrobe and yet they gotta be told to set up camp for safety at night. Isn’t dying of exposure a big risk in the great outdoors? idk I must admit I’ve never been outside of the manicured European woods, just walk 5 mins in one direction and you’ll find a house or someone walking their dog. Also: do real life hunters typically chase their prey into the woods at night or was that guy especially dumb?
We finally have one of the quotes of all times: "Saving people, hunting things, the family business."
Ah yes, the exposure of the Wendigo myth. I remember the tumler discourse about this, the show was cancelled for appropriating native American culture. And then there were some arguments that it was ok for the time because at least it was some representation of native folklore which didn't happen a lot in mainstream media. Choose your own adventure!
I love how they don’t show the monster but we do see them screaming at it. Is it a conscious decision to build suspense, or did they blow most of the budget on the Women Obliteration Scenes in the pilot?
Dean is okay! He’s just a little tied up right now. He’s such a ho for establishing that he’s a snack to the Wendigo.
All in all o.k. episode, not too plot-forward so mostly just monster of the week. It's a bit of a stand-alone with neither the Wendigo nor the side-characters returning (afaik). One of the classic spooky episodes tho, I think this forreal freaked me out back in the day when I was still afraid of the dark. Rated 1/6 on the Kinsey scale - one point for camping which allows me to reference Brokeback Mountain

Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot
Quote of the ep: No chick flick moments
Rating: 0/6 on the Kinsey Scale
Soup: Paprika-zucchini soup, inspired by Mary and girlfriend being OBLITERATED on the ceiling, which this soup can do to your guts if you add more heat with tabasco or whatever
Ingredience:
Onion (1-2)
Garlic (4 cloves)
Bell peppers (2)
Zucchini (2)
Tomatoes (4)
Carrot (1)
Bouillon (1 cube per 0.5 L water)
Smoked paprika powder
Salt
Pepper
Thyme
Parsley
Creme fraiche (125 mL)
What to do:
Chop everything up, also skin the carrot. Don't forget to boil water Saute the onion in a lil oil until glassy, then add the garlic and carrot. Add the bell pepper and zucchini, stir for like 5 mins. Add tomatoes and add ur herbs and spices. I'm not adding amounts because I just eyeball it (add a lot). Add water and bouillon (however much u want, make it thicc or thin but make it nice), boil for 15 mins. Add creme fraiche and puree to completion. Serve with parsley as garnish and chuck some 'basco in there. Enjoy!
Now for the Review:
Honestly the opening of the pilot was so good. They ate so much with the monster of the week format, and the pilot really sticks to that. You set the scene with the happy American family and BOOM mom's on fire on the ceiling? Who dunnit! It's so dramatic with the room EXPLODING (her pussy popped, severely). It's so over the top it's basically drag at this point.
Kinda cute how they mirror the happy family moment with Sam and his girlfriend (I am not ashamed I forgot her name immediately, I have worked 10 h without pissing today, and why the fuck does her Smurf crop top have a boob slit) which may be a good indicator that she's gonna super die in the next 5 minutes. So many women in this fridge they're gonna need a walk-in!
Dean coming in with the 'Dad's on a hunting trip and he hasn't been home in a few days' is a nice opener too. We all have a concept of what hunting is I guess but What Does That Mean in This Context. Then Sam chiming in with 'what was he hunting?' and off they pop with a shit ton of weapons.
I remember being intrigued by the woman in white because when I first watched this that my region has a lot of folklore regarding lady ghosts including women in white, though they are often a lot cuntier tbh. It's cool that the thing she says parallels 'dad hasn't been home' except it's 'I can never go home,' and she tries to lure dudes to her house with her. In a way the boys will never be able to go home either due to their huntership.
Love that they chose Mulder and Scully for their aliases, also a classic series I'd like to rewatch.
God they really made Sam a nerd for telling a goth chick that her pentagram is not rebellious at all but PrOtEcTiOn aGaInSt eViL SpIrItS. If he went to a real school as a kid he should've been put in a locker.
GHOST CAR is an element I forgot happened right off the bat in the pilot. It's a good way to establish that Car should not be meddled with lest the weekly spook shall face Dean Winchester's wrath.
"No chick flick moments." We get it, you're a man. Talking feelings is a no-go. The performative masculinity is appropriate for the zeitgeist but nowadays we talk about our feelings because we're not catholic anymore Daniel. -> proceed to create Chick Flick - the show for boys
Sam coming in with the hard questions: "have you heard of a white women?" the guy: "you think. THAT has something to do with ❤ Constance ❤ Begone Thot 🔪" Thank god white women aren't real
ok one thing I find kinda stupid that they have to explain Da Rules for every new monster thing they introduce, like how ghosts will eventually be established to be weak against salt and iron or whatever. I get it for the monster-of-the-week format but these guys are supposedly life-long hunters so they must know how to deal with the various things that go bump in the night.
Do we think the majority of the pilot budget went into the OBLITERATION scene for the woman in white being reunited with her kids? It looked like some nice practical effects along with... maybe a lot of CGI for that time?
Jess is the girlfriend's name and she has been obliterated. Not enough budget remaining to explode another house on-screen it seems. RIP in fucking pieces babe, at least you didn't have to act with Padelecki anymore after this.
Very fun pilot, they really managed to intrigue. Rated 0/6 on the Kinsey scale <3

Hello esteemed mutual. If you are reading this, then that means my propaganda is working (or I desperately want it to work). But you might still have questions, so I am here to answer them.
What is Deltarune?
Deltarune is an RPG by Toby Fox, and a parallel story to his first game Undertale (but more on that later). It follows a human named Kris, who lives in a world populated by monsters. One day, they find an entrance to another world, together with their classmate Susie. This is the Dark World, and other one is the Light World. Both worlds exist together and in balance, but something is threatning this balance and throwing it off has disasterous consequences. Kris, Susie, and their friend Ralsei from the Dark World traverse the Dark World in order to close Dark Fountains to keep the world intact.
Have a trailer:
youtube
(Yes, that is the actual trailer.)
This one is slightly more substantial, but you just gotta trust me bro:
youtube
As the trailers show, there are Chapters. Important to know is that by the time of writing this, this game is unfinished! Chapter 3 and 4 have just been released. Chapter 5 is set to release in 2026, and no word on Chapter 6 and 7 yet. No worries, if you buy the game now, the others will be free DLC. You can also play a Chapter on its own, but it is recommended you play all of them. If you don't, you get a default save file and can miss a lot of optional stuff that's only unlocked by doing things in previous chapters. And there is an overarching story, but the Chapters are also made to be playable on its own if wanted.
Also, I don't know where else to put this, but Kris only uses they/them pronouns. Just as with Undertale, transphobes have been arguing since the game came out that this is not the case, but it is and they can die mad about it. It was already stupid with Undertale, but it's especially stupid when you realise what the core message of Deltarune is even about.
How did it advance from Undertale?
In my Undertale propaganda, I admitted that I actually don't like the actual gameplay of Undertale that much. Deltarune greatly improved it, up to the point that I wanted to replay it the moment I finished Chapter 3 and 4 (unlike Undertale, that I have never replayed due to my personal lack of interest in the gameplay). I was actually surprised by how much I am enjoying just playing it. The mini-games and puzzles are more fun. The overworlds are more interesting to me. And okay, the bullet hell mechanic is still there, but combat has been enhanced. There's now a party that consists of at max. 3 members (often Kris, Susie and Ralsei), and each party member has its own stats and actions. There's a drowsy mechanic added, so instead of slay and spare, there's also pacify, and there's also a magic system!
So yeah, I am having a lot of fun there, although just like Undertale, the main enjoyment comes from The Implications and they fuck you up in a different way, compared to Undertale's. This game has much, much more going on. There's a lot more beneath the surface. Even writing that summary at the beginning made me think "Man, this totally undervalues and undersells the actual game."
Okay, then what's the deal here?
On the surface, Deltarune seems like another fun RPG. But it has a lot more than that initial impression. I would know. Chapter 1 got released first, and Chapter 2 much later. Lemme tell you, the difference between Chapters was insane. Chapter 1 was "ah tee hee hee, funny little RPG with funky litt- HWTA THE FUCK WAS THAT?", whereas Chapter 2 was a lot more of "oooooh shit, OH OKAY, oh what THE FUCK is going on?". Chapter 3 and 4 have contributed to that.
Again, it's recommended that you find out all this shit by yourself and realise what the message and The Implications are while you play, but since it's also a selling point that hopefully makes people realise it's more than what you see on the surface... Here we go. Spoiler warning! Skip to the next section if you want to.
Deltarune, like Undertale, takes a very familiar mechanic of the RPG genre and twists it, namely: you, the player. You play games. You are controlling Kris, the protagonist. But it becomes clear at the end of Chapter 1 that Kris is not a silent protagonist that you can control and project onto. Kris is their own person with their own personality and life, and by playing, you rob them of their agency. This is uncomfortable, since in video games, it's how it goes. You play the game, you control the buttons you press (as DOOM said). And that's a given. In Spritfarer, you control Stella. In DREDGE, you control the fisherman. In Sea of Stars, you control Zale and Valere. In Hades, you control Zagreus. In the Legend of Zelda, you control Link, and the list goes on and on. These are established characters and you take over. Even in games where you can give the protagonist a name, you still "inhabit" that protagonist. You're still Joker in Persona 5, whether you call him Ren Amamiya, Akira Kurusu, your own name, or idk Josh Peck (or Da Joker Babyyyy like that one post). You choose the protagonist's actions, dialogue and other choices.
You never stop and reflect on that, because why would you? That's how video games work. If I didn't want to control good ole Link in Breath of the Wild, then I can't play that game. That's part of the entire video game medium. You treat these characters, even established ones (so not only own creations like the Farmer of Stardew Valley), as yourself to some extent. And Kris is introduced as one of these protagonist characters, except they are aware of the fact that they are being controlled by a player and they actively resent you for it and even try to hurt you because of it. It makes people uncomfortable, because even if you try to do "the best" for Kris, or try to make the choices they would want, you're still the one making them, not Kris, and this is framed as a bad thing since, again, Kris actively tries to free themself from you.
(This is also why the idea of people refusing to use they/them for them is even more ridiculous. "Well, I headcanon Kris as he-" THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS GAME IS THAT YOU ACTIVELY HURT THEM AND ROB THEIR AGENCY BY PROJECTING YOURSELF ON THEM OR HEADCANONING THEM IN ANY WAY SINCE IT OVERWRITES WHO THEY REALLY ARE. Jfc.)
And the most interesting aspect, to me, is that Kris fights you and tries to assess dominance. There are moments where Kris does things without your imput. In other games, it'd be "oh, a scripted moment!", but here it's a shift in your relationship between you and Kris. Is Kris winning from you? Are you letting them have some free will for a few seconds? And there are moments where they actively work against you, since they're aware you only get information through them, so they close their eyes at one moment, preventing you from seeing possibly vital information, or they make another character shut up, so that you don't hear what Kris said to this other character "off-screen". Because everything that happens off-screen, or between time skips, or moments where you follow another character, and what not, are moments where Kris is free of you and can act however they want. Characters who knew Kris before you took over their life also notice that they've changed, but no one understands why, because how can Kris explain that they are a protagonist in a game and that they're being controlled by a player, especially if you can possibly stop them from explaining?
I don't think the message is "You are a bad person for playing video games", and you definitely shouldn't feel awful when you play any other game now. Toby Fox is also not going to emerge from your screen to strangle you if you make bad choices, and hell, neither is Kris. All their violence towards you is within the boundaries of the game, since hey, you are playing the game! And it's one hell of a game to play!
So yeah. Good game. I fucking love meta shit.
Does the music slap?
Heck yeah. I haven't listened that much to Deltarune's soundtrack, but it slaps and has absolute bangers in it (I am actually jamming out to Field of Hopes and Dreams while writing this sentenc- oh, the next song is playing now!). It's great and there are some nods to the Undertale soundtrack in it as well.
Do I have to play Undertale first?
No. Undertale is a separate game with its own story, its own core, and its own gameplay. If you have played it before, you will recognise some very obvious easter eggs, and Deltarune and Undertale share a lot of characters, although those are different versions. This is why they're still being compared to each other and why many group them together (you may have seen the #utdr tag, which stands for UndertaleDeltarune).
This is what Toby has to say in the official Deltarune FAQ:
Tumblr media
I, personally, do think it's best to play Undertale first, so that you can get those neat references, but it's not needed.
As an addition to the spoiler section from above: it messes with your initial idea on who the SOUL is, and of course, if you've played Undertale before, you will recognise these characters or know them in another context. Kris will not. It leads to further disconnect between you and Kris.
Is there DLC?
As I said, future Chapters will be released as FREE DLC.
Where can I play this?
PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5! No clue if there will be future ports. Undertale is also available on XBox, so who knows? And I think there is a Switch 2 exclusive thing, but I have no clue cause I play on Switch 1.
Can we play together?
No, this is a solo experience.
Are there content warnings?
As with Undertale, there is a drastically different version of this game that you can play. If you do that route, NPCs behave differently, locations change, things get skipped, and the music becomes eerie. Some Chapters have more changes than others.
This is called the Weird Route, and it's very, very disturbing. I have actually seen comments of people who think the alternative route of Deltarune is more awful than the one in Undertale, and that one is called the Genocide Run. So, uh. There's that. Since Deltarune isn't finished yet, we don't know how this Weird Route will continue and how it'll unravel, but it is very fucked up and the Deltarune turns into a psychological horror game to some. I'd also add a "self"-harm warning here, since in this route, Kris can inflict harm on themself at several moments.
And, as an addition to the spoiler section from above: The Weird Route makes the relationship between Kris and the player even more complex and hostile.
Are there German characters in Deltarune?
Look, Kris is the only human in this game. How big are the chances that they're from Germany?

can we please please please learn to differentiate between things that are good but devalued because of their association with women (caring for children, being compassionate), things that are neutral but seen negatively because of their association with women (the colour pink, having long hair), and things that are bad but associated with women because of misogyny (being materialistic, being stupid) because otherwise we’re gonna keep getting takes like “being gender nonconforming is anti feminist” and “not studying for your classes is feminist”

As much debate as there is about tone tags, 90% of the issues would be solved by just typing the word. Like instead of typing /gen or /hj you can just write (genuine) or (handjob) and you'll be doing pretty much the exact same thing.

Hello esteemed mutual. If you are reading this, then that means my propaganda is working (or I desperately want it to work). But you might still have questions, so I am here to answer them.
What is Undertale?
Undertale is an RPG by Toby Fox and it takes place in a world where humans and monsters used to live together. But a war happened, humans won, and monsters were banished to the Underground. A magic barrier is set in place to prevent the monsters from escaping, but the barrier is one-way, so humans can still go down. The game follows a human child who's fallen down into the Underground and they're trying to find a way back home. But the king of the Underground requires a human SOUL in order to break the barrier and free his kind, so monsters have an incentive to capture them, since killing them for their SOUL gives monsters hope.
Have a trailer:
youtube
Also, I don't know where else to put this, but the protagonist only uses they/them pronouns. Transphobes have been arguing since the game came out that this is not the case, but it is and they can die mad about it.
What's so special about it anyway?
What's great about Undertale is that it uses familiar RPG mechanics and turns them upside down. Undertale is "The friendly RPG where nobody has to die!" and that's because in this game, you don't have to kill your enemies. Like many other RPGs, you have enemy encounters during the game. Think about Shadows in the Persona series, or even Goombas in the Super Mario Bros. series. But instead of attacking them, you can try to resolve your issues without violence. So you can opt to get to know the monsters inhabiting the Underground, including the bosses. It's pretty well-known that this game is about the responsibility of your actions and that there are three endings depending on whether you've killed, and if so, who you've killed. But even before you reach the end, the game changes depending on your choices. There are more common RPG mechanics that get uprooted, but this is the most well-known one.
Fun fact, a YouTube channel that I like has a series called Gaming For A Non-Gamer, where he lets his wife play games and he observes her. It's neat, since it made me realise how much game knowledge I take for granted and, yes, this may make some people roll their eyes, how gaming is a skill. He wanted to let her play different genres, including the RPG one. People recommended Undertale, since it's a popular and well-loved game in the genre, and his wife didn't get it at all. Raz (the channel owner) hypothesised that it was because his wife didn't know the RPG rules that Undertale was deliberately breaking, so she didn't appreciate them. And that's the good shit when it comes to this game.
Cause... here is... my hot take. Or I think. I actually don't like the gameplay of Undertale that much. The bullet hell gameplay is not my favourite at all and I am not interested in playing another game with this mechanic, and the overworld puzzles are meh (albeit intentionally at times). It's the main reason I haven't replayed this game, despite raving over it for years. I am not that interested in doing it again. But the reason why I absolutely fucking love it is The Implications. The lore! The characters! The funny writing! And of course, the incredibly meta aspect of this game. I can talk endlessly about the latter. It's so fucking good.
Meta... stuff?
Okay. Here's the deal. This is gonna go into spoiler territory, so skip this answer if you want to. If you don't know much about the meta aspect of Undertale, then Undertale can be nothing more than a fun RPG with silly characters and fun music. But it's so, so much more. You just need to dig deeper. And usually, I try to be somewhat spoiler free in these propaganda posts, and don't even allude to secrets, but with this game, since it's the selling point in my eyes...
This game not only warps RPG elements, it also is aware of them. The mechanic of saving your game is part of the game, and some characters are very much aware of the fact that this is a game. So, for example, you can slay or spare the first boss, like all of them. The antagonistic character comments on your actions, either by congratulating you for your choice to kill the boss, or by berating you for not killing. But imagine you kill the boss, get the congratulations, and regret it? You quit without saving and reload the previous save. You spare the boss there, so yippie! But instead of the usual beratement, the antagonistic character tells you they know what you've done, and calls you out on it and tells you you cannot get away that easily.
As I said, the responsibility of your choices is a huge part of the game's story, and your choices transcend your saves. Like in real life, violence is frowned upon and by transferring your potentially violent actions to another save file, even if you try to undo them, the game makes a commentary on how you usually are able to divorce yourself from violent choices in video games, since "it's just a game" and you can overwrite it. This leads for an interesting story and some more interesting plot twists and commentary that I will not spoil. It takes away the idea of "it's just a game" that players can have. (Side note: it still is just a game, and I am now making it sound like Toby Fox will personally emerge out of your screen to strangle you if you try to overwrite your choices, but you know what I mean.) Your choices need to be made consciously and you need to deal with the consequences. And again, you cannot get away with it!
The game is also filled with a lot of hidden secrets and what not. Damn, in my opinion, I am still underselling this game, but I suppose a lot of the fun also comes from learning this stuff yourself. It's not like Outer Wilds, where I am like "DON'T LOOK UP ANYTHING!! EVER!!!!", but there sure are a lot of surprises here.
Does the music slap?
Yes, totally. It's filled with leifmotifs, so it really fits the story. I have, once again, no knowledge about music so all I can say is "It's made with a computer!" and it sounds great. I am jamming a lot while listening to the music.
The official Undertale YouTube channel did post an orchestral performance of a portion of the soundtrack, and it's absolutely stunning to listen to. Even if you're not interested in the rest of the game, I recommend that you give it a listen.
youtube
I heard there's a sequel or something!
You're probably talking about Deltarune. It's not a sequel, but it's marketed as a parallel game to Undertale. That being said, it is a separate game and can be played separately. If you have played Undertale, then you recognise a lot of characters, but these seem to be different versions of the Undertale ones.
Actually, hang on, Toby can better answer this himself.
Tumblr media
By the time of writing this, after Deltarune Chapter 4, there seems to be no connection between the games. If we believe Toby's answer, it seems like it'll stay that way. But also... Toby Fox has done wild things and twists before, so who knows.
Is there DLC?
Nope. I'd say that this game is "too old" for the current DLC craze. This game has been finished since the moment it got released. What a concept! I miss it.
Where can I play this?
PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch (and I assume Nintendo Switch 2 as well, due to backwards compatibility), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Most consoles have console-exclusive content, but it's bonus stuff. As the trailer for the Switch version said: "Almost no new content! Same as it ever was." The core of the game is the same.
Can we play together?
Nope, it's a solo experience.
Are there content warnings?
So. Uh. Remember those 3 endings that I mentioned before? One can only be attained by playing the "Genocide Run". Yeah. The name itself already shows that this is not a funky game anymore. If you play the Genocide Run route, the game drastically changes. NPCs behave differently, locations change, things get skipped, the music becomes eerie... and the (psychological?) horror kicks in. And there are creepy jumpscares! I think it depends on how you react to this version of Undertale. Some people think it's just a dece sidestory, others are fucked up by it. The fandom can be very, uh, passionate.
Are there German characters in Undertale?
I don't even think Germany exists in this world.
