I doubt this will get much traction on here, but Puerto Rico’s governor has just passed Código Civil (Civil Code) that has loopholes regarding women’s and LGBT+ rights. This code was passed despite activists’ call for a veto, and was intentionally speedily passed so that public hearings would not take place
In a nutshell, women’s bodily autonomy has the potential to be restricted which can take away their right to abortions, and the discrimination bans against the LGBT+ community are able to be overridden.
5 trans people have died violently in Puerto Rico since the beginning of 2020.
I ask my followers and mutuals to please reblog. There is so much going on in America today and this is one thing to add. There are protests for #BlackLivesMatter in Puerto Rico and a significant black community there. As an Afro Latina and a member of the LGBT community, I ask you to spread this and help.

Anyway, daily reminder from a culturally isolated Romani person.
Gypsy does not mean wanderer.
It literally means ‘people from egypt’ or similar, as europeans believed Romani people were from Egypt. It has become known similar to nomad due to how our ancestors have been forced to be nomadic due to racism and ostracization, but it is a SLUR.
Romani people are STILL being forcibly sterilized.
Romani people are STILL being forced into ghettos.
Romani people are still facing violence and danger in countless European countries- and recently, I’ve seen the beginnings of the extremes in the United States.
Have a little fucking respect and DON’T USE A SLUR THAT’S BEEN USED FOR CENTURIES AGAINST US.
And for the love of whatever’s up there, ESPECIALLY do not use it to describe your witchcraft. It is playing on the ‘magic gypsy’ trope, and is EXTREMELY insulting.
non romani people, please reblog this.

It’s nice to see no still doesn’t mean no in this house. And then if you call it out in any way suddenly you’re making things up. But give it a few days and that old chestnut’ll show itself again.

Hey you ever think about how normal the internet has become as a mediator for our happiness and fulfillment instead of connections with actual human beings? Like people follow hundreds of celebs/models/make up artists who only post their best shots, hair fleeked, perfectly manicured..and people really believe everyone’s perfect but them. Not even the people in these expensive clothes with high quality cameras and photoshop actually look like that in real life.
I see pics y’all post if the newest celeb or whatever and everybody looks..bored? Dead in the eyes? Not a hair out of place, no sweat, no pimples, no realness, no life. And then 8-12 year olds are following these people and thinking adults are really these perfectly styled and cool people. Like why are we doing this? Why did we trade in our authentic selves in exchange for fake internet clout and attention? Who benefits? Who suffers? This internet shit is fucked up, no matter how many jokes we make over the years.
Kids should not be on here freely interacting with adults in the first place, let alone be looking up to these fake ass clout chasers!! Like literally nothing is being done about the massive amounts of pedophilia/sex trafficking/abuse that’s facilitated through the internet and that anyone can find with little effort. It’s fucking wild this is really the peak of our human capacity right now lmao
People talking online got the government watching. Capitalists watching, plotting, collecting data. The internet has people afraid to show themselves unless it’s been edited a hundred times/hand picked. The degrees of alienation from self and others leaves me fucking gagged. I’m ready for some red hot takes about how the internet + capitalism = a hell world we haven’t quite figured out yet but I’m scared

I’m learning my third language right now and the more I work on it, the more I’m glad that English is my native tongue because oh my god how does anyone learn the rules of this miserable cobbled-together nonsense that constantly has exceptions to its own rules and then exceptions to the exceptions
How has anyone learned to pronounce //a n y t h i n g// in English
All of you who learned English as a second language deserve an award and our apologies.

A trans woman says she was forced to close her café in Val David last month after it was repeatedly vandalized and amid a barrage of online reviews deriding her gender identity and political views.
The trouble started almost immediately after she opened her vegan café last spring; people smashed bottles outside the building and left dead animals at its doorstep, Sophia Banks says.
“At first I thought it was maybe some local kids, but the vandalism was just so persistent,” Banks told the Montreal Gazette. “And there were all these negative reviews — that were clearly fake — and the transphobic messages, it just kept happening. … Eventually, it just became so stressful, I felt so singled out.
“Because the vandalism kept happening and the online stuff was just so non-stop, I didn’t feel safe anymore, I didn’t feel like my staff was safe anymore. I was losing money, I was going into work and having a panic attack every week. So we decided to close the business.”
Banks and her partner chose to open a café in the Laurentians because it reminded them of a mountain town in British Columbia; it boasted a charming arts scene, was close to ski hills and, in the summer, lush green forests cover the surrounding mountains.
Things seemed promising at first. Their concept — vegan, cabane à sucre-style food combined with paying their employees $25 an hour instead of asking customers to tip — drew rave reviews from VICE Canada and Veg News.
Banks says it’s possible this wave of publicity combined with her activism on social media began drawing the attention of “right-wing trolls.” In particular, many appeared to be outraged at her opposition to Bill 21, Quebec’s religious symbols ban.
The reviews said nothing about the restaurant’s food or service. They simply left messages like “go home,” “Say no to gender ideology,” “I’m probably too white to be welcome in this establishment” and “We stand with Quebec and Bill 21.”

*Disney announces that they have cast a young black actress to play Ariel, after years of criticism about how they have treated and neglected a Tiana*
*black people have to wrestle with violent white supremacists and Disney racists*: *crickets*
*black people show positivity towards the actress and defend her*
*certain progressives*: “You’re so naive if you think Disney cares about you, you’re being so selfish, there are real people of color who are being harmed, how can you support this when Aladdin… learn what performative allyship is, etc. If you support this movie than you’re enabling ALL of this”

tfw your brother thinks confederates fought to free slaves (and other bizarre myopia about America because how else can he cling to evil power structures without doing so with his chest). Gotta cowardly pretend white supremacists (who are totally not white supremacists actually) are the REAL freedom fighters amirite?
They never have the guts to just be awful people and own their awfulness and clearly he's as pathetically cowardly as they are. I hate this shit.
