"Why do people find the 'four ears' thing to be so weird?" The cat-girl flicked her top pair back in annoyance. "Centaurs have six limbs and I've never seen anyone ask one of them about it."

I know that many compare Xie Lian to Odysseus and Hua Cheng to Penelope but hear me out:
Then, oh, bring it on I'm not dying here, I'm still fighting here I'm holding on 'Til I see it through, 'til I've beaten you
Oh, bring it on 'Til you're out of breath, 'til there's nothing left I'm holding on 'Til I'm in the clear, 'til I'm out of here, oh
There, I see it The island I've been searching for Home, I've reached it My wife and son are past these shores Holding on I am almost there My love, don't be scared Hold on
All the years Hua Cheng fought to get out of Kiln, all the years he spent looking for Xie Lian and finally found him. All the ways he protects him and always tries to protect him (I am almost there, My love, don't be scared) A journey that took too long to return to the person he loves.
I'm emotional over them.
(The song)

You know what I've never really seen realistically depicted in fiction? The way that people in places that get a huge amount of snow deal with said snow. Specifically in the cities. I get that it's probably not exactly an intuitive thing to think about if you've never lived in a place that gets a lot of snow, and even if you do, you probably figure that they must have some really sophisticated infrastructure systems specifically for this purpose. It's not like they'll just scoop the snow off the streets and gather it into huge piles, and then just climb over the progressively larger and larger snow piles every single year for months while waiting for the piles to melt in the spring.
We do. There's no point in planning more sophisticated systems to get rid of something that'll eventually just go away on its own. So they just pile the snow into randomly designated spaces that cars or people aren't supposed to go through, and let it pile up. There's significantly less street parking available in the winter because some spots where you could otherwise park a car are currently the parking spot of a snow pile three times taller than a car.
You get used to it. And if you grow up around here, it never even occurs to you to think of it as something strange in the first place.

Very Silly Concept: a show called "Accessibility Nightmares" but it's structured exactly like Kitchen Nightmares. An accessibility specialist goes to different establishments and helps them make their businesses more accessible.
The accessibility specialist asks why the door at the top of the small set of stairs has a wheelchair symbol on it. The owner replies that's the accessible bathroom. The camera zooms in on the specialist as they process this information.

A customer with a service dog comes in to a restaurant. The hostess tells them they don't allow dogs. The accessibly specialist looks over at the hostess like

And there are web accessibility episodes too. The accessibility specialist stares at the white text on the light pink background of the home page like

The specialist asks why not a single product picture has alt text, and the business owner says "Well I mean, it's makeup, why would a blind person be shopping for makeup?" The specialist just

The specialist asks the web designer how a screen reader user is supposed to complete the captcha portion of the password reset process when there is no audio alternative. The designer admits they don't know.

After Mu Qing confessed how he always wanted to be friends, things got a little bit awkward. But not bad awkward, just weird awkward.
He can see how they're both trying hard to put up with Mu QIng. Xie Lian would chose his words carefully and state the obvious so he wouldn't be misunderstood while Feng Xin would try to not always be offended by what Mu Qing says (it doesn't always work, after all Mu Qing is really used to having a vicious tongue).
Mu Qing makes an effort too, take this: a few days ago, while they were doing their "weekly friendly tea" (a new habit they started), he calmly asked Feng Xin to stop shaking his leg instead of punching him right away. He even explained nicely how he finds the vibrations and noises annoying!
But there is something even weirder.
Ruoye.
Xie Lian's surprising silk band. It was rather... affectionate toward Mu Qing.
It started right after he sewed it back together. He brought it back to its rightful owner and everything was as normal as you'd expect them.
But about a week later, as Feng Xin and Mu Qing went back to Puqi Shrine (Xie Lian had begged them "Please come and visit, i'll prepare a nice meal!", and they both ran out of excuses), it changed. As soon as the door opened, Mu Qing felt a force grip his waist. He's pretty sure the less dignified sound ever escaped his mouth at that moment and he's glad his new friend never brought it up. For a second, he truly thought a monster had attacked him, it was so quick he didn't even have time to react.
Upon reaching his side, Xie Lian has profusely apologised and told Ruoye how impolite it was to treat guests that way. Thankfully, Mu Qing was more surprised than hurt.
But ever since that day, it never stopped.
Whether they were in the Mortal Realm or the Heavenly Capital, if Xie Lian and Mu Qing were in the same room, you can be sure Ruoye was flying around him. Nuzzling his hair, slipping between his ankles, nestled in his neck, once he even found it under his outer robe! Even when they were just walking around, Ruoye would try to attract his attention.
Mu Qing explained how Ruoye had no need to thank him this much but it changed nothing.
In the end, weeks passed and Mu Qing grew quite used to it. Expecting the new touches when he spotted Xie Lian nearby and petting kindly on its head (does it even have a head? When asked, Xie Lian just shrugged and gave one of his awkward smiles) when it was disturbing Mu Qing's work too much.
Without realising it, he even grew used to more new touches. It got easier to not freeze when Xie Lian hugged him goodbye. He even started reciprocating (much to Hua Cheng's irritation, but Mu Qing always has a crude gesture to show him in Xie Lian's back). And the same thing happened with Feng Xin, he no longer backs away when his friend (!!!) nudges him to show him something funny.
So yeah, Mu Qing enjoys his three friends' company (that includes Ruoye, not the Ghost King, thank you very much).

Hua Chengs Budaoweng Dolls
and their bitter irony..
How do ghosts get their powers? Some type of cultivation path. Like how Blackwater eats water ghosts and Qi Rong tries to copy this by eating people.
Hua Chengs cultivation path is Xie Lian. Everything he’s capable of is Xie Lian. The butterflies, the crimson rain, the luck. And yes, even the budaoweng dolls.
What is a budaoweng doll?
It’s a doll that is weighted so when knocked over it stands upright.
Impossible not to see the symbolic meaning there, am I right? Just in case: Xie Lian is a living budaoweng doll. He gets knocked down constantly and has no choice but to get right back up again.
Now for the dark irony of turning foes into budaoweng dolls..
It is both a tribute to Xie Lian, and punishment for its victims.
He is making them powerless, yet forcing them stand back up no matter how many times they’re knocked down. They can do nothing but get up.
He’s forcing resilience onto them while making them helpless. He’s mocking them. He’s making others feel a fraction of what Xie Lian felt.
“You pretend to be so righteous and upright? Well.. now you’re at least upright.”
It’s brilliant. It’s beautiful. It’s poetic justice. It’s little things like this that make me fall in love with tgcf over and over
