It’s a heart problem
We all face trials and temptations in life. It’s not about going through life without facing trials - which is impossible - but rather it’s about how we act when we are faced with them.
I heard a sermon by pastor Paul Washer once in which he talked about two men facing the same situation and how differently they acted. One man was late for work and his wife asked him to take the trash out and he yelled at her and blew her off and got to work and went on his day without thinking about the incident with his wife. Another man faced the same challenge where he was late for work and his wife asked him to take the trash out and he yelled and blew her off, but that incident started to eat him inside on the way to work and once he got to work he called his wife and apologized for his behavior and told her he’d take out the trash when he got home.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones put it like this, “It isn’t the temptations that meet us on the streets that determine our conduct; it is the heart of the man who faces them. Two men may face the same conditions; one falls, the other stands. The difference is not in the temptation but in the heart of the man.”
We will all be faced with challenges that will test our faith in this life. Whether it be temptations of the flesh, sickness and death, broken friendships and relationships, or whatever else it may be, we will have them in this life because we live in a world of sin. How we respond to these challenges is what will set us apart from unbelievers and those who aren’t properly following His Word.
Jesus Christ is the standard to which we should compare ourselves to. Not your parents, not your friends, not your pastors, only the Lord. He set the example by living a perfect life. We have His Word to guide us in this life. When faced with trials and tribulations, let us find comfort and wisdom in His Word so we may “walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude.”

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.- Romans 5:10 NKJV

Joy from God is unexplainable. It’s so pure, and sweet. I could have the worst day of my life, but I still have a hope deep down inside me that doesn’t waiver. When people ask me, “How’s life?” I can’t ever say it’s awful. Even if everything is falling apart, I still know life is beautiful because I have Jesus. This is what joy is… temporary moods, seasons, and rough patches don’t determine the state my heart is in. God’s goodness triumphs all of that, and I make it through the bad parts because I know God is still good. Are you confused yet? I told you it’s unexplainable! You don’t understand joy from God until you truly experience it for yourself.
