Soooooo, i got into MTG commander and there are a buncha cards that really caught my attention. admitatly my brain is super yugioh-pilled but i just gotta talk about them.
Tumblr media
THIS CARD, is a card i stuff in nearly every deck now. Why? because it lets me do some super busted things and fits nearly everywhere.
I found this card because, unlike yugioh, MTG handles disruption fundamentally differently in most cases. OFC blue is gonna be one of my favorites with it's draw power and negates, but in yugioh you summon monsters(creatures) that let you get a once per turn negate, traps you searched(tutored) for, and sometimes they make it somewhat more limited. in MTG you basically can run the equivalent of a handtrap that prevents summoning pretty easily, YET there's no way to be able to repeat it, or at least the cards that do basically are adding some sorta mana tax or something. so i discovered the enters mechanic and blink decks, and here we have
Tumblr media
which basically lets you grab a powerful... well i can't call it a spell because everything cast is a spell, er... is there a MTG term for backrow? i can't find any slang eh, but here's the thing, with displacer kitten now your counterspell is basically limited by your mana. 1 mana counterspells means your islands are your "nuh uh" count, fierce guardian means infinate counterspells (for noncreatures). and tutors... well they can be used ESPECIALLY in multi color decks.
but that's just a combo, where you'd need to find 2 specific pieces in order to grab it. what's the point if you don't draw the other piece? well if your playing blue, being able to get another counterspell on it's own is pretty handy, or maybe some draw, or well nearly every deck prolly has a sorcery you'd pay to recover, and then worst case you have a blocker. solid enough card to justify itself unless your deck's been refined to the point where there's not enough room for a little more fat (but as commander is pretty casual, i feel like that's a CEDH mentality, OR perhaps it's not the fat you wanna keep.)
but for displacer kitten, that's basically a card which can turn your mana rocks back online. unless your playing green to the point you barely see those (like sol ring, and arcane signet are the main ones), which a simic deck has some crazy synergy with this combo anyway, most likely your ramp is a mana rock and if you cast a 1 mana spell with displacer, you can make say a tutor basically free. in fact all your spells have their cost reduced by one, and you can use a blue spell to untap an arcane signet to get the other color(s) without really any issue. plenty of good cards have enters effects anyway, so honestly this engine fits in any deck! i might have a problem tho because i started to put it in every deck i can...
