"When you're alone and life is making you lonely, You can always go, Downtown, When you've got troubles, all the noise and the hurry, Seems to help, I know, Downtown, Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city, Linger on the sidewalks where the neon signs are pretty, How can you lose? The lights are much brighter there, You can forget all your troubles, Forget all your cares, So go downtown, Things will be great when you're, Downtown, No finer place, for sure, Downtown, Everyone's waiting for you..." "Sometimes I feel like there's a hole inside of me, an emptiness that at times seems to burn. I think if you lifted my heart to your ear, you could probably hear the ocean. The moon tonight, there's a circle around it. Sign of trouble not far behind. I have this dream of being whole. Of not going to sleep each night, wanting. But still sometimes, when the wind is warm or the crickets sing... I dream of a love that even time will lie down and be still for. I just want someone to love me. I want to be seen. I don't know. Maybe I had my happiness. I don't want to believe it but, there is no man, Gilly. Only that moon." Horror Character Appreciation - Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens in Practical Magic (1998) dir. Griffin Dunne

It was kinda sad and disappointing how no one noticed Oak’s struggles and schemes. How come the whole family didn’t notice anything weird? Vivi noticed something was off with Jude in TCP, even though she couldn’t tell what exactly; Taryn too, she talks about how they started lying and hiding things from each other in the Lost Sisters. Even Oriana in TCP accused Jude of scheming (but she was like that most of the time so lol). Like, yes, they didn’t know the extent of what Jude was up to, but they noticed there was something going on so I find it hard to believe nobody noticed anything strange with Oak. I know they ain’t kids at school anymore, Jude and Cardan have a whole ass kingdom to rule, Taryn has a child of her own to raise and Vivi had her business to attend and bills to pay in the mortal world, so it’s natural they couldn’t be watching him 24/7 but this still seems like bullshit to me.
And yeah!! Jude is cunning and observant and kinda hard to deceive. She is the deceiver, watching everyone and everything 24/7. She also has spies literally everywhere. Yet there was 15/16yo Oak out there dealing personally with traitors that the sovereigns and their huge network of allies/supporters didn’t notice. Randalin whined about Jude from day one so him being a conspirator wasn’t really groundbreaking imo. HB could’ve came up with someone less obvious
One thing about The Prisoner's Throne that just made no sense is Randalin attempting to murder Jude and Cardan and almost succeeding - well, partly at least.
I mean, even Balekin and Madoc had to wait for Eldred and Dain to be in a vulnerable, transitioning, position before attacking. How is it that now everyone is free to attempt to murder the High rulers and almost succeed? I mean, Suren might have had a chance due to the kind of powers she had, but ordinary soldiers... Cardan literally created an island out of nowhere and turned Nicasia into a tree two seconds later like it was nothing and when he had just started to use that magic. TPT is set like 8 years later, he must master those abilities at that point. And Jude is... well, Jude. There's no way she didn't see that knife coming.
Also, cunning "mastermind, raised by Madoc" Jude and "I used to act like a fool, so I know when someone is pretending to be one" Cardan couldn't see through "openly against the idea of a mortal Queen" Randalin's game? Please, someone tell me where is the sense of it all.
#I’m so sorry about the rant#I’m just so frustrated with a lot of things in the duology#I could go on complaining lolol
