hi everyone, i'm a refugee living in northern brasil. that is my actual legal status and i have papers about it. my difficulties in accessing public resources have been a major recurring topic on my blog for almost 6 months (thank you USA and bolsonaro)

ive been homeless for years. i just signed off on my first apartment in a long time and for better or for worse, in brasil landlords do not provide furniture. i have no kitchen basics like a refrigerator, gas, or eating utensils. everything is closed on sunday so that third pic is what i'm eating tomorrow. i am hungry most of the time right now

i don't even own the lawn chairs. the landlord's brother will be back for the lawn chairs at some point. i would go buck fucking wild for a cheap desk.

id like to be able to immediately focus on this issue but also i have a weird mole that doctors say I should get biopsied because it is potentially cancer. but the underfunded brasilian public health system can't squeeze me in for another six months (thank you once again to USA for interfering to get Bolsonaro elected) so i have to go private so that's about US $80.

Help Ahmed and his father

Ahmed ( @mazen-fmaily ) has been fundraising to help his elderly father. His dad faces a variety of health complications, including hepatitis, kidney disease, and heart issues. He relies on machines and ventilators for life support and Ahmed has to keep up with medical payments in order to keep him connected. On top of life support, Ahmed's father also needs daily dialysis treatments and oxygen. Serious emergencies sometimes arise where his father needs surgery.

Now Ahmed is also facing medical costs of his own. He was shot at while trying to collect aid for him and his father. He needs surgery to reconnect the tendons in his leg, or else it will have to be amputated. I have not included photos of Ahmed's bandaged leg to hopefully avoid this post being flagged, but if you need to see them yourself, Ahmed shared some photos in this post

Ahmed is the sole provider for his father. His dad relies on him not only for his health, but also to bring him food and water. Ahmed already had to walk long distances and put himself in harms way to find food for him and his dad, but now his leg is injured and he may even lose it.

There is a standard media depiction of a "healed" person. Someone who has Gone To Therapy. I've noticed this in a few works recently. We often see them at the end of a story, maybe in a "ten years later" epilogue. They speak in a soft, serene voice. They have Accepted what they cannot change. They have let go of a lot, including most of what we see them actually care about in the story itself. They are Happy, At Peace, in some non-descript way. They bare little resemble to the person we were actually shown. They bare little resemblance to any person. We were shown, as we usually are in stories, an agent, a desirer, someone becoming. Now they have Become. And they look back on all that silly becoming as something childish that they have moved past. Fire, you know, fire is for children who don't know any better. To be Healed is to have your fire rightly extinguished; to not even miss it.

I think what gets me with the whole "positionality of independent artist/artisan" discourse is the fact that it's soooo stupidly simple unless you view class as income based or want to needlessly moralize as to position yourself as pure.

I'm an independent artisan, I am petty bourgeois because I have petty bourgeois class interests and have small amounts of capital--even if it's just in my personal checking account. It does not matter that I make the same amount I'd make working retail full time.

Capital is not the same thing as wealth or money more generally. Capital is money used to gain more money. When I buy a hide and hardware, I am utilizing my money as capital so that I can transform those materials into a final product that I sell for more than those materials cost me. Thus, it is in my interest to be able to get those materials for as cheaply as I can, which is to say, it is in my interest for the companies that I buy from to buy their necessary labor as cheaply as possible. There is a distinct possibility that I make less than the workers who raise the cows, tan the leather, and work in the warehouse, but they are still working class--someone else extracts surplus value from their labor--whereas I am not.

I sometimes vend at a local sex shop. If there were to be a struggle between the workers and the owners, it would be in my direct material interest to side against the workers in order to maintain my relationship with the shop. Whatever personal choice I make in the matter is irrelevant. Whether I act against my own interests or not, I still occupy a position that puts my interests in opposition to the workers' interests.

Yeah I just can’t get into male characters. Every time one shows up he’s always just the Male Character to get brownie points and make an obvious epic maleboss so the writer can feel better about themselves. Not to mention they’re always getting in the way of my cute yuri ship. I just rather go focus on women instead. They’re always the more interesting and better written characters than the one random man they decided to shoehorn in.
