But this does run into some fascinating concepts of gender and class to me. Throughout the ages, the actual arbiter of privilege was not gender but class; even in medieval times, the few warrior women there were claimed their superiority and capabilities by asserting their noble class, not by asserting all women should have rights. The narrative that they had to #overcome #misogyny as their primary obstacle was actually a bit rarer than you might think.
This framework only really changed in the 1700s (also in the 1500s, because women as servants to men was codified into law both eras.) Suddenly, All Men were viewed as more capable than women, no matter how far “below” them in class; while things have since shifted, that perception of gender never really recovered.
So, in modern day America, there’s still this kind of dominant misconception that it’s Women vs Men as the primary oppressive force, when the far steeper axis of oppression is, as for most of history, social class. And white folk fall into The Class That Could Own Slaves and black people are The Class Previously Enslaved. (And that’s not even counting prisons right now.)
So yes, if you ever analyze a black man as above a white woman of any stripe*, you’re guzzling the radfem koolaid and you need to get your sorry ass out of there! No nonsense in my neck of the woods!
*assuming they’re in the same social/wealth category, of course, and not accounting for specific circumstances.
I do think any (usa-centric) analysis that automatically puts a black man in a position of privilege above a white woman when black folk were kept as slaves less than 200 yrs ago is ultimately very silly. ymmv.

I cant stop thinking about "to be a trans woman in the larger queer community is to surround yourself with potential ticking time bombs." I've fully lost count of how many time bombs I've essentially begged to see me as fully human. How many I can never know if I fully diffused or if I just prolonged the inevitable. I've lost track of how many have exploded in my face. I try and review the list in my mind and it's like be burned all over again

Reframing TERFs’ hatred of men as a hatred of women seems dangerous. “TERFs hate women” is a useful shorthand, but taking it as fact decenters their goal to replace the gender binary with the sex binary. Cis men, while hated, are OK to them because they’re staying in the correct lane, and trans people (particularly trans women) fall under their ire for transgressing sex boundaries.

Yeah, it definitely seems like that. And it's especially confusing (and also telling) because of the ongoing conversation about the violence Black men face at the hands of police. This isn't to say the police don't go after all Black people, of all genders, but the fact that people can reblog posts about how young Black boys with toy guns are for some reason perceived as a threat, but not make the connection that it's Black masculinity that is perceived as threatening or inherently violent (from childhood) is just...... "reading theory" should not just be a box someone checks, it needs to be applied to real life. Otherwise what's the point of reading it. But some people on here make it incredibly obvious their only intention with reading theory is to brag about their moral superiority and shame other people for not reading theory as well as them.
That's exactly it honestly — there's such a cognitive disconnect that has to happen to think that way.
Like — even if they're "reading theory" they're clearly not reading anything written by Black authors because Black activists, authors, etc. have been identifying that masculinity and masculinization are key components in racially motivated violence for decades.
Just to put his name on your example — Tamir Rice was a 12 year old child with a toy gun. He was killed by a white police officer because Black boys are adultified by under white supremacy by virtue of Black masculinity being treated as inherently violent, dangerous, and sexual.
Tamir Rice was murdered in 2014. He would have turned 23 years old this year. He should be graduating college. Instead he is dead.
The tangible real world consequence of the demonization of black masculinity is murder. I truly struggle to understand why some people cannot comprehend this.

gotta be honest I just fundamentally don't get the concept of hatewatching. like sure I've put a dumb movie on during a get together with friends to get silly entertainment out of it. but whenever another disney live action remake or harry potter thing or whatever comes out and I have to see posts on my dash being like "boycott it! if you REALLY have to see how bad it is at least pirate it!!" I'm always like. bitch you live like this? you watch movies you know you'll hate? you take time out of your day - and you have a limited number of days on this earth - to watch a movie you'll hate, when there are so many great movies in the world that you could love? I'll never understand it.

stoned and autistic at a party trying to make conversation: I find the comparative lifespan of organisms so interesting. Spiders are comparatively long lived animals. Female black widows can live up to 3 years but their male counterparts rarely live four months. Some tarantulas live upwards of 20 years. The longest lived spider was around 43 years old when she was cruelly assassinated by a parasitic wasp. Domestic rats have a lifespan comparable to female black widows. To put things into perspective, there are spiders that remember a pre-pandemic world but it is likely every rat on earth was born post-COVID. There could be a spider out there born when Reagan was in office.
