Zomg… this brand. PUPPIES MAKE ME HAPPY. Probably the cutest/coolest/I-had-to-have-it-moment-I-saw-it brand ever. The shirts aren't cheesy either and are a really sexy fit! I can think of a million ways to rock em.

So I'm sure you know I am entirely in favor of the uber cool tee. I am always looking for something different and worthy of serious street cred. These shirts are all adorable and rad. Literally felt like I had to share it with you babes right away. Okay and honestly though.. if I were to get fired.. or get dumped.. or have a bird shit on my head or something.. I think if I were wearing a puppy shirt it would totally lessen the sting.

You can purchase their stuff HERE and for a fun account to follow def check out their "pupstagram" HERE. I have another puppy post on the way next week so stay tuned!!
Mucho love,

YAY for this fun day bunnies! I love getting dressed up for the occasion and tomorrow calls for playful and sporty while keeping' it cute!
Here are some rule of thumb guidelines for a fashionable super bowl Sunday y'all:

Don't spend so much time on your makeup, hair and outfit that you walk in and people think, "Well.. that girl tried hard" or "Someone get mizz uptight a beer stat." Put in effort, but don't go over the top. You know what I mean.

Don't rock a basic, boxy, starchy sports team tee as is. Why not make it unique and cut it up to add some feminine shape and lines? Here are some youtube links:
Make it a fringe tee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eapUACCQCFI
Make it a muscle tank: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9OQi7vCkQg Make it off the shoulder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruX8nN7rmIU

TACKY = Orange/Blue or Green/Blue socks, with the same team colored bandana, hair in pigtails, topped off with your team's sports tee and hat. SLUTTY = a halloween referee costume or too much ass and boobie at the same time.

So up until yesterday I literally kept saying it was the 49ers playing the Seahawks. LOL.. clearly not a big sports follower and I don't feel like posin' so instead of choosing a team I'm just dressing casual fun and going for the beer and artichoke dip. Loves it. And so much easier.

Stilettos and pumps while watching a sports game goes back to rule 1. Great game day shoes = wedges or verrrry chunky heels, vans, converse sneaks, wedge sneakers, yo nikes, etc.

Seriously it's a no-fail way to look playful, sexy, and comfy. Go team! If all else fails and you need some inspiration for a cute fit.. check out @MichellePalos's outfit for last year's Super Bowl. Die for it!

Fug Fashion
90% of fashion magazines are delirious
Now this isn't necessarily FUG fashion so much as it's fug fashion journalism and brand placement.
It seriously annoys me when fashion magazines write about something being "affordable" or advertise the "look for less" when what they are showing is still damn expensive for most people. Like most of the time I want a "look for less" for their original "look for less." Like, "This coat is usually $2000!" But here is one for $600! Bargain!!" Ummm how about you show me one for $150 you crack smokin' biotch. Affordable my ass. $600 is a splurge! Idiots. Okay ANYWAY.. so this was a page found in Marie Claire with big whompin words saying "LUXE FOR LESS"… you tell me if this shit is what us normal peeps would call "less."

LOL imagine someone trying to justify these purchases to their husband or something. Trying to tell them it's affordable because a magazine said so.
"Oh honey, this clutch was ONLY $650.. and this one piece suit that I'll probably only wear once, maybe twice, is only $210.. deal right? And these sunglasses.. well, they look like they could come from Urban Outfitters but why not spend $575 on a really good pair.. it's luxe for less they said! Okay okay so these shorts are ugly but they are in season so I thought why not.. only $295! They'd look cute on an old person's cruise or golfing right? And no silly, these sandals aren't from Payless! They are KENZO.. duh.. don't worry kept it under $200! Such a steal!! THANKS Marie Claire!" Dude if you're going to do product placement don't address us as morons by telling us this is economical. Just be real. "This is some pricey shit but maybe you'll find inspiration from it." BAM. Coulda been that easy.
Until next time bunnies!,

Floral dresses are not just for meeting the parents and picnics. When combined with the right accessories you can easily go from "lovely" & "sweet" to "Dammmmn" in a snap. Use this edition of Dressed as yo reference ;)

This dress was able to stretch long on Sara's bod (for formal affairs) AND go the shorter length (clubs, bars) due to the clingy fabric. Step uno.. the kind of floral dress you'd wear out on the town should be one with a canvas that's clings to your body.

Next you want to sass it out with some BOLD accessories to offset the lightness of the flowers. With Sara we used two gold statement rings, one from WildFox and one of a boom box (Because why the hell not) along with a leather and gold black cuff. Cuffs can be a bit more edgy which is what we were going for. We went with a black and gold intertwined belt and fab hair stylist Eileen Souk did a rocker pony to complete the look.
Side note- this would have looked badass with a chunky layered necklace.. which we had planned.. but had a little too much wine by the end of the shoot and def forgot to throw it on. Whoops not sorry!

Oh yeah- and you need some serious hot hot shoes. 100% can NOT go easy on the shoes with this look.

Believe it or not, this is a stretch cotton dress from Forever 21. I know right… looks way more expensive. That's the cool thing about floral duds- they usually look expensive no matter where you get them from. Why shell out if you don't have to?
Thank you to Fluxx Nightclub for letting us use their rad wall from a previous theme for the photoshoot! Mucho appreciate.
Strut the floral thang babes. Tag me on insta at@Yurkstyle or #yurkstyle so I can see your fab fits!
Love you all,

If there is anyone who dons sweaters like no otha, it's LF Jolla stylist Elim Cho. I 100% knew I wanted her to do a look for y'all that incorporated a sweater because she makes them look so effortless and cool. This hot bitch gave us a few tips and tricks for pulling them off and how to master this rad ass look she picked out.

You know.. Winter is just one of those times when it's PERFECTLY AWESOME to rock a sweater when going out. You just have to know how to style it. In Elim's words.. "I basically live in sweaters. I dress them up with [the right kind of] heels, jewelry, and lipstick."
It can be as simple as that.

First.. find yourself a mini that you like. Be it loose or skin tight. Just make sure it's short. Since you're wearing a sweater (which is more fashion-y than sexy) you gotta spice it up with a little skin.
Says Mizz Cho.. "Don't pair it with anything too baggy or you can end up looking frumpy."
Second.. know that you're going to rock this with rad pumps, sick sneakers, or supes chunky heels. No strappy Stilettos. It just won't work. Obvi Elim chose high wedge black sneakers for this look. And WORKED it yowzaaaa.

Most important part of the look? The sweater.. DUH! Crew neck pullovers are GRAND. A few reasons..
1. They fall all nicely on the hips/bum 2. Freaking FAB if you're having a bloated day 3. They are classic and everyone loves a timeless piece 4. Comfy as can be and supa easy to just throw on

Some last tips/tricks to leave your sassy little self with.. Elim tells ya.. "[You can wear sweaters] with anything.. I wear mine with everything from shorts, jeans, skirts, to wearing them over dresses."
Her favorite style of sweater? "Oversized is the way to go." (agreed.)
And thurrrrr you have it! Wear them sweaters proud babes.
xx Katey Suzanne
PS: Her skirt is American Apparel and her sweater is thrifted! PSS: Awesome geometric white background from FLUXX nightclub!

Oh my gorgeous. I whole heartedly adore Lana Del Rey for this photo. She is so stunning, alluring, and most importantly, honest. Seemingly there is no sense of guilt or anxiety in this photo, and rather more of a self-assured and confident feeling within it.
As a woman I entirely understand striving for beauty, for perfection. And I entirely believe what a waste it is to struggle in achieving what can never be. Perfect.. does. not. exist. And how I wish I could take back the hours I've spent shaming myself in previous years for not looking like this image I longed for in my head.
I remember my anxiety on prom night in high school. I had spent so much money on a dress. Dieted and worked out to the point of exhaustion. Had my teeth professionally bleached for hundreds of dollars (and that shit HURT too.) I raced home every day from school for an entire MONTH just to catch the last hour of sun so I could lay out and tan. The night of prom, after all the "prep work" I had done for this fleeting moment, with heavy false lashes on, fake nails, hair fried and makeup done.. I looked in the mirror and instead of giving myself credit for all the shallow shit I put myself though to look this good (for nothing) for this night, I thought.. "damn I forgot to get my eyebrows waxed." I was seventeen. I'm sorry but WHAT THE %#^$. And teens how it even worse now. Poor things.
I can call to mind getting the job at FLUXX two years ago (which by the way took me 7 interviews and 5 months to get) and when they passed me my contract across the desk and told me the news, followed by "you start a week from today" I should have walked out thinking: "I'm a boss ass bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch" RIGHT? Go f*ckin' me! I worked hard to get that! I can't wait to stand behind those velvet ropes and be proud! Instead I walked out thinking, and I kid you not, "How toned can I get in a week? Should I lose a few pounds? I should lose a few pounds.." DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. And my Momma didn't raise me to put such emphasis on superficial crap.
I take responsibility for my past thoughts but somehow I can't help but blame the media for putting this enormous pressure on women to look a certain way. I find perfection to be so colorless and boring now- and I strive for Yurkstyle.com to be a place of ALL KINDS OF BEAUTY… dimples, bruises, crooked teeth, big noses, bushy eyebrows, white, black, latin, asian, pacific islander, skinny, curvy, muscular, big ass, no ass, boobs galore or none at all, you name it.. I love ya baby. I celebrate your incredibly special self. We're going to do grand things together in the world of fashion.
ANYWAY…to close.. thank you Lana, for showing how AMAZEBALLS you are and rejecting that photoshop monster. You rock. *Ass slap* MUAH! xx Katey

☃ The 12 Sweaters of Christmas! ☃
I looooove sweaters. And when they lay right, they can make an outfit look so chic AND keep you cozy. Right now you'll see a lot of trendy sweaters/sweatshirts in the stores and online. I wanted to give you a list of some of my favorites I've found that aren't TOO trendy (or outdated) and would definitely be good buys for the closet. Just as important- I wanted to give you a list of styles to avoid/ think twice about buying.
First- let's start with what's becoming too trendy right now or are just outdated/aging- aka if you wear it you won't be anything special. You'll look good, but not super individual. Yadida?
1. Anything that says LA / NY / BOY / HOMIES Simply because it is so over saturated and on every single corner you look.

Time to move on. 2. Cheap looking Aztec/Tribal prints This is a tough one because there are some RAD sweaters out there with the tribal look that are worth the buy. The ones that are not are the cheaper looking ones.. usually these will have one maaaaybe two patterns on it using only two colors. They lack an authenticity vibe and are eh-ver-E-where.
Notice how both of these sweaters only use two colors are really do not switch up the pattern? Look for that and avoid. I'll give examples of DO's later on.
3. Sweaters with ruffles How do I put this… it looks way too "prude" and "office."
I knowwww you see it.
4. The happy face print / The daisy flower print These two prints are getting way way way too mass produced. They are becoming overly trendy. Cute, yes, but if you love having your own thang going, these prints aren't for you.

Although one of the girls at the FLUXX office rocked a daisy print sweater so perfectly the other week it did have me rethinking this! She was the exception to this.
5. This particular animal print Because it's on every single site and on every single blogger.

On to the next. Better than zebra though.
6. The khaki/cream or white stripe. This color combo is starting to get outdated. Give it a year or two before you add more of these color duos to your closet.
This one is just general though- I do believe there are sooommme worthy khaki and white striped sweaters out there at the moment.
Now here are some great choices TO include in your wardrobe.
1.Fleece crew neck pullover / Chunky knit pullover Tried and true and always super cute.
I love this one in the oatmeal grey color. Picture it over a tight black skirt with fun tights and ankle booties- being able to accessorize with any jewelry you want!
Buy it here from Alternative Apparel
So freaking cute. Tomboy adorbs. I'll tell you what though.. you can find a lot of awesome crew neck pullovers from good ole' thrift shops. Just a tip! But is one is primo.
Buy it here from ASOS
2. Bright colored sweaters
Go for the bold, man. Why the hell not? You'll spice up your winter look and will definitely stand out. I love this cropped green number.
Buy it here from NastyGal
3. Ombre knit
It's something different and can easily be a statement piece for your outfit.
Buy it here from TopShop
4. Mono colored patterned sweatshirts It's the simplicity and attention to detail that really catches the eye with the patterned overlay. When done as the same color as the sweatshirt... Le love.
Buy it here from Thread Sence
5. A thick knit cardi
Over a dress. Over skinnies. It's a great staple for any closet and is pretty much timeless. Go for the BUY!
Buy it here from Nasty Gal
6. An expensive LOOKING tribal sweater Doesn't have to BE expensive y'all. Notice the difference between this one and the Aztec/tribal ones earlier. This one has way more pattern switch up and use of colors.
Buy it here from Nasty Gal
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Hope you're amped on getting your sweater game on!
--MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW ME at@Yurkstyle on instagram for a chance to win an amaaaazing sweater jacket from Van De Vort boutique! Details on the insta muh babes.--

A Chilly But Sunny Day Fit So let’s say you’re doing something social during the day (or night) and you wanna look semi hot, pulled together, and still relaxed at the same time. It’s chilly out, but the sun is shining so you can still get away with a little skin. Try a fit like this muh bunnies.

It’s simple, sexy, yet still covers enough for the Fall/Winter days when the sun is out.

Ya don’t need much.
A long sleeve button down with the sleeves rolled up and the buttons buttoned down to a point that says “this is kiiinda risqué but not slutty at all.” Actually perfect for the girl, like yours truly, with micro boobies! Tie the shirt up as far or low as you’d feel most comfortable doing. Just don’t go higher than your waist.
A long, cotton skirt that sits on your hips but doesn’t hug you too tight- needs to flatter the stomach.

A belt with some character that sits kinda slanted over your hips.
Some bangles and a cocktail ring with some color in it.
Layer some different necklaces- if your top is more plain (like mine) then go for variety like I did. If your top has more going on- stick to one or two simple necklaces.

I went with jellies for shoes. Me likey.

How the belt should look from the back when sitting on your hips.
BTW: The shirt is from RAILS LA. By far my FAVORITE company for button downs. Definitely more of an investment, but they are pieces you’ll have in your closet forever.
Hope y’all have a happy week! Tweet or Insta me anytime! @Yurkstyle. MUCHO LOVE. XX Katey

Needed to have a style crush moment and pay homage to Sienna Miller because I've pretty much been fashion obsessed with her for the last 5-6 years. So much of my inspiration for putting outfits together comes from her!

The look that started my love for green dresses. It's from her own line as well, Twenty8Twelve.

Faux fur… jadore.

I mean.. please please please be faux. lol

I love how she contrasts styles. Here with white lace and black biker boots. Love.

I'm honestly okay with tights as pants sometimes.

Baggy sweater, skinnies, sneaks and a top knot. Perfect casual combo.

In LOVE magazine, August 2010.
Who are some of your style idols? Tweet me at @yurkstyle :) More posts coming soon!

You know how everyone seems to notice the girl in the red dress?....

Well that hot bitch is gonna be out-shined by this hot bitch in this yellow number. Read on babes.. you know you could WORK this fit too. *finger snap*

First thing you know should know about rockin' a yellow dress to the club.. ya gotta bring it all or nothing! No "safe" heels.. no fear of incorporating other colors.. no party poopin' attitude.. no "typical" hairdo..
When pulling out your yellow dress.. let your creative mind run a little wild with how you're going to style yourself. Think sky high heels. Ether super sultry or super edgy. (We went with the edgy look.. good ole' Jeffery Campbell Litas.)
Do your hair up reeeeal rad. Doesn't matter how, just make it a statement style.
Then think to yourself.. what color could pop with this? We went with teal, obvs.

Other good accent colors with yellow?

Burnt orange.. daaaark charcoal grey, emerald green.. to name a few.

Have some fun next time you pull out your yellow dress... or when dress shopping.. try this color out! You will for sure stand out in a crowd. And psychologically it is the happiest color so.. just sayin'.. happy girls are the prettiest- it's true what they say. ;)
Show me your favorite yellow dress/outfit! Upload it to instagram and tag me:@Yurkstyle or #Yurkstyle.

So obvi Christian Lacroix is a huge fashion designer who is known for creating beautiful couture gowns. So for fun, here is some fashion facts for ya.
First off.. in case you didn't know..
Christian Lacroix pronunciation:
KRIS CHEN LA-KWAH
This is what he looks like:

and check out below the care that goes into shipping one of his couture dresses!

"When shipped abroad, a Christian Lacroix wedding dress travels upright in a cloth case, each layer resting in a bed of tissue. Such extraordinary care and attention to detail is the foundation of the couture."
Wow. Treated like a real life princess dress huh?
I was too lazy to look for the original source on who said this but if you find it, tweet me @Yurkstyle.
Have a fab day bunnies.

I hate, haaaaaate how the fashion world distorts reality with it's overuse of photoshop.
What the hell does this much photoshop do except
give us false advertisement
2) create unattainable ideals of what we aught to look like
3) undermines real beauty and God's original creations
Bunnays... I promise you I'll never use photoshop on me or any other Yurkstyle models. Never have and never will! Except maybe a zit or bruise because that's temporary (even then.. keep the zit, keep the bruise!) and we'll always hype the real life movement. Keep it real my G's!

J'adore American Apparel (Reasons why)

Over the past few months I've found myself giving more and more kudos to American Apparel. The marketing is honest and the integrity behind making the apparel is classy and noble. Granted, the company was ironically first established in Canada (so what? it's clothing) and has had some law suits in its day (all of which were later dismissed) and the owner may or may not be a creep and we'll probs never know but he's not the only one behind the brand. We can't take away the good that American Apparel has done. Controversial, yes.. but we shouldn't judge anything with a black and white viewpoint and their overall message.. imperfection is perfection.. be you because you rock.. uphold the American Dream.. Fashion is art.. is just too dope to not talk about.
Here are some of my fave images of theirs along with some deets on AA and why we're loving this brand.

They are huge endorsers of the baseball tee. And ponytails. Le love.

MADE IN THE U.S.A.... hell yeah. So rad especially since over 90% of our apparel sold in the states is made overseas- according to Consumerreports.org. Keep it in America when you can y'all.. it supports our workforce! Way to go AA.

Okay so AA has had controversy with claims that it doesn't support curvier women. Oh my freaking G.. at least they don't photoshop, at least they show girls of average weight and girls who are soft and feminine. AT LEAST they arn't like 99% of other retailers who only show rail thin (or rock hard) girls and photoshop every little mark, dimple, and bend. Could they do more? Sure.. but I'm happy to see a brand just being conscious of positive body image. Skinny, curvy, healthy. All are equally gorgeous. Cut them some slack and give em points for at minimum doing something and not turning the other cheek like their peers.

They have also had contraversy with claims from certain AA employees saying they were held to a specific beauty standard. Some stating they couldn't have chipped nail polish.. had to wear all AA while working.. that all hired had to be "attractive." To which, AA responded by pretty much saying they hire based on personal style and not beauty. Yanno.. I believe that. In retail, personal style is a legit thing to consider when hiring someone. And as for having to wear all AA while working.. uhh why would any brand want their employees wearing something that doesn't identify with the brand they were hired to represent? And for chipped nail polish and things like that.. omg who cares? It was in the contract they signed upon accepting the job and they SELL nail polish so ya gotta represent that when you're on the floor. Every company has something based on appearance whether we like it or not.. which is why we rarely see a heart surgeon with blue hair.. an overweight fitness instructor.. a girl in 6 inch heels working at Foot Locker.. yadida? Nothing wrong with any of the that but companies will forever ask a certain expectation of their employees. Oh and go look at AA's instagram (@AmericanApparelUSA) and you can bet your fine ass that AA celebrates their employees based on their style and you won't read a thing about their physical appearance. Ex: Check out Lisa's skirt!.. not "Check out Lisa's legs!" In fact, I see a lot of variety in the beauty they display and I like that. Yes there could always be more but they're still better than most other brands.

So many basics available. It's their specialization. Wholesale offers over 100 colors.. wonder what retail offers! You can always count on having choices.

Leotards.. leg warmers.. a constant year round celebration. Yes! Going out in a leotard under a flowy skirt. Loungin in boxers and a tank with your leg warmers on. Two looks I 100% dig.

Oversized sweaters. Grandma sweaters. Slinky sweaters. Thank youuuuu.

They are a big endorser of the bold red lip- which, may I argue, is the biggest contribution in history that makeup has given to the fashion world. It's literally an outfit accessory.. on your face.

Sure, AA can be racy as hell.. but they also show another side using minimalism with their basics that show very little skin. And they prove it can be just as sexy as its' polar opposite.

Their ads are soooo honest. I mean look at this ad- some might argue seeing a "flaw" or two.. and while most companies would photoshop this to advertising perfection.. AA keeps it real. This makes me trust the brand. What you see is what you get. Holla.

Freakin hip hip hurray for natural faces here and there. So refreshing.

The colors they pair together always blend so well. Plus, a lot of their creatives on the team were said to be hired based on their taste, vision, and proven talent- putting less value on their resume.

Thank you GOD (literally) for a popular brand that is not entirely white washed. Variety is so much more intriguing and real.

They are transparent with their work ethics in the manufactoring process. Everything is made in a factory in Los Angeles and workers make on average $12/hour with many of them receiving medical benefits for themselves and their families. They also work under the same roof as creatives, IT, administrative, and finance employees.. among others.. trying to establish a collaboration from all levels and aspects of the brand.

Forget the computer generated images we are used to seeing.. AA typically shoots in realistic locations with backgrounds we can relate to. A school classroom.. a messy bed.. in front of a pretty garden.. in a subway.. standing in an everyday kitchen..

Raw beauty. An appreciated tactic for selling clothing.

Gals in action! Lovin that AA celebrates an active and in the moment lifestyle.

TIGHTS galore. <3333333333

Majority of their models are found walking down the street in a typical going-about-your-day fashion. Some are their own AA employees. Some are from those who had sent in their own images to be considered. Pretty cool that they'd rather use everyday people to represent their brands than employ modeling agencies who would have just selected from a specific pool of people.

Say yes to tan lines!

Call them controversial (they are.) They arn't perfect (who is?). They have a ways to go (who doesn't?) But they're doing something different by using an honest advertising platform, showcasing variety in true life beauty, and keeping everything sweatshop free and made in America (who else is doing all that?) Loves it.

Weddings. So fun to dress up and go to them.. who doesn't enjoy getting drunk and breaking out their nerdy dance moves in a room full of love and celebration? *Le Sigh*.. we love them, but what to wear? Especially in the colder months when the fancy sun dresses aren't a first option.
Ummm.. maxi dresses. Duh bitches. But not the casual cotton kind. Ya gotta fancy it up.

Maxi dresses are elegant and completely appropriate for a wedding. Even strapless.
The biggest rules when it comes to dressing for a wedding are the following:
1.) Don't outshine the bride or the bridesmaids. 2.) Even if you don't.. just FORCE yourself to give a damn. Pull your look together and try to look nice. Out of politeness. 3.) Go for elegant, lovely, romantic. This ain't the time for sexy. Obvs you want to look good and done up, but you don't want to be making Mother's shield their son's eyes while breaking all the necks of the groom's party. Yadida? Sexy can be classy. But leave the sexy home. Go for charming.

If you go with the maxi- make sure it's not just a comfy, cotton kind of maxi. Choose a material that has more shine to it or more of a unique texture. Much more wedding appropriate. Accessorize with a skinny belt around your waist and a statement collar necklace.

Some more general rules for wedding attire: Play with colors. Don't wear white. Hot pink would be a no no.. but a fuchsia pink is A+. Think rich colors, not neon. Feel free to show your curves, but don't come out looking like your dress was painted on. Look your best, be fashionable.. DON'T try to steal the show by wearing something so out there or magnificent that your dress/outfit gets more compliments or looks than the brides. It's her day.

All in all.. I would say that weddings is the one time you shouldn't dress solely for yourself. Do it up, personalize it, but be courteous to the audience of grown ups, peers, and kids. And even though you're a hot bitch, let the bride have her day. Have fun feelin' gorgeous and toast to all that makes your heart beat!
Love ya bunnies! Have a wedding look you rocked so well? Hashtag #Yurkstylewedding and show me!
