The project and idea that we chose to reflect upon is based on Ceal Floyer’s installation – ladder, embedded with the concept of failure. As we talk about failure in our life, it is strongly associated with negative emotions such as shame and fear, which is why people sometimes try to either refuse or avoid. Yet if we take a step back and see it from a different approach, this is also an essential threshold for (re)discovering new ideas that completely substitutes its original meaning. The visual artist, Ceal Floyer, deliberately remove the rungs away and turns it into an minimalistic installation. Her style of artworks in the media is usually humorous and spots on the language and symbols in everyday life. Similarly, this dysfunctional ladder loses its functionality that people cannot use to reach a greater height, but rather leave it as an artwork to appreciate its metallic lustre and symmetrical construction.

In our discussion, the composition of the ladder inspire us to think about window-blinds that we use to receive and obstruct the daylight as well as protecting privacy. The direction of the blinds make a slight yet important impact as shown in the video. It connects the inside and outside, insuring security and shield the toilet in respect of privacy. We decide to remove the blinds to experiment a different visual effect, and it results in an exposure of privacy and incompleteness of entirety. In the video, we dissects the clip and tests through different aesthetic perception using a variety of filters, which surprisingly minimises the background and creates the beauty of simplicity. Also accidently, the cat sneaks through the gap that adds amusement to the whole production, echoing the idea of Ceal Floyer.

Box Experiment #2

For my second experiment I chose a brightly colored box. First, separate the all parts of it and cut it into pieces of paper of different lengths. Then I used glue put all small part in one paper. At last, I use these pieces of paper to spoil it into an irregular flower pattern.

Box Experiment #1

I cut a small part of box and then use the tinfoil wrapped around the entire box to increase its thickness. It make the surface of the box rough.

I collaborate with my classmate Cindy to take these pictures. The large scale installation by Kathatina Gross with so many colour theme. That colour scheme is horrendous! We were inspired by this artwork and decided to merge unobtrusively into the background, just like a chameleon. Because, the tented curtain hides a maze of waves. We also hide our arms and hands with the parts of the canvas and merge in the picture. Personally, I've never seen such a big scene and so many colors mixed in one artwork. Amazing artwork!

For assessment 2 I have focused on the question about bad girls? Because, this group make everyone impressed by them dare to criticize and against existing convention.

 My rebellious years started from high school, I seem to have their own overnight ideals and pursuits, have their own direction in life, with its own unique personality. And I believed that which is striking and beautiful is not always good. Because, that role is always the coolest and most special one. Bad girls image was always out of step with the other girls. The opposite of all the good girl is not ugliness and indifference, it’s amazing and special.

 Harley Quinn is antagonists in the movie. She represents cruel and barbarous instinct whit clown. Harley Quinn is both the design of characters, hair, clothes and make-up are innovative, unique style. As the color is the character of the first body image design, good color matching clothing is designed to achieve effective character image basis. Therefore, blue side means piquant and cool, and red side means flamboyant style and vivacious. Moreover, she was a mental-health professional before she is falling in love with a monster-Joker. Harley is obsessed with the Joker, who was responsible for her transformation. Her changed temperaments and image. As a result, Harley Quinn is good example for constructed binaries including different personality and appearance especially red & blue side.

 At first, I plan to use photoshop make poster, even I already cosplay Harley Quinn. But I think use own form of painting to show that character better than matting and image synthesis. For my final poster, I research two artisits Silvia Bachli and Laura Callaghan. Silvia make some smooth and natural line with cold tones which looks simple and beautiful. In the background, I added more colors in the fluid line and change the thickness of the lines. In addition, I combine with Laura’s painting style to crate own Harley Quinn from my cos photo. Moreover, adding more contrast around the woman's head will work as an attention seeker, and I also applied a white backlight-rim around her and on the closest tentacles to link them to the black background. Behind the Harley's head there are four different portraits are painted with background. The big heart symbol of Harley’s love for Joker. And the baseball bat means her will and resistance. The gun present violence and loss of control. Finally, the red rose symbol of passion and the blue rose symbol of miracle.

 Furthermore, my inspiration comes from my high school period, because that time I think all the bad girl are very cool. Initially planned to draw a bad girl and a good girl, and the contrast the tone with the depth of the color to reflect the constructed binaries. However, I just find a girl who is a self-contradictory character - Harley. Therefore, I decide focus on drawing one girl. In addition, most people are familiar with this role which help people understand contradictory binaries.

 The impact of society shapes the behavior of individuals. (1) The traditional view is that men and women are at least binary opposition, in my second assignment I think the contradictory binaries and individual are also coexisting, my assignment point out a good example. She creates a new personality which totally different with Original personality, her two personalities is opposite in the same carrier body, which leads to the related things are opposite. Therefore, it is unity in the world, but it is a unity formed by the combination of opposites. (2)
