Sometimes I think about how HYYH and Begins Youth are necessarily different due to being different mediums and one of those differences that I really enjoy and which makes Begins Youth actually worth making rather than being a meaningless reboot is the separation. Because Begins Youth is a kdrama, not only is the timeline different but it also makes sense to see the characters together more often. Nobody wants to watch a show where all the characters have completely separate plotlines and rarely interact. For HYYH the separation and isolation works, and it is possible due to the other mediums it employed like the personal diaries in The Notes novels. But that doesn't do well in a drama. Thus, in Begins Youth the feelings of isolation are still there, especially prevalent in Cein and Jeha's plotlines, but we get to see the characters cooperate and be there for each other in ways that didn't happen in HYYH. HYYH was making very important points when they did it the way they did, and Begins Youth keeps the line of tragedy, but there's something inherently more cathartic and positive about the way the Begins Youth boys are able to be there for each other at least some of the time, which really didn't happen in HYYH until a while after the timeskip because it was a whole lesson they all needed to learn as part of their progress. That's also the beauty of having a very long-running multi-media story and part of what makes HYYH unique- it could take its time making points and really burrowing into long-term character development with these deep-seeded issues. That said, the depth of characterization and emotion is much deeper in Begins Youth because it's a drama and we get to witness everything firsthand, conversations and all.
All that to say I don't have a favorite, I just really enjoy that we got both.

I love them so much actually..... I can't even tell you, how fucking much. They are the sweetest fucking pair.
The chemistry is insane too. It would be so fucking devastating if they just weren't paired up after this. Like I usually don't push for ships but god I need them to be one so fucking bad. Please please please!
There's too much talent in this for it to not work out...

I feel like we need to give Janine so much credit for being the one constant in both of Armin's lives, the only person he knew and trusted who was there to cry over him as he died, and who has been absolutely faithful and supportive of him regardless of which life he was living.

Thai BL dramas really need to stop trying to redeem the evil antagonist in the 11th hour.
Like no. I’ve spent the whole series watching this character do awful things—learning worse and worse stuff about them—and now, suddenly, we’re supposed to feel sorry for them because “they meant well” or “ they are family”? Miss me with that.
Redemption? In episode 11? When they're not even sorry for what they did. They just want people to see it from their point of view? Absolutely not.
This trend is getting out of hand lately, and I’m especially talking about that dill weed King in The Next Prince. 😂

What I love about Thada is that he thinks he's the domineering CEO from a novel but then Armin appears and it becomes clear that he's Armin's goofy, overly affectionate guard dog.
