this is the moment its introduced that hisoka has a partner in the exam. we have these two panels showing collaboration, and then in the immediate next panel, hisoka is spouting the gospel of friendship to gon.

it is left unclear wether he it talking about gon and leorio, or himself and illumi. to me, the intention was to imply both.

then, couple it with this later panel (at the end of the exam) where hisoka explicitly calls illumi, friend. sure he is threatening him 👀 but thats par for the course with them.

say what you will about how unhealthy their relationship may be 😅 but hisoka seems to firmly place illumi in the friend category

i’m not sure how to word this but like

illumi and killua with the phrase “no one is coming to save you”

illumi is taught this throughout his life, there is no escape, no bargaining, no other option. no one is coming to save you.

so he makes a point to drill this into killua. avoid danger at all costs because no one is coming to save you.

and yet, when killua is dying on the floor of some cave in the middle of nowhere, someone comes to save him. someone he was kind to who cares about him.

but even before that, killua saved himself by leaving which is something illumi could never do
