My fav genre of Pokemon are the ones that have pure hatred in their hearts. Hatterene will give you headaches if it doesn’t like your vibes. Tinkaton will use its hammer to knock rocks into the sky to kill innocent Corviknights. Buneary starts off with a friendship level of zero after you catch it. Iconic I fear.

One thing I'll always love about Pale is how much compassion it has for young people. Lucy, Verona and Avery represent the best parts of today's youth who keep pushing for feminism and LGBTQ acceptance and go to BLM and Fridays for Future protests. I see people like Greta Thunberg and my younger sibling in them and that made me root for them so hard throughout the story.

Like the girls awaken and they enter a world where conservatism is basically baked into the magic system. But they call bullshit on it and carve out their own little space with the Kennet project.

And the best part is their personal development. Some of the other WB serials can feel almost a bit mean spirited where their young protagonists lose so much of themselves in the process of growing up. Compared to those, the Pale epilogues just hit differently. The girls grow up exactly how you would want them to and it feels so cathartic after 3.6 million words of getting invested in them.

It feels like the story is saying "You can become your best self and you can make a difference in the causes that matter to you." And I think for a generation that also struggles with doomerism that is incredibly valuable.
