🌹💀🖤 My brother and I have been through almost everything together. Growing up 2 years apart in age difference helped us maintain a bond not many ever get to have with their sibling(s). Growing up in the same broken home, the same screams, the same yelling, the same good, bad, and horrible memories. I always felt like a protector when it came to him. Trying to keep my mom away from him at an early age when we were maybe 7 or 8 years old. Once my dad left for good, my mom took out a lot of her frustration on us. My older brother is 3 years older than I am and 5 years older than Asa. Once he moved out/kicked out, it was only us two in the house. I honestly blacked out a lot of my life from age 11 until probably 18. But Asa was always there for me as I was for him. We moved to St. Croix to live with my dad and his then fiancé once our mom kicked us out the first time. We came back to graduate from our town with our friends. We got kicked out again. I only saw him during school my Senior year. We played on the same basketball team the last 2 years of my high school career. We have taken road trips all over. Had a lot of fights when we were younger. Talked about everything brothers and best friends can discuss. He is always there for me and that's the unbreakable bond we share. I got my first tattoo when I was 17. They've become my safe haven throughout my life. Asa always said he wouldn't get one until he knew it was the right one. You're never too old for your first tattoo. He surprised me with this one a week ago today on my birthday. He asked for a handwritten, More Soul Than Human. He said it was for an embroidery on a cap he was getting. I love this kid and to know his first tattoo is of my mantra in my handwriting, well, it was the best birthday gift I've ever received. Thank you, bro, for being who you are, for always being there for me, and always making sure the family is well and taken care of. If you don't have siblings you won't ever understand the unconditional pact that's made once you get old enough to appreciate all the bullshit you've gone through to still be living your dreams with them being there for you. 🌹💀🖤 "Maybe I should be more honest. I heard that can help with suffering and depression. I heard it can take your heart out and give your anxiety a rest. I see a lot of positive quotes out there these days. Everyone seems to be enlightened and a bona-fide spiritual healer, a goddamn reincarnated Buddha. I heard you have to take classes to be certified for self-help. I guess that makes sense having someone else teach you what it means to be yourself. I never understood it though. I'm not here for that sort of discovery by using someone else's life journey to clear out a path no one has had to walk but me. I should be more honest about the way you broke me down the center of my body. Walking around with half of who you were is symbolic I suppose. It makes others think you've been through it and they attach themselves to you in hopes of them learning something new or how to avoid self-abuse. I don't care to post on here anymore. My page died years ago. This has become more of an opened journal for those who wish to read what I have to say instead of a business I was attempting to build to get me to the life I wanted to live one day. It seems as though the more you say, the faster people move away from you and onto someone who only writes in quotes about what love is or what your purpose could be if you could only move on from your past. I get it. It's easier that way. No one is here for the scars or monstrous things we all keep hidden away hoping they never break their chains to come outside with us to play. Maybe I should be more honest and say I haven't thought about drinking a single day since you left me. It never crossed my mind even if your lies crossed out your heart in mine. I was your placeholder, a convenient pause in your life until the one you truly loved was ready for you to come to him. I don't care anymore about it, though I still give it space on these pages I write, because if I didn't, I wouldn't know how else to survive. I was never one to give out advice. I barely understood my own and why I wasn't any good at leaving ghosts alone. 🌹💀🖤 Thank you, @adria2589 for giving these words a home on your flesh. Incredibly humbled and thankful for you. It means more than you will ever know to me. You told me my words have saved you and helped you in your own journey. The feeling is mutual, because without you and those who read my work, I would just be someone who was wandering this world in search of something else to do with his life. What a tragedy that would've been. This mantra has been something I began in 2014. Over that time, I found sobriety, meaning, purpose, and a reignited passion for writing. I found new life, new reason for being here, along with a love that's no longer here, but it gave me a muse. I can only hope those who read my words, find something useful and helpful, maybe even comforting to help them in their own lives. These 4 words symbolize everything I am and everything I will be.
