This woman seems to be in her 60s. She seems to be very proud and happy because of how much the mint leaves have grown. This is shown by how big her smile is. The weather seems to be cold since she is wearing a knitted hat that is white with an orange and purple horizontal stripe on it. She is wearing a blue winter coat with a white section on the forearms. There are white containers in the background that seem to be filled with something which maybe related to gardening. The mint leaves in the foreground of the picture makes you think if the woman gardens.

The young girl seems to be anxious as she looks through the fence. She is wearing glasses that have a clear frame. She has ombre hair going from a dark brown to a reddish golden color at the ends and black nails. The light that is falling on her face is seems to be warm. There seems to be building in the distance and a white object with a blue horizontal line through it on the left of her.

I decided to photograph my sister. I chose her since she is someone that would be available if I needed to take photo’s and since she was offering to help me with this assignment. I chose a wooded area since she likes walking on the trails. I told her to reach out to grab the pumpkin that we brought as a prop. I went with a white pumpkin since it would stand out when placed on the ground. I didn’t want a orange one since an orange pumpkin is used a lot in photos so I wanted it to be different.

The two most emphasized formal elements are line and texture. The vertical trees on either side frame the fallen tree in the middle. The fallen tree fell into another tree that is split into a V shape. The texture’s of the trees are rough and have a bark texture. The fallen tree has a somewhat smooth feel because of the mushrooms growing on it. The ground is a rough gravel texture and the leaves have a smooth texture. The location of this photo was Four Lakes in Lisle.

Picture this standing on top of a bridge looking down at a stream winding through bushes down through the flat stacked rocks that take up majority of the image. Which creates a sense of depth. The rocks that seemed to have been placed there on purpose so that the flow of the water can be controlled by the flat rocks. Which ended up making a small waterfall in the center of the image. There is foliage surrounding the flat rocks and the winding stream. The location of this photo is Lisle Park District.

In this assignment we had to take landscape photos in three different locations. My locations were Lisle Park District, Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, and Four Lakes in Lisle. In this image this was Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve. I chose these locations since I knew that there would be water to reflect the trees around it. I took the photo at around 2:00pm. The weather was quite clear out and the lighting wasn’t too bright but the image had shadows because of the trees covering the area which gave it texture.

What I did to make my object creative was to take the photo at a lower angle rather than one that was either higher or same height. What I learned was object placement and how to make the skateboard abstract. By only putting part of the skateboard on the table helped the colors on the board pop out more, which made it not look contrived.

In this assignment it was to take an object and take photos and describe the formal elements that stand out. The color of the skateboard which is a vibrant fuchsia color with black streaks in the middle which is very eye catching. If you couldn’t tell the board was resting above water that caused a reflection of the board which made it an interesting background.

“Takako Isayama”, 1972 By W. Eugene Smith
I think the title is the name of the person holding a child. The photo is trying to capture the sadness the mother is having from seeing her child suffer from mercury poisoning in Minamata Japan.

I added the wood to add a more 3D look to the image of the sewer. I learned that the depth and angles of an image matters a lot more to make an image more creative.

The assignment given was to make the everyday object in this case a sewer look more creative. When I was doing the assignment I thought of different objects to put by it to make it look more interesting. After all this thought about how to make an everyday object that usually I wouldn’t pay attention to more creative. I realize that with effort any everyday object could make a more creative image.

Bad Photo. The background was not best for the photo. The lighting could have been better.
