There is something about Under the Whispering Door and The House on the Cerulean Sea that make me keep coming back to them.
I thought about it and I came to this conclusion - they make me feel a sort of soul deep HUNGER. A hunger for the kind of love that is described there - both the romantic & platonic. A love that accepts a person even when they walk in darkness - that sort of love. A love thats says "so you have your dark thoughts/feelings - that's OK.. by all means have them.. as long as you don't push me away. I will be right beside you as you walk your long dark road - that's all I want". I just... it makes a person feel so SEEN.

âIn a 1994 Harvard study that examined people who had radically changed their lives, for instance, researchers found that some people had remade their habits after a personal tragedy, such as a divorce or a life-threatening illness. Others changed after they saw a friend go through something awful, the same way that Dungyâs players watched him struggle.
Just as frequently, however, there was no tragedy that preceded peopleâs transformations. Rather, they changed because they were embedded in social groups that made change easier. One woman said her entire life shifted when she signed up for a psychology class and met a wonderful group. âIt opened a Pandoraâs box,â the woman told researchers. âI could not tolerate the status quo any longer. I had changed in my core.â Another man said that he found new friends among whom he could practice being gregarious. âWhen I do make the effort to overcome my shyness, I feel that it is not really me acting, that itâs someone else,â he said. But by practicing with his new group, it stopped feeling like acting. He started to believe he wasnât shy, and then, eventually, he wasnât anymore. When people join groups where change seems possible, the potential for that change to occur becomes more real. For most people who overhaul their lives, there are no seminal moments or life-altering disasters. There are simply communitiesâ¤sometimes of just one other personâ¤who make change believable.
One woman told researchers her life transformed after a day spent cleaning toiletsâ¤and after weeks of discussing with the rest of the cleaning crew whether she should leave her husband.
âChange occurs among other people,â one of the psychologists involved in the study, Todd Heatherton, told me. âIt seems real when we can see it in other peopleâs eyes.â
The precise mechanisms of belief are little understood. No one is certain why a group encountered in a psychology class can convince a woman that everything is different, or why Dungyâs team came together after their coachâs son passed away. Plenty of people talk to friends about unhappy marriages and never leave their spouse; lots of teams watch their coaches experience adversity and never gel.Â
But we do know that for habits to permanently change, people must believe that change is feasible. The same process that makes AA so effectiveâ¤the power of a group to teach individuals how to believeâ¤happens whenever people come together to help one another change. Belief is easier when it occurs within a community.â

Israel blows up Gaza's "Palace of Justice" compound which housed the Palestinian Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the Court of First Instance & the Magistrate. 100,000s of vital case documents are gone. Deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure is a War Crime!

Israel's soldiers took victory images inside the Palestinian Supreme Court before blowing it up into pieces. This proves the facility constituted ZERO danger to the Israeli military & no militants were hiding inside it at the time it was destroyed. Again, a war crime!

GLOBAL STRIKE TOMORROW DEC 11. This is a call from Palestinian voices. As they have been saying, yes this is short notice, but they had zero notice. We are at a dire and urgent precipice.
Do not allow business as usual.
Disrupt global economic, political, and social systems.
This can manifest as:
Not buying anything.
Not going into work.
Not going to classes.
Protesting, posting, sharing.
This is just one of many to come.

The best piece of advice I ever got was not meant as advice, but as an edict. If I was going to threaten people as a joke, it had to be so far out of proportion with what happened that it would be obvious I was joking. This changed how I expressed frustration with others. It then changed how I expressed frustration with myself.
Not âIâm going to hit youâ but âI am going to buy a tuna sub from the gas station and hide it under the seat of your carâ
Not âIâm going to kill myselfâ but âI am going to walk into the desert and let the scarabs take meâ
The other side then happened. When I mess something up, instead of saying itâs bad and perpetuating negative thoughts, swing hard the other way.
Not âthis art is terribleâ but âthis shall be framed and mounted on the wall in my museum exhibition as testament to the suffering I had to overcomeâ
Have been doing this since high school. It was my drama teacher who asked me to please stop scaring the actors. The other half of the edict was that I had to say it in a polite tone, and end it with either please or thank you.
Life changing. 10/10 Mr MuĂŤller. Highly reccomend.

please donate to get e-sims to gazans
gazans donât just need these e-sims to contact the world. they need them to contact other people during their worst and loneliest hours.
i canât even imagine how it must feel, to be so afraid and alone. to just need someone to talk to.
we often call friends and family to talk to when just weâre having a bad day. and this⌠these people are living day by day, unsure about the next hour, surrounded by screams, bombs, artillery and rubble.
gazans need to connect now more than ever. not just to tell their stories, but to connect to other humans. to feel a semblance of normalcy in the devastation around them. to have some sort of comfort amidst all the destruction. to be able to contact their family members and make sure theyâre okay. to hear their voices. to keep their hopes and spirit alive.
please please donate. please help connect gaza. please reach out and let them know youâre there.
please keep talking about them. keep posting. keep protesting. keep connecting with them, and connecting them with the rest of the world. donât let anyone forget whatâs been happening to them for even a second. the world has spent almost a century in ignorance and silence, but not anymore!
donât let their oppressors isolate them. israel is trying their best to break their spirit. donât let them. we must stand with the palestinians and let them know weâre with them until the very end.
the palestinian cause is our cause. their fight is our fight.
remind them that theyâre not alone. donât you dare give up. not when theyâre still fighting. and even if they stop.
donât stop until palestine is free.

bisan has just posted a video that israel has lit up the sky, signalling they will bomb tonight, and that she has nowhere to go. she is in khan yunis--the south, where she was told to go to.
you can hear planes overhead as she speaks.
she wants israel to finally admit the truth--they do not want palestinians to go to "safe" parts of gaza, they want people to leave entirely and recreate the 1948 nakba.
please spread the word, please keep bisan in your thoughts, and do not let this happen in silence.

Some of you are so talented it makes me envious of your writing skills.
Have I maybe slipped into a blip of sub space from reading fanfic? Yes
From scenes Iâm literally not in but can somehow still experience? Also yes
Does this also make me feel some of the worst most anxious level of angsty misunderstanding scenes as well? Yup
Zero complaints, 5/5 stars highly recommend
