Chapter 9: bound in white

And now it's flashback time!

Time slid by, all too slowly and yet much too quickly all at once for Zim. He watched the planet below and waited…looking for a moment of weakness, an opportunity to strike, for some brilliant idea to hit him. When he wasn't watching, he tinkered with weapons and tried putting GIR back together. Progress had been made on the robot, but…he needed to work on him slowly, carefully, ensuring everything went exactly where it needed to go.

For him, though, the patience needed for such a careful task was in shorter and shorter supply. Especially for the dirt planet they orbited…oh, how one good shove could send it all into the sun, no longer a problem!

But that wasn't an option. Dib wouldn't stand for it. That, and it'd be like admitting defeat…like he couldn't wrestle a planet into submission for the Empire. And he could! He'd done it once, and he'd do it again!

It wasn't all stewing in various degrees of annoyance and frustration, though. Having Dib nearby made things…more tolerable, at least.

Though it was only a few days since they'd escaped to the space station, they'd already settled in a sort of routine. They would wake up, Dib eating a protein ration and taking a few swigs of vitamin water, often offering little tidbits to Zim. Zim would go to the main control room, and Dib would usually follow not long after.

Once Zim grew bored or frustrated enough, he'd personally check their weapons, often asking Dib to fetch or pass over materials or tools. By mid ‘day', Dib would eat another ration for lunch, and Zim would be inclined to nibble on some of his own, more sugary rations. Periodically, they'd tinker with GIR, either together or separately, Zim occasionally bouncing scheme ideas off of Dib…

And it would all usually end with the two of them sitting in the control room, Dib watching in fascination as the Earth shadowed the sun…a sunset unlike any other. After that, it was another quick, simple meal of rations, followed by Dib freshening himself up and going to bed.

Zim would curl next to him, but he didn't sleep. Oh, he relaxed, feeling comfortable around his human, but his mind still raced with ideas, plotting out steps of many a magnificent plan…

And he was regularly kept busy stroking Dib's hair and massaging his shoulders as he slept. Things he enjoyed doing, of course, but they suddenly seemed more necessary. Ever since his…major setback, Dib's sleep (when he was around, at least) was fitful.

Well…Dib wasn't exactly a peaceful sleeper. Hadn't been in years. Always shifting in his sleep, rolling into Zim's touch, taking a while to actually nod off in the first place. It'd grown worse over the years, but nothing a bit of medicine didn't help with.

Hello! I come here to say that I'm working on an Invader Zim comic. It will be an alternative universe inspired by the anime Dan da dan, adapting some things to be as faithful as possible to both series and be able to enjoy it! It will be called "Zim zi Zim", there will be Zadr, since both will be inspired by the protagonists and I will upload it little by little here, on IG and on all my social networks (probably first on IG) I hope someone can enjoy it! (here some sketches)

I emphasize in case it is necessary that this is NOT a tracing. It is not a copy. I used that reference photo as part of the trend, trying on purpose to be as faithful to the image as possible, but everything from the sketch to the coloring is done by my own hand. I spent three days with this haha
