EVALUATION:
This module had been really confusing to me from the start; from why it’s even a module and why we need to do it, in terms of what we gain out of it etc. I don’t feel like I’ve done very well on this module, although it was quite creative compared to the rest of the modules. My anxiety and other personal reasons have taken over, especially when it comes near the end of the module.  I felt like it was nice that this module was about presenting your identity and having the chance to show that to other people.
The first event that consisted of three days, was quite nerve wrecking for me as I thought it would really boring and very unnecessary. However, on the first day and especially at the start it was a little boring, but later when we got into groups it was a little more fun as we were from different courses and people were able to share and use skills they’ve gained from being in a specific course. The lecturer from Game Art, was absolutely amazing when delivering to us what we had to do. Working in a group with people I didn’t know was not as bad and I felt quite comfortable by the time we had given everyone a role in our group. Thinking about the Art School 2030, the group that I was in, had planned about what we want the future school to look like, considering shapes, colour, texture, interior, this had boosted our creativity and made us quite ambitious. Therefore, we had spent the first day gathering ideas and inspirations, making lists and drawing for the school. One of the things that were required for us to do is a manifesto… all the groups had struggled with this bit, or just weren’t able to get their head around it. On the second day of the first event, I wasn’t in due to being sick, however the group in game art, had thought of creating memes, representing the manifestos. The third day was spent by making/ digitally creating the way we want our school to look like. Moodboards for inspirations were created and finalized, by the end of the time that we had the deadline, we had made sure that all our work was presented digitally on screens. Most people that came in, had enjoyed our manifesto of memes.
In the programme, I had enjoyed the fact it was based around fashion collaborating with different industries of music, art and film. I t really got you thinking and it meant that this time in programme can really be fun when given a chance to do something around these topics. The skills learn to size the moodboards and really thinking about what you’re like as a person, when reminding yourself of your personal fashion and music sense/ style. As peers in the programme, we got to learn about each others taste and got to do fun activities when creating moodboards including a sound track, being presented the group has to guess which individual from the FMM course they think it is. Before the actual dates near the second event, as a group we were giving ideas on how we want our course to be represented during the event etc. People were coming up with a way they could switch part of our classroom to a party etc. The actual way we also were representing ourselves, was through a video consisting everyone’s five moodboards and a sound track that goes with it.. Problems that I have had during the ‘in programme’ time, was that I wasn’t familiar with the ease that came with this module. Which was a problem for me, because it made me really nervous, anxious and stressed, as I thought this is too easy or too little work to be enough/ handed for a whole 20 credit module.
For the second event, I feel quite depressed about as I wasn’t able to attend or feel I was part of.  One of the reasons I wasn’t actually able to come in was due to the first day of Ramadan and how I felt really nauseous to come in and perform my best. The other reason would be that it seems that I have been having trouble with receiving notifications from classroom, where a lot of alerts about this module would be posted to make sure we had completed task etc. For some reason I wasn’t able to receive any, when I usually would. I feel really upset that I wasn’t able to really engage with my peers during the planning for the second event and all the fun and creativity that goes into the plans and ideas. I had also wanted to be part of presenting our course to the others and showing how creative we are as a group. Which is a shame as it would’ve been a nice end to this module! As I don’t have a lot to ay about the second event, since I wasn’t able to attend it due to technical faults and being genuinely ill, I will be evaluating overall. The twenty-credit module is really creative and a lot of thoughts and efforts go into it. It will be confusing for others like the new people that will come in this year in September, just like it was for us. One thing I would suggest to happen and make sure it is done is that it is advertised/ presented to the students as a fun and creative module, giving them the idea that it is a great and an exciting way to finish off the year. Many people from my course had complained that there were people including some staff slacking and not really putting a lot of effort into caring about the work produced by the students, maybe for the future of this module, there should be at least another member of staff that is supervising the main staff delivering the module.

IN PROGRAMME:
The process & 5 Mood Boards-
Tumblr media
This is the first of moodboard, which only includes my name, but in both european letters and arabic letters. Which tells a little about me since you’d know that I’m Arab through my name written in Arabic.
Tumblr media
First of all, I had chosen an image of cherry blossoms on a tree to be as my main background. This is meaningful to me and means something to me, because it represents one of the meanings behind my name “Fragrant flowering tree”. Cherry blossoms have always been something that I love the smell of, especially when it’s around spring and summer. I had created a blank canvas that’s sized A4 and had then placed the background image on it. I made sure to press and hold the shift key whilst sizing the image over the canvas, in order for it to not stretch. Next, I have chosen a quote that means something to me “Do for this life as if you live forever, do for the afterlife as if you die tomorrow.” This quote is something that I would always try to live by, however it could be a bit difficult since I have anxiety and it can affect my daily day to day life.
Tumblr media
The second moodboard I created, I wanted to include three symbols/ images of things that I love doing or again something that means special to me. I was thinking of using a different background for the second moodboard, this is where I’ve tried to use the sample tool and sample two colours from the blossom tree image. I sampled the pink and blue and tried to faintly with a low opacity, paint them on the blank canvas. I then applied three symbols that represent me and what I like/ enjoy to do. However, as you can see above, I’m not really that into it, in terms of it being the only odd moodboard out of the rest.
Tumblr media
I decided to stick with the original background that I have picked and added the three things that represents me and my activities. The first one which is on the top left of the moodboard, is the black shutter which represents photography. I love photography and capturing images that I’m passionate about such as fashion. The second and third thing I’ve included is an outline of a book and a magnifying glass. This means that I love reading and researching/ looking into things especially when it comes to history of civilisations. Which has become a recent activity/ hobby of mine.
Tumblr media
The fourth moodboard, I included a colour palette that I love, which represents the colours I love to dress in or use as makeup. Nude colours from pink tones and greys is a contrast that I love, because I feel like they compliment my skin nicely and well. It also has an affect on my mood, where it seems a colour or tones that calm me down and make me think of great memories I’ve made!
Tumblr media
The last moodboard is ended with another quote which I also love... “Be like the flower that gives its fragrance, even to the hand that crushes it.” This is because, it has the relevance not only to the meaning of my name, but the background image that I’ve decided to use. It also seems like it is telling you to be nice to somebody, even though they might not be to you. I think that is also another quote that I would love to live by!
The Final Mood Boards-

Chosen Sound Track:

Tumblr media
The sound track that I chose to go with my moodboards, is a short “Piano Karaoke Demo” of the song “This is What You Came For” sang by Rihanna. This was because I love the way it is played with the piano and it makes me feel calm as well as it goes with the moodboards very well, in terms of the calmness of the background and the font of the text. I had converted the You Tube video into an MP3 file, in order for it to be used in the video put together for the second event and representing the course.
Fashion X Art-
(http://blog.bridgemanimages.com/fashion-designers-inspired-art/)
Tumblr media
For fashion and art to collaborate through clothing, we might see it on runways or in stores, but not really think about it or almost notice that there has been a collaboration between the two. One of the fashion designer brands like (Gianni) Versace has actually used the iconic Marilyn Monroe Pop Art painting by the famous artist Andy Warhol (right). This is where the fashion brand Versace have used the pop art print versions to be printed on the “Cat Suit” (left). The silk Cat suit was from the 1991 Spring collection, where the rest of the collection also had inspiration from ancient Greek and African tribal art. He had also taken a look back at his Italian roots- where there’s the religious art work by Botticelli. This is something I wouldn’t of expected as from Versace to do as a fashion and art combined, especially for high-end expensive brands like Versace. I would probably expect brands or stores like H&M or Primark to have prints on a t-shirt or a top having pop art prints of Marilyn Monroe printed on it. However, it is something interesting, but I can’t really imagine anybody wearing this today unless they’re literally able to rock anything... maybe Beyonce´?
Fashion X Film-
(https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/06/clueless-clothes)
Tumblr media
The film and fashion crossover is really familiar when it comes to film/ movies. Through films we are always able to take fashion inspiration from different characters in it. Whether it is a villain’s outfit or style, or the style of the main lead. We are always looking at something different designed and clothed onto people. Choosing clueless, was one of the films that a lot of people have taken inspiration from and some probably still will do that today. The film is about a female student who is facile, wealthy and quite successful when it comes to socialising. Through this character and other characters close to the main one, we see the style of clothing that was worn and presented at a time like 1995. The clothing from the film and the most iconic and famous yellow plaid suit and skirt with white high knee socks. Something I didn’t know about this was that Dolce & Gabbana “did the suit”. Which is a positive point for D&G, because this design was/ is an absolute success in the fashion world. Here are some other clothing that eould also used as inspiration in our world today- seen as aesthetic.
Tumblr media
The high-knee socks is one of the cutest looks that are seen to be used in fashion today. However, it really depends on where this person lives to be able to wear high-knee socks with a skirt. It might be too cold for the location they live in. Talking about this specific outfit, I love the contrast of the silver space shoes with the grey skirt, white shirt and black blazer. It really gives us the vibe of the 90′s and the way clothing is styled around that time/ era. Including the hairstyle and how natural it looks in this image above as well as the one below, where you are able to see the split ends, when the sun is shining.
Tumblr media
This is probably one of my favourite styles in the film- the red sleeveless sweater. With the white shirt worn underneath. It is definitely a style we don’t see often today, but actually it is an amazing look that could be worn for spring or autumn. This is something I could imagine university students wearing, when studying fashion or more academic courses. For example, one reason I can’t imagine someone in our course wearing this, is because our course is either us sitting down and doing work on computers for long hours or being really practical with photoshoots. Which wouldn’t be exactly comfortable for a photoshoot, as you would want to move and stretch a lot when squatting down or leaning over to get a perfect shot.
Fashion X Music-
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-zpOMYRi0w)
Tumblr media
Fashion and music is probably the biggest one out of them all! Music is something that a lot people cannot live without and we also know of the fans and their base that support their idols... even if it is watching their music videos through You Tube. What an idol wears in a music video can relate to the concept that they’re coming back in and portraying it through clothing, hair, makeup which could be expressing not only their personality or style, but the actual lyrics itself.
Tumblr media
In this fashion X music post, I’ve chosen kind of link it to the last post of fashion x film. This is a music video from Iggy Azalea’s song ‘Fancy’, where the clothing as well as the location chosen is all an inspiration from the movie clueless. The yellow plaid suit and skirt, the hair, make up, classroom set up and more. At the time that it was released in 2014, a lot of people were familiar with the moving image they were seeing, clothing and styling. Therefore, fashion and music especially today is very affective- in addition to having social media, people are able to share their style through the music they make.
Tumblr media
Above is also a screenshot from the music video, where this is also an iconic scene in the film of clueless. Acted by Iggy in her music video, by wearing almost “matching gym wear”. Overall, to sum it up for this post, I feel like music x fashion and fashion x film, are the two affective ways of presenting something new in fashion and styling, especially when using celebrities with a lot of fans or celebrities who are very well known and famous in their profession of music or film!
Moodboard of Fashion X Art-
Tumblr media
For this week’s fashion x art, I have created a moodpboard relating to my kind of style through fashion and art. All these images are from Pinterest and the fashion images show the modest kind of clothing, where they’re a little oversized, using patterns or colours that are used a lot in the Arabian culture Karslan Iqbal the designer of the three images in the top middle of the moodboard has created beautiful modest designs using satin to create the outcome and it is beautiful, I wouldn’t say I wear sating clothing, but the design of the outfit kind of portrays my idea and style of not wearing skinny clothing, as I don’t feel comfortable and my blood circulation feels weird after a white especially if too tight. I love to layer clothing sometimes and it makes me feel comfortable, as you can see it doesn’t have to be thick layers, but as simple as wearing a t-shirt or a top and putting a slightly oversized or long cardigan on top with slightly loose trousers matched with trainers. The art work is from pinterest under the title of “Iraqi artwork”, I have chosen these  four paintings in order to portray that I love dressing in the way I’m used to dress through my culture’s traditional expectation, but still being able to put my own twist to it interns of choosing to mix and match clothing items with colours too. I feel like in general as well as you can see from the paintings that Arabian culture is really colourful, as well as being able to see that the three paintings where there’s females in them, and you can see the oversized clothing they’re wearing. This is in order to avoid making your body parts/ features stand out. I personally love that because it feels like you’re free from people staring at you, especially if you didn’t want that and you dressed for yourself etc. The artwork are is from acrylic and oil paintings and I love it because something about when I look at it, soothes my mind and getting lost in the soft blended colour and lines. I’ve also decided to add cultural related paintings, because I feel like I love to engage with my culture and somehow represent and show that I have it in my style, because again I love engaging with it as I see it beautiful and free.
Moodboard of Fashion X Music-
Tumblr media
This is a moodboard inspired by my style and the way I love to dress in terms of clothing, colour, shoe or even makeup. The moodboard shows the kind of bottoms/ trousers I like wearing, I like them being slightly bigger as I feel really comfortable when wearing slight oversized trouser, especially when they’re not denim. As for the footwear I like wearing are trainers or shoes that are comfortable especially when walking, that’s why I’ve included an image of the Adidas Los Angeles black trainers, as they’re great in comfort. My hijab, usually is either a pale/nude pink, black or grey. As I like this specific colour palette and I feel like it compliments my skin tone very well. My makeup, I try to make as natural as possible or kind of blending naturally with warm tones, which is why I’ve included the eye makeup image, as sometime I also love including eyeliner with eye makeup sometime if I feel it needs a bit of depth. Finally, the lipstick I love wearing are nude tones again brown, pink and sometime cherry red again if needing depth to my look. As for the song that I would put with this, it would be the short “Piano Karaoke Demo” of the song “This is What You Came For” sang by Rihanna. As I feel like it goes with the flow of the style, especially when walking and listening to the song wearing comfortable clothing. Really nice when you can also feel the breeze hitting against you!

EVENT 1:
Day 1-
Tumblr media
The first day of the first event, we had gone through as a group what we wanted to do. In the group that I was in, we had decided that it’s a good idea to be combine the art school, manifesto and artefact into one project! We had planned that we wanted our manifesto to be displayed in a creative way outside the building of the school/ university. As we wanted to try and be as creative as we can, thinking outside the box, I had suggested and the group thought it is a great idea to make the art school/ university the tallest building in plymouth, we originally researched and one of the group members had said we could make it twenty floors. The current tallest building in plymouth is the “Beckley Court”, with 23 floors, 78 meters high. Therefore, we could make it 100 meters high, with 20 floors (including reception, each floor being 5 meters high, the twentieth floor being a rooftop garden for meditation/ relieving stress or hanging out at break.
Tumblr media
Here are some of the notes, ideas and doodles of our ideas and it was quite useful to do. One of our group members had worked with the main member of staff on mental health and were discussing things or ways the art school/ university could provide for students to help them with relieving their stress, anxiety etc. One of the things they came up with was a “Chill Pod” this was an idea of very comfortable chair being inside a chill pod shape, where a student could go in and sit down, scanning their card and choosing the time they are wanting to be relaxing and relieving stress. It allows you through a touch screen to choose the scenery through VR, music through headphones to be able to make you feel like you're in a comfortable atmosphere. Another thing was the mind maps of our ideas of an art school/ university, making lists and checklists of things we would like to include in our designs, like students’ work to be represented and seen inside the building, by the public and people being outside etc.
Tumblr media
We wanted to create our manifesto in order to represent creativity, representing art etc. We figured using memes is the best way as in this generation and surely future generation are familiar with the memes used on social media, where they are usually funny, yet relatable and understood. This will also represent and show that in this art school we are quite “chill” and laid back in the way our students express themselves, but obviously not with disrespect or in a way that may offend any community, race or culture!
Day 2-
Tumblr media
The second day of the first event, we started actually designing what we want our school to look like, the facilities we wanted to have  through mood boards that inspire our visuals of the future art school/ university (2030). The first design is created by one of the members as he was able to design through a software he’s skilled in. This is what this one member had in minds. However, when we talked about wanting to have the art school/ university as the tallest building in plymouth, below was the second design.
Tumblr media
This design of the art school/ university, is designed as a cylinder, where it has a dome at the top, a cone as the entrance, six spheres on the building that represent our manifesto, in addition to the other two spheres on each side of the cylinder building which happen to be made out of glass elevators. Somewhat, we still were trying to figure out something, like a design that really is different and not really seen in plymouth before in terms of shape.
Tumblr media
I came up with a design in my head, where I wanted the building to be built with eight edges as an octagon, being 100 meters high. The outside to be seen as glass embedded within the building and structure of it. I went on powerpoint and decided to design the university from the outside and being only a front and two sides of the design showing. As you can see from the image above of the design, I have drawn lines that show the edge of the octagon shape. The circles on the building represent the windows that will be within the building. I have also included the door, where I tried to draw it as the round automatic sliding door. I have also included a normal glass door with a button that could be pressed to be used for people with a wheel chair etc. I had showed the members this design and they thought it was great and then one had still suggested to include the two sphere ceramic/ glass elevators on two of the edges of the building, where the reception lies in between. Lastly, I had included the name of the art school/ university (PlymouthA Art University) as well as the “Reception”. As we had originally planned that we wanted our manifesto to be represented on the building, in a way that people and the public who pass by walking or driving, to see the 8 ways that the art school goes by, I have included it on the side of the design where it shows that the first and front edge reads (from middle, then right edge, going around back to the front edge) Plymouth Art University, Success, Diversity, Creativity, Community, Ambition, Inspiration and Respect. The reason for this words to be represented as our manifesto, is because in the art university, we want to se our students’ success, inspiration, ambition and creativity! Especially when it comes to an art department where a lot of courses are offered, we would like to appreciate and support the students’ thought and ideas to reach their goals through their creativity. The respect, community and diversity, is to show that we support, welcome and respect the students and people that are different from others through their race, community and culture!
Tumblr media
The inspiration of the building mainly came from the octagonal building in Florentine Romanesque, Italy which is a Baptistery (1128). I loved the way it looked and it was so inspirational. However, when I kept thinking it would be better to try and think of a way as if it would be built for a university, I tried to think of more modern design and materials used  as part of the building. I mainly got that idea, when I actually found an image of the Baptistery at night, the lights around the building looked really calming and cool. So, I started to look at glass building as well as windows. I found a few building that I liked so I included them in my mood board. I imagined how if the building had tall glass windows on all edges, the work of the students could be represented on all seven edges including the front edge. It would look great to promote our students’ creativity through the different courses we would have. I began to also look at gardens that are designed for rooftops, which I have included in my moodpboard and you can see that it looks very calming, especially for students that suffer from mental health issues, who need time out etc. The rooftop garden will actually be closed with the windows on all edges (for safety), except the top which can be opened, that you can also see an image of being in the bottom line, the second image of the mood board!
Day 3-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the third day, we had digitally displayed the designs of our future 2030 art school/ university. In our slide, we had included all our designs that we thought of and produced ourselves. Our manifestos that we had created were all displayed on the screen and here are a few that people made. Most people who came in to see what we have to represent from the three day event, had enjoyed the memes and for the people who didn’t know what memes were (a bit older in age), had also enjoyed them once it was explained how they work and the purpose of them! Finally, I have really enjoyed these three days, because it gave me the chance to try some new thoughts and work and share ideas with students in my group who were from different courses. It was useful,, because each of the members had a role that they were able to participate in and get the work done, in terms of designing, facility ideas, interior etc. I am now looking forward to what we will be doing next after this great three day event!
