Regarding RP ‘Accuracy’

I’ve encountered this a lot, lately as well as throughout my time RPing. It’s worth making note on, all the same. I’d be willing to bet that we all have encountered something in our time RPing that we personally know a lot about but the other person RPing said thing does not.

That’s okay!

In RP, we are allowed to step into roles we do not normally get to engage in. We get to experience lives often times distant from our own. We can play magic users, doctors, military captains, super assassins, evil masterminds, really anything that we want. And that’s what makes it fun!

But being it IC does not make us experts OOC, thus it’s important we understand concessions will be made from time to time!

I am a Medic/Firefighter IRL. I have been in a -lot- of medical RPs with doctor/medic characters and all I am thinking as it’s going on is ‘Wrong.. Wrong.. no.. n- okay, you just killed your patient.. wrong..’ But that’s not the point. The point is that I know the -character- is doing the right thing, because ICly, they know. So what if OOcly there are mistakes? I can’t exclude someone from medical RP just because they are not IRL medical professionals, and I would never want to!

Don’t be afraid to offer help! I’ve tossed whispers at medical RPers and gave them little pointers on how to more accurately depict the role. But in the end, it’s understood that you need to take a few things for granted for the sake of the character.

I’m not a mechanic IRL. I know about as much about cars as it takes to check the oil. But I have mechanic characters. I know for a fact some of the shit I say makes no sense, but people roll with it because the character, ICly, would be saying all the proper stuff.

Just remember, we play this game to be fantastic things that we are not, or to step into lives we don’t live. Don’t belittle or put someone down for not having the IRL knowledge to match. Help them out a bit if you can, but ultimately, just assume the character knows the right thing to do, fudge some details, and let the story progress. It will make everyone happier.

IVY! <3 Damn, I miss you!

Ivy is done!

She was a pain in the ass to draw. For some reason I couldn’t get anything waist-down right, especially her feet. Her legs have a weird length because of it.

My phone’s camera had trouble focusing on the picture, and as a result the lines at the bottom look scratchy while the lines waist-up look soft and blurry. The actual drawing is more homogeneous.

I had tried drawing Ivy in the past but it never turned out well. This time, despite its flaws, I’m quite happy with her! Using references makes a HUGE difference. I modified the coat and shit a little bit so that she wasn’t wearing a corset (I think that’s what the in game version is? Can’t tell).

Pencil and paper, as usual. Still no scanner or drawing pad.

Promise I didn’t draw her with hands in her pockets to escape drawing hands. I don’t usually draw hands in pockets, so getting the angle of the arms and sleeves right was an interesting challenge.
