Social Identity
An individual will portray themselves in the eye of the public in the mannerism that they desire. It is not uncommon to see artists and everyday people alter their opinions and style in order to accommodate a popular belief. Languages are a common way that which people adjust such as slang, to ‘fit in’ a social group. (Barker, 2012 p.222).
As audiences, social identity changes are captivating to watch, like in “Mean Girls”, particularly, and stereo typically as a dramatic climax is expected to occur due to the idea of not being authentic to themselves. (Mean Girls,2004).

Authenticity
An individual can and will  face conflicting issues within their live. But, whether they stay ‘true to themselves’ depends on the authenticity the hold for themselves. Authenticity is an individual’s personality and character, it can be discussed that is changes throughout time and their life due to experience’s and the idea of prioritising specific morals.
An individual will face first person authenticity, whether their art or meaning is portrayed across the medium as thy intended. This is in comparison to second, where one feels validated, that they have excelled in the area that which they thrive. Then goes to third person, which is the audience’s understand and analysis of the production of piece put together. (Moore, 2002).
The idea of authenticity is portrayed from the character Coach Carter, within Coach Carter” as he enters the school with the intention of growth and student development, and enters dilemmas and complications due to the misunderstanding of the end achievement.  (Coach Carter, 2005).

Overdetermination
Freudian theories discuss the concept of trivial behaviours, are at the centre of a ‘deep psychological complexity’ (Mansfield, 2000 p.29). It is suggested that within out subconscious that an individual desires to commit the spontaneous acts, but was only provoked to exercise out desire.  Within the text, “Gone Girl”, the female lead ‘disappears’, and experiences and commits acts of violence and what some would describe as ‘psychotic’. The turning point for why her reactions were so extreme is portrayed by the dysfunction of her marriage. (Gone Girl, 2014)

Creative Influence
A performer’s creative influence is up to their individual interpretation. An individual’s interpretation thrives off the social and political context around the text given and the time it will be performed, (Hemlin and Allwood and Marti, 2004). This can be seen throughout Shakespeare’s plays, as texts such as “Romeo and Juilet” have be appropriated add changed in order to fit the audience’s context. Shakespeare had to consider who was in power when putting on his plays, such as the Queen Elizabeth. “Romeo and Juilet” was appropriated to have guns and modern technology in Baz Luhrmann’s production. Whilst the modernisation was introduced throughout the film, the creative influence of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” was portrayed through costuming, and language

Essentialism
It is a social construct; in order for individual’s to find an ‘identity’, whilst it is not something you can discover overnight, nor is it a physical thing. Whilst Barker does declare that “a person can have an ‘essence’ of the self... there would be a fixed token...” and he goes on to say that there are common characteristics that allow people to feel as though they can belong and relate to certain identity traits, like “femininity, masculinity, Asians, teenagers”. (Barker, 2012 p.221).
It is noticed that through the character ‘Brandon’, in “Easy A”, that he connects to factors of femininity, as well as homosexuality, but has been made to feel ashamed. Through the portrayal of a sexual act between Brandon and the protagonist Olive, it allows Brandon to convey a new public identity to his peers. The image shows the juxtaposition of the goal of creating a new identity; being a heterosexual, compared to Brandon’s facial expressions that portray his discomfort within his new identity. (Easy A, 2010)

Subjectivity
Barker talks about forces and effects of what surrounds one self and the internal conflict that makes one be be subjected. “The condition of being a person and the processes by which we become a person” (Barker 2012) is similarly related to the idea of “The Little Mermaid”. The protagonist faces conflict between her desire of being a human, verses her father’s expectations of being a mermaid. (The Little Mermaid, 1989). Subjectivity envokes the idea that one is made to be the way they are due to the external forces such as opinions, beliefs and lifestyles.

Sensory Knowledge
Sensory knowledge is the interaction between an artist and the environment around them. This concept is larger than just seeing grass, or feeling the wind blow down your neck. As an artistic, portrayal through the different senses engages audience. When an actor breaks the ‘fourth wall’ and utilise crowd engagement, audiences are more captivated: commonly seen in community theatre pantomimes like “Hercules” (Roo Theatre, 2018). Particularly in “Hercules”, added skits such as audience member's receiving haircuts, engages audiences in a tactile medium; rather than just the visual.  Within the text “Skinscapes: embodiment, culture and environment”, Howes declares that as we remove ourselves from the bare ground, “we lose not only the tactile experience of its surface, but also other sensations... (ear or nose to the ground)”. (Howes, 2007, p.29)

Creative Identity
An individual’s creative identity will present a sense of different in comparison to everyone else’s. When researching and evaluating creative identity; Al Pacino is someone who embraces their creative identity. Pacino’s most famous role, is in “The Godfather” saga. (The Godfather, 1972) The sinister, manipulative man uses these traits from his previous role and embraces it when directing and acting in “Looking For Richard”. The use of type casting allows audiences to make a connection of ‘the bad guy’, if the actor has a reputation of portraying the antagonist. (Looking For Richard, 1996).  It can be said that the reasoning behind type casting, evolving into a creative identity is due to “signs of taste, beliefs and attitudes” of the performer. (Barker, 2012 p.220).

Fractured Identity
Barker discusses the idea of an identity, and directions that can alter one’s identity. An individual’s identity consists of depth and cannot be perceived as one directional. Whilst their are identity subjects such as ‘the enlightenment subject’; “person as a fully centred, unified individual” (Hall, 1992b: 275). Contrasted to the idea that identity is moulded i accordance to relationships to significant others; ‘the sociological subject’. “The Postmodern Subject” is the most value to this concept as “[p]ersons are composed not of one but several, sometimes contradictory, identities.” (Barker, 2012 p.225) “Split” shows a man (James McAvoy), experience the common illness of dissociative identity disorder. The postmodern subject is shown through the duration of the film, McAvoy’s character experiences 23 different personalities; varying in age, gender, occupation and rationality. (Split, 2016)
