Pointing out little moments and details of scenes that need to be remembered.
lake scene • episode 6
before diving into it, bare with me! the lake scene wouldn't be the lake scene if it wasn't for edvin and omar fr: the uncut version of the convo wilmon has was 8 minutes long and all improvised when it was shot. edmar just got told to say what they thought wilmon wanted to say and boom! this lake scene happened. no one is doing it like them.
oh alice is the cherry on top - the 'oh alice we're growing up', the melody fits the setting and the warm colors just right. the perfect song for the perfect scene.
talking about song - wille's song was written right after this scene as lisa said: 'i could see simon walking back home that night, sitting down by his keyboard, birds singing outside, the sun already up and finally it dawning in him: it shouldn't be a revolution to love someone'. do what you want with this info!
without further ado, let's get into it :)
the little smirk after wille stumbles is cuuute. terms are not the best but it still takes something so simple to lighten the mood.
wille's carrying his blue blanket with him can only mean they went to his room to take it before heading here - and so in the time between scenes they talked and thought about the lake to forget everything, planned to bring a blanket to lie down on and enjoy the sunrise, just the two of them :')
you can see the weight of the situation suddenly hitting him.
it's so bittersweet - the lake has always been their happy place but the mood is much darker now, they're sharing what they think is the last big moment together at sunrise.
they try to keep the convo as light as possible but they know too well how much this hurts.
the single tear streaming down.
the different reactions are what get me the most: wille seems almost relaxed in letting the emotions take over compared to simon who's very controlling over it - he blinks and bites his lip trying to stop more tears from falling, he averts his eyes.
simon's not so accepting whilst wille looks resigned.
the scene makes the best out of the limited time bc nothing feels rushed at all: there's no music at first to create that alone time intimacy properly and it keeps getting better with the camera focusing on the way they look at each other shot after shot.
wilhelm breaking the silence with it takes a fool to remain sane is the sickest thing isweartogod.
such a monumental and fond throwback. it's the first memory they have of each other but it's also the first one we have of wilmon too. it brings everyone back to that very first time.
this shot is incredible. young royals will always hold a special place in my heart and i want to remember wilmon just like this.
you would never tell they saw and touched and explored each other's body more than once by the way they're both so shy to undress and wilhelm has to tear his eyes away from simon.
they're still my favorite losers <3
it's also the first time simon undresses himself without wille's help. i think the essence is - to be completely bare and show the most vulnerable version of themselves, to get rid of all the layers and weights they carry around, to let it all behind for this one last time together.
the sparkle in simon's eyes when he looks at wille is so sweet. it's more of a bitter taste that comes with this scene, but in a list of moments that are a perfect example of how much they simply enjoy each other's company, this is definitely one of those - simon says 'when it was us it was good' at the end and it is very true.
all i see here is the plain and simple version of them, they feel so much and everything about this scene is telling us that they just needed to found the right place and the right time to let it out - the nostalgia, the sorrow, the sadness, the silly energy too. it's all so pure.
'they undress, they walk down into the water naked, and they are rebirthed'. lisa once described this moment using these words and they're probably the most accurate. it reminds me of the thing i wrote earlier - taking the white clothes off feels like freeing themselves of every burden and then stepping into the water as a form of sanctification of it.
whether you see it in a religious or a non-religious way, it is a very beautiful image.
the eye contact game is going stronger than everrr.
they're too pretty to be real ugh.
the splash of water :')
this is extremely beautiful and the transition between the two is perfectly made.
it's such a loving gesture - we can't really tell which one of the two is done before but it's the fact simon does it twice that matters: he follows the instinct to do it once but it's still not enough so he feels the need to do it again.
this shot was one of the stills that came out for promo before the season's release and i remember being completely blown away by it.
i claimed it and said this scene would be one of the core ones of the show and well, i guess i was right!
the whole water sequence is a visual representation of simon getting further and further away from wilhelm. both times he turns around to look at him tho - it's not what he wants to do but he has to do it for their sake.
also! one pov is from into the water and the other one is from the shore. idk if it's casual or hides an actual meaning but it's fun to point out sooo
too many single tears were shed for my fragile heart to handle.
this pretty much sums up the way i felt at the end too.
pain is written all over simon's face but i was not prepared for wille's sobs and his shoulders uncontrollably shaking. stab me.
he just keeps watching simon slip through his fingers and he's left to wonder what's supposed to happen now?.
from wille's words - 'how can you just be over me? i thought it would be us' - we learn that he's convinced simon is already over them and he's alone in struggling to accept it and move on (oh if only he knew).
he breathes but this is more of a this is it sigh - now it's time for me to learn how to let him go.

(wrote a little ficlet based on this quote)

Wilhelm had always hated saying goodbye.
It didn't matter the context– saying goodbye to people, to places, to things he held dear; he hated it all. He even hated saying goodbye to each season, even knowing it meant the dawn of another.
For as long as he could remember, he dreaded saying his annual farewell to summer. It meant saying goodbye to the tiny bit of freedom he'd managed to create for himself. It meant saying goodbye to quiet walks through the garden, cool dips in the pool, lying in the sun and watching bumblebees swarm the gorgeous array of flowers on the palace grounds.
This summer, it meant he was saying goodbye to his first summer with Simon, his first, truly free summer. Saying goodbye to the season that their beginning seemed born from. Not their technical beginning, but the beginning of something between them that nobody else could touch. Something nobody, save for Felice and Sara, had bore witness to. Something that felt truly, wholly theirs for the first time.
The summer had been hot, filled with hours in Sara's car, listening to music, holding Simon's hand, falling asleep on each other's shoulders. A lot of impromptu stops at questionable swimming holes, all of them splashing around, enjoying summer like the kids they still were. Wille couldn't remember a single time in his life when he'd been happier. Lying beside Simon in the warm grass, bare-chested while the sun dried their shorts, giggling and kissing and talking about everything and nothing. That was happiness. That was freedom.
Now, with the best summer of his life on its deathbed, on the last night they were spending together before everyone had to go their separate ways, for now, the air was silent, yet heavy with their looming departure. Felice was headed to a new boarding school in Stockholm, and Simon and Sara had to go home to their mama. Wille had to go back to the palace to private tutors who’d been hastily hired by the Royal Court following Hillerska’s closure, as well as months of logistics involving his abdication.
Wilhelm found himself floating in a bittersweet sea of memories they'd made.
The death of summer. They were practically lying in the bones of it, the air cooling around them with every day that passed, the sound of the insects that chirped so loudly each night slowly tapering off.
Wille reached his hand out to grasp onto Simon's, holding fast to the one thing that wasn't changing, the one thing, the one person he didn't have to say goodbye to– not really. Simon was the one true constant in Wille’s life. Their love was permanent and unshakable.
That night, under the orange blaze of that late-summer sunset, Wille said goodbye to summer, and hello to his future.

So I saw some talk about Mermaid Wilmon a little while ago and it reminded me of a thought I’ve had many times before, Wille and Ariel are so similar 😂
Prince/princess with a bad relationship to their parent who’s also the monarch. They’re unhappy with the current circumstances and dreaming about a different life. They fall in love with someone who is considered “wrong” for them. There’s a lot of pressure on them but they rebel against it to pursue love.
And now I’ve used this as an excuse to Disneyfy Wilmon. And also I’ve always liked drawing mermaids so I’m happy 😁✨

Logistically thinking Marcus was ideal partner. Simon met him in a moment when the guy was admiring his singing. He was soft and gentle and maybe even a little bit intimidated bc of being amazed by Simon's voice. Who wouldn't be?
Then he helped Simon get to the Palace during Sara's initiation night. He gave Simon a lift there and back, he was funny, he asked if Simon needs company and waited for him. He gathered lots of points that night.
Moreover, he invited Simon for karaoke event and all Simon needed to do was to show up. I think it was very different from what Simon knew. All of this was very easy and smoth.
On paper Marcus checked all the boxes. Also, I don't know about that, but he was third year with a car, tall and broad with with cute nose. It feels like nice person to be proud of dating.
But at the same time I could immediately see the difference in the distribution of their involvement - in giving and receiving. But also, that is important - in the will of doing that. Bc Marcus was so ready to give - he gave Simon a lot in the beginning and then he wanted some of it back. It is really easy to blame Simon and it is really easy to demonize Marcus (even though I don't like him). But with what they did, what decisions Simon made, being emotionally in chaos and how Marcus responded without any thinking about his state... it couln't been different...
Yeah...

Thinking about it, the way Sara became friends with Felice and didn't mind one bit her attitude for the first month kinda shows how she could excuse August so much in s2. Not that it's fair to compare August's actions to Felice's mean girl energy at first, but it does track that she would forgive August, especially if she's falling in love with him.

Sunday snippet
From a little post-abdication one shot I kinda forgot about <3 enjoy
——————————————————-
He danced in the street at 2 in the morning leaving a bar, skipping and howling at the star speckled sky with too much tequila burning in his veins.
He ran long distances—5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, one day leaving and not coming home for nearly two hours, winding down the river for miles and miles.
The next day his knees throbbed and he placed a bag of frozen peas on one, frozen corn on the other. Simon placed a hand on his cheek and looked concerned. Wille shook his head and Simon pursed his lips to the side before kissing his forehead and letting it go.
He bought a bike to save his knees, biked for hours, tried to feel free.
He shaved his head again as soon as it started to grow out.
Simon came in while he was halfway through and took the clippers, tilting Wille’s head down with his hand to shave up the back.
His wordless support overwhelmed Wilhelm beyond comprehension, and by the time Simon nudged his head back up for him to look in the mirror, his cheeks were streaked with tears.
“Baby,” Simon whispered, clicking them off and wrapping his arms around Wilhelm, whose shoulders were tacky with a light sheen of sweat and coated in tiny little hairs that had fallen from the clippers. Wilhelm clutched Simon’s torso and held on tight to his own wrists. He dug his nails into his skin violently and his whole body shook.
That night Simon whispered to their bedroom ceiling.
“Sometimes I wish I knew what was happening in your head,” he said.
Wilhelm didn’t answer for a long time.
“When I find out I’ll let you know,” he finally replied, his voice guilty and sincere.
“Promise?” Simon repeated, rolling over to look at Wilhelm.
Wilhelm nodded and held out his pinky to link with Simon’s with a serious expression.
Their pinkies linked, their gazes linked.
Simon reached for the back of Wilhelm’s head and pulled him close, rubbing his hand back and forth over the soft fuzz.
Wilhelm cried again.

yes i love the “my family owns you” scene applause applause, i know, i do
but i am also hardcore toying with the idea of an alternative s3 fight scene where someone, probably not august so like vincent or whatever, casually throws across some comment about simon, some comment youknow related to the video (which is atp in the school widely understood as something you Do Not talk about), something half meant for wille and half meant for simon, and somehow, for wille, that makes it so much worse, trying to use simon to embarrass wille, using this deeply traumatising moment for both of them, that almost tore them fully apart, like a punch line, objectifying him in a very literal sense, something cutting and mean and so completely off guard and unexpected
wille just decks him during lunch

Simon's Week Day 3: Mama
For the event being hosted by @youngroyals-events
For this one, I took inspo straight from the title. Here is a look into Linda Eriksson's head during the events of the show regarding her favorite son, Simon.
The one thing everyone knows before becoming a parent is that it's going to be hard. Of course it's going to be. Raising tiny humans and doing it well is a hard task. That's why Linda likes to count herself lucky to have been blessed with her son. Of course, she loves her daughter endlessly, but a mother of two could never have two identical kids. Sara was the tough kid, especially when she was younger. Such is life with a child who has autism and ADHD. Linda still loves her just the same. How could she not? She has to be the most beautiful woman Linda has ever seen. Simon is just different. He was the easy kid. Until he wasn't. It was terrifying when Simon first introduced her to Wille. Not only was it a sign that her baby boy was growing up, falling in love (it was obvious to her that Wille meant more than just a friend to Simon), but she also feared for his heart. Royalty was messy. She didn't exactly keep up with it, but her coworkers talked. She knew more than she liked about the lives of Sweden's royal family, about Crown Prince Erik and his previous romances. She couldn't help but worry. Although all her worrying didn't help one bit when the actual heartbreak did come. It caught her off guard as much as it did Simon. She took pride in the trust she had in her children. When she talked with Simon about what Wille's family was doing about the video, he had said that Wille would be telling the truth in the interview they were making him do. Simon had said that he and Wille were doing it together. Linda believed him. So when the interview dropped and Wille said otherwise, Linda was right there with Simon and his heartbreak. She felt for her son as much as he felt for Wille. She couldn't help but be slightly relieved, though. She had thought that this wouldn't end well, and it didn't. Now her boy was safe, and even going after someone new! Linda had thought she would always be thankful for the day Marcus stopped in to use the bathroom. To be honest, she thought Simon could use the pick-me-up. Wille had hurt him bad. He needed something new, and Marcus was just that. She would be hard-pressed to find any issue with him. Simon clearly did, though, and that is something it would take her a few months to understand. When Wille came out on national television, Linda learned about it on her own. Sara came home the night of the Jubilee with nothing to say. She ate and went to her room. Simon texted to say he was staying over at Ayub's house. Frankly, as she read the words on her screen, she was surprised. Then, she understood where Simon actually was. Clearly, plenty of things had happened that she was unaware of. She could only hope that he was happy. That much was made clear when Wille next came over, introduced this time not as a friend, but as boyfriend. Linda could see how happy this boy made her son. She hoped that he wouldn't mess it up again. She wasn't sure if Simon could handle it. Then she watched the relationship take its toll. In the end, Linda was still right to be worried. She watched as her loving, kind, forgiving, headstrong boy retreated into himself, becoming a shell of who he was. Linda wasn't sure what to do, but one thing she did know for sure was that love shouldn't be this hard. She was faced with the unfortunate intersection of parenting and her son's relationship. There was everything he had done behind her back, the trust he broke, and the recently hard-to-come-by happiness that bloomed in him whenever he was with Wille. Linda did what she thought was best, but when Simon is dropped off by his boyfriend's bodyguard with tearstained cheeks instead of staying over like he was supposed to, she can't help but blame herself. She greets him with a hug and holds him while he cries. Her wonderful, independent boy reduced to wet sobs in his mother's arms. It's much like the first letdown for Simon, but Linda can see the ways that an actual break-up is much worse. Linda wishes she could have protected him better, that this life-changing thing could have left him less hurt.
The obvious devastation within Simon makes the whiplash that much more intense when the four friends stumble into her house for dinner after the graduation. Sara and Felice giggle their way into the former's room. Linda is more relieved than anything that they seem to be back on good terms. Sara hasn't been in a good place much either since their falling out. She turns her attention to the boys, hand in hand, trying to sneak their way into Simon's room. She stops them because this is the same boy who has broken her son's heart twice. "Simon." The boy turns around slowly, avoiding her eyes. "Yes, mamá," he says. Wille has also turned around, eyes equally avoidant, but ridden with guilt when Linda does catch them. Simon straightens then, taking a step in front of Wille and pulling the other boy behind him. He meets Linda's eyes. She sees his familiar fierceness, the one she has been missing. She leans against the wall as a smile forms on her face. "What's this?" she asks, struggling to keep the humor from her voice. Simon is silent for a beat too long. Wille speaks up. "I'd understand if you'd like me to leave." His voice is strong and doesn't waver, but Linda sees his grip on Simon's hand tighten. She makes her decision. "You are welcome to stay, Wilhelm," she says, "as long as your people are aware..." "Yes!" Wille scrambles to say, stepping around Simon. "Yes, people are aware. I... I promise not to bring you any more trouble." Linda eyes him, but also checks in with Simon. The expression on her son's face tells her everything she needs to know. Something has changed, something Simon will tell her later. Right now, she should let them be. As she gives a nod to communicate just that, she feels herself relax, and gets a feeling that what he has to say will be some big news to hit Sweden in the coming years.

He arrived at the main entrance just as Simon’s car was pulling up the drive. Fondness unfurled in his chest as he watched him clamber out, yellow backpack in hand, bending down to thank the driver before turning his full attention on Wille. His mouth dropped open. Wille swallowed hard.
“Hey,” he smiled awkwardly.
Simon just stared at him, his eyes huge and dark as they travelled up to his hair and back down to his face.
“I got a haircut.”
Wille gets a new look. Simon responds favourably.

I can see Wille and Simon marrying immediately after leaving school, just because it feels right and they are ready. It would be a small ceremony, pretty casual and loving and their honeymoon is like a weekend trip to some small hut in the countryside. Decades later they might renew their vows with a bigger party.
That, or they never marry because they don't want and need to. There might be a feeling they'd losing a bit of freedom through state marriage or old ideas the queen used to put into Willes head about marriage and children and legacy. They are just Wille and Simon and that is enough, no outside concepts necessary.
