A dispute that culminated in the death of the Colonel... and ultimately caused Iris to snap. Someone he loved, coming for his throat, and without any time to think or talk... she was felled by his humming, green saber.

Even the final moments they had together could be nothing but bitter, as such promises of a utopia for Reploids fell on deaf ears, for there was no such thing as a place like that. He remembers, vividly, the weight of Iris’ mechanical body, and how much heavier it got once she slumped over in his arms. Yet, it couldn’t hope to be as heavier as the weight burdening his shoulders, or even whatever pumps his life-fluid, for such a machine surely doesn’t have a ‘heart’ of any kind.

And yet, here he was, still mourning this loss even years after tragedy and war took Iris from him. Zero is blessed with a squadron of amazing friends that back him up at every opportunity, and none are more prevalent there than X himself. But even then, the red crusader can’t help but blame himself for the loss he suffered that day.

However, he manages to offer a smile. Even through tragedy, the future is brighter than it’s ever been, and he’ll make sure that the first thing the sun gleams off of on a hopeful new day, is his shining red armor... and more importantly, the pearly whites of a grin.

Maybe he wasn’t as good at is as X was, but he knows his way around hope. Likely BECAUSE of X.
