I think I'm finally actually going to start looking into building a tiny house or something of that realm. Found out yesterday that I have to move again soon and I'm kinda sick of it.

Low Buy?
I’m thinking about challenging myself to some sort of low buy this year as I know I’m someone who likes to buy things when I’m sad/angry/upset. Is anyone else trying this in 2020?

Back visiting my home state for a few days and have taken the opportunity to sort through everything I left behind at my Nan's house and have gotten rid of about 3/4 of it 😊

Things To Remove
-Things that ruin your focus
-Things that damage your sense of self worth
-Things that get in the way of who you want to be
-Things that harm the planet
-Things that harm animals
-Things that harm other people
-Things that make you feel disconnected from the world
-Things that make you feel overwhelmed
-Things that are in control of you
-Things that draw you away from the present moment
-Things that don’t serve their purpose
-Things that don’t have to be owned to be appreciated

I relate to this so much and hopefully when I start my new job soon I’ll have the funds to be able to do more.
I don’t wanna buy things anymore.
I wanna make things.
I wanna be a creator, not a consumer.

Minimal Waste for Newbies
You want to live a more minimal waste lifestyle? Fantastic! Here’s a great way to get started:
Step 1. Have a damned good clean out and declutter of every room and inch of your living space. Then do it again in 3 months time when you’re actually serious about it.
DO NOT buy storage boxes or waste time finding ways to reorganise the stuff to make it look tidier. This is about practising reducing your psychological attachment to material things.
Step 2. Clean the spaces and start to become at home with less stuff around you.
Step 3. Remove unneeded stuff from your house. Yes, get used to letting go of things which are not essential to you. You need to learn to recognise your actual needs versus your wants.
Step 4. Marvel at how many coat hangers, pairs of jeans, rubber bands, containers, cosmetics and pantry items you actually already have in your house. Be realistic about how much of each you need to keep.
Step 4. Successfully maintain the decluttered space for at least a year. Apart from food and hygiene products, purchase nothing new. If the bum rips out of your pants, then head down to a second hand store to replace them.
Deprogramming consumer culture takes time. If you want a minimal waste lifestyle to be more than a fad diet experience you will need to devote this time.
Go on, start. I have never heard anyone say they regretted decluttering their life.
Any other suggestions for newbies from other minimal waste lifestyle bloggers?

Minimalism and Natural Disasters
Although the title of this blog focuses on my wish to be zero waste I will also definitely be discussing my attempts at minimalism.
I live in NSW, Australia and at the moment we are on ‘catastrophic fire alert’ which is the highest bush fire danger rating in Australia and has never been used since the systems introduction. Catastrophic fire alert means that all day the entire state has been told to be ready to evacuate their area at a moments notice which got me thinking;
How could I possibly evacuate at a moments notice?

I have an elderly blind dog, there is documents I need to know the locations of like my birth certificate, bank cards shoved away in drawers somewhere and precious photos that I would rather not lose. I’m honestly stressed just thinking about it.
So since we are at the beginning of Aussie summer I’m thinking a big declutter is in store, maybe making a list of everything I need to grab during an evacuation and just trying to maybe keep all those important things in one place.

A list of things I want to learn
- knitting (more than just scarves)
- embroidering
- sewing
- cooking (actual warm meals, jam, bread, pies)
- gardening
- making my own tea
- watercolour painting (I currently have no technique)
- learning how to play a music instrument (started playing the ukulele, so soothing!)
- to be continued
I just want to DIY everything from scratch with as little waste as possible. Also, I need a tiny cottage on the countryside. Or a comfy van to live in. (But damn it, I’ll make it work in the city as much as I can!)
