A maybe slightly controversial take I have is that Jaime, Cersei, and Brienne are not in a love triangle. Jaime just breaks up with Cersei and there is a possibility he will get with Brienne in the future. He's a one woman bloke.

One of the funnier hypocrisies of arguing for Hyle as a "safe" alternative to Jaime is that Hyle is closer to Jaime's age than Brienne's. Hyle served as a knight under Randyll Tarly when Sam, now seventeen, was a small child. That would put him in his late twenties if he was knighted as a teenager, and he's no prodigy like Loras or Jaime.

Rather than a sympathetic peer, Hyle is an immature, unemployed flop who — to the very end — thinks Brienne in her inexperience can be coerced out of her most deeply held beliefs. It's no wonder that Brienne is more willing to trust a worse man who tries harder to understand her despite it all.

Hyle gleefully volunteers that he wouldn't raise the children Brienne doesn't want to have as abandoned, half-clothed children scamper about. That black comic gem of a proposal allows Brienne to reject the sterile highborn marriage of convenience that Ronnet threw in her face. I would even argue that Hyle exists to be rejected.

Unlike the Stark children, Brienne could choose to go home at any time in Feast. She could book passage to Tarth with Jaime's money. She could retreat back to her father's castle where she felt safe. She could marry Hyle and live in respectable misery. But the crux of Brienne's character is that she comes to the Crossroads and doesn't turn back.

I fell into the rabbit hole of amigurumis. After showing my first attemps to some friends who happen to be in the JB fandom, one told me I have to make our two favourite blonds and sent me a tutorial. However, they were show based, but I wanted their book version, in specific this one by lovely @swordmaid

So I mixed a few tutorials. Brienne's dress is from a Merida, her hair from a Coraline, though longer. Jaime's hair is from the Merida's tutorial, though shorter, and the boots from a Zuko's. And so on. I hope you like it 🤓

2023 Fic Stats

February 2023, I decided to start tracking the amount of fic I read. I travelled a lot last year, quite a bit more than normal. I read a lot of fic when I travel.

I did a half year update at the end of June 2023. Between February and June, I read just under 13 million words.
