Situation

This is an 8 minutes sound piece which records lots of different voices. It contains several heartbeats, baby’s crying, the sound of school bells, phone rings, some TED speeches and four different movies sounds.

With these sounds, it shows the growth process of a human. From the weak heartbeats in his mother’s uterus to the last breath, we will go to school, and go for a career. We may face some unavoidable problems, but at last, we still can overcome them and achieve ourselves.

In our life, we have to play various roles and get into different situations, 

Sometimes happy, sometimes struggle. Also,  those situations can change when you are in different life stages. For example, exams may be the biggest problem in the childhood, but it may not bother us when we grow up. Instead, we have to shoulder the heavy burden of family, work or the health.

In conclusion, the transition of life roles and the change of situations actually are called growth.

The Kings Speech - Last Speech

This is the last speech after thousand times practice. After the King has known that the doctor actually is not a real doctor, he realizes that the most important quality that he needs is confidence.

I use these two parts to show how a man overcome the problems in his life.

This is a movie about a stuttering King who has to make an important speech to the public. It is the first time he speaks to the mass. Nervous and less confident, this speech is labeled as a failure, thus the King is so upset that he decides to find a someone to cure his stuttering problem and help him with his speech practice.

I use this part of the movie to show the challenges that we may face after we have graduated from the school. And it will be compared by the last speech to suggest the importance of confidence and efforts.

The Poets for Children

It is the first time that Keating has lessons with boys. He makes a moving introduction of poems and literature. This class gives boys a big shock, and from then, those boys start to think about the meaning of life and poems, which has a significant influence on their life.

Here, I use this part of the movie as the symbol of classes and school life.

O Captain, my Captain! | Thank you to Robin Williams (HD)

This is the movie -- Dead Poets Society.  It is the plot that the teacher is fired by the school, but the students stand on their desks to thank their teacher. They speak loudly “ O Captain, my Captain!” regardless of the stop of the headmaster.

I use this part of the movie to show the truth of literature and life.

Coco is a movie about life. At the end of the life, we have already had our own family. Even though we will go towards the death, we still feel happy if there is someone remember us.

At the end of my work, I record the song Remember me from this video.

Phone Bell

It is a very modern sound piece, which is a transition between the school life and the career life. This is the second situation transition in one’s life, from a student to an adult, we are not naive and innocent. We have to transform our knowledge to our work experience though there are so many challenges waiting for us.

This is a part of the movie -- Les Choristes. It mainly uses music to show the power of education. I use this movie as the background music to suggest the humanity of teaching.

School Ring Bell

It is the school ring bell, which means that it is time for the little baby to go to school. It is the first change in the life situation, from a lovely child to a student,  we have to get education, learn how to be independent and confident. To learn so many things that parents may not able to teach us.

TED Speech1

There were three different TED speeches in my work. They respond to the failure of the King’s speech, which symbols as the endless speech practices.

It means that people will face so many problems during their growing process. However, if we work hard, practice more and seize the vital chances, we can overcome them and achieve ourselves.

Baby Crying

This sound piece was recorded from a baby’s crying. And it was played after the normal heartbeat of a person, showing the birth of a man.

Baby's Heartbeat in its mom's uterus

This is recorded when my sister had her pregnancy test. It is the weak heartbeat of a little baby in its mom’s womb. I put this sound piece at the beginning of my work as a prelude to life.

Normal Heartbeat

This is a sound of a normal heartbeat, which I recorded it from the hospital. In my work, this sound was used for many times.

First time: It was used to present the birth of a baby, which symbols the human beings’ vital signs.

Second time: It was used before the recording of the King’s Speech (the first speech of the King), to show how nervous the King was.

Third time: It was also used before the recording of the King’s Speech (the last speech), to show the complicated feeling of the King. Hopeful but also a little bit nervous, the last speech shows how significant the effort was.

Death Heartbeat

This sound piece was recorded from the online sound material. It was played at the end of my work, showing the death of a person.
