Rinsed and refilled one bird bath, set up our new bird bath (it'll be a bug bath too once we get some stones and maybe a bubbler for it), moved all the indoor plants outside (my basil plant is HUGE), chattered at the bird brooding in its nest, examined a hole in the yard that may be from the dog but is also very deep and very precise, chattered at a bumblebee, finished up the east garden bed, and transplanted the biggest milkweed seedling into it.
I'll have to get started on the front garden soon too, but my mom also wants to do raised beds this year for potatoes and carrots.

its so fucking funny how the normal workday is 9-5 so like
if you need anyone to do work at your house e.g. a plumber
oops the time they want to come in is also the time you're at work
there are a bunch of minor ways that society is designed around the assumption there will be someone at your house to answer the door at all times of the day

When I was younger and researching the autism diagnosis criteria and symptoms, I thought “oh I couldn’t POSSIBLY be autistic.” Because when I read “takes everything literally” I thought it literally meant EVERYTHING and I was like “I don’t take EVERYTHING literally, just most things!” And I just realized the other day that it didn’t actually mean EVERYTHING and that was an overstatement.

One of the interesting things I learned about zoo history is that the reason so many exhibits used to be barren or floored with concrete was because keeping the animals clean kept them alive.
It wasn’t that people wanted to keep them in horrible conditions - it was that before we knew much about exotic animal medicine, all we knew is that the more thoroughly we could clean, the less they’d die. Then the tendency towards tradition that’s prevalent in animal care fields kicked in, and it took forever to shift away from that type of construction even as knowledge was gained.

Genuinely, I don’t know how else to get the word out, but I feel like if your home-cooked dinners don’t taste right, you're missing either paprika, sugar, butter, or chicken bouillon.

It is very difficult for me to find the words to explain how I can understand the ways other (predominantly white) Christians treat Catholics (particularly Latine ones in the Americas) with hate but that Catholicism, to me, is always going to be a symbol of violent colonialism and abuse.
Like I'm seeing white American Catholics here on tumblr dot com acting like they're oppressed and attacked victims because some people think saint veneration is a form of idol worship, meanwhile we're still digging up the bodies of thousands of dead Native children at Catholic schools, so forgive me for not being very sympathetic.
Why are American catholics suddenly pretending they're oppressed now. What is going on here.
