American Horror Story: Hotel (2015)

American Horror Story: Hotel recently grabbed attention for its 4th episode, “Devil’s Night”. This episode featured some past horror story actors playing the parts of notorious serial killers as they gathered around a table for dinner. The casting and costume seemed impressive, but who really were the infamous killers the actors played? 

1. Lily Rabe as Aileen Wuornos- Wuornos killed 7 men in Florida between 1989 and 1990. She was found guilty in 1992, receiving a total of six death sentences. She was executed by lethal injection in 2002.

2. John Carroll Lynch as John Wayne Gacy- Sexually assaulted and murdered at least 33 young men and boys in Chicago between 1972 and 1978. He was a well known member of the community who would dress up as a clown during town events such as parades and children’s parties. After 26 bodies were found in his crawl space he was sentenced to death, eventually being executed by lethal injection in 1994. 

3. Seth Gabel as Jeffrey Dahmer- Also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, Dahmer was responsible for 17 murders of men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His killings involved necrophilia, cannibalism, and the preservation of body parts. During psych evaluations throughout his trial, Dahmer begged psychologists for an explanation of why he did what he did. His closing statement left many unsettled, “Your honor, it is over now. This has never been a case of trying to get free. I didn’t ever want freedom. Frankly, I wanted death for myself. This was a case to tell the world that I did what I did not for reasons of hate, I hated no one. I know I was sick or evil, or both. Now I believe I was sick. The doctors have told me about my sickness and now I have some peace.” In 1992, Dahmer was sentenced to his 16th life term. Dahmer was beaten to death by a fellow prisoner in 1994.

4. Anthony Ruivivar as Richard Ramirez- Ramirez was known as the “Night Stalker” by the media. He was a rapist and burglar who terrorized LA and San Francisco from 1984 until 1985. During his first court appearance, he raised his hand to reveal a drawn on pentagram and yelled, “Hail Satan”. Ramirez was responsible for at least 13 murders and sentenced to death by gas chamber in 1989. The infamous Satanist died on death row from cancer.
