It’s…not looking that great for Choices at the moment.

Last year a niche social media platform I had used for four years shut down, and since I had procrastinated on archiving things, I got to save almost nothing. I barely got my own posts, much less other peoples’. Almost every single thing posted on that platform, all the supportive comments and all the DMs between friends, is gone forever and there is no way to access it.

The situation is different with Choices, obviously, since every story has plenty of playthroughs recorded and posted on YouTube, so when Choices shuts down, nothing will be completely lost.

But if you want to remember these series with your own MCs and all of your own choices - that is something you will not be able to get back if you don’t save it.

It’s impossible to know when Choices will shut down - if it’ll die a slow death over the course of years or if the end is closer than we want it to be. It’s impossible to know how much notice we’ll get before sunset.

If you wait, there is no way to know how much time you will have to archive things. And trust me, since I’ve started the process - it will take longer than you think it will.

So I’m telling you - don’t wait. You will regret it.

The internet and all things digital are ephemeral unless you put in the effort to make sure they aren’t. So put in the effort! Save the things that bring you joy and allow yourself to relive them. One day, you’ll thank yourself for it.

I know most of you have seen the videos of "Gaza before October 7" and it shows the beautiful sunsets, horses, gorgeous beaches of Gaza

It makes total sense that these videos are made by Palestinian living in Gaza

But it is suuuuuuper weird to blindly repost these without really acknowledging the enormous shadow looming over each of these wholesome, colourful clips

In the background of these clips is a population of 2.2 million, 1.7 million of whom are refugees, crammed in one of the most densely populated areas globally, often described as an open air prison

The same area has been placed under a brutal siege by Israel since 2007

This siege means that no one/nothing can enter or leave Gaza without obtaining permission from Israel which they more often than not deny.

This resulted in over 60% of the population are food insecure as Israel controls all the food that enters Gaza, placing the whole population on a controlled diet.

In turn, 80% of the population depends on humanitarian assistance.

This also meant that over 80% of people in Gaza live below the poverty line with ~50% unemployment rate.

When it comes to water and electricity, 97% of Gaza's water is unfit for human consumption and Gaza receives only 30% of its needed electricity.

On top of that, as part of the siege, people who need treatment outside of Gaza are usually denied permits by Israel and are left to die under siege.

So clearly Israel didn't begin bombing Gaza in October 2023, rather this can only be described as an acceleration of its ongoing violence and bombardment of the besieged strip, not to mention its regular shooting of fishermen at sea as another arbitrary act of violence against the besieged civilian population of Gaza.

Yes, Gaza is beautiful despite everything and it will be most beautiful in the eyes of its residents. But we (us, you and me who aren't in Gaza) should be smarter than to just repost "Gaza before October 7" without any additional context, furthering the assumption that the history of the Palestinian struggle started on October 7.

i keep seeing posts about BDS going around, so im making one of my own that says why BDS is calling for certain brands to be boycotted because for some reason no post going around says that information except when it comes to mcdonalds?

i wrote this post because i saw a post saying "only boycott these three companies to help palestine!" but the three companies listed arent even on the official BDS websites list (which you can find here), which i found very bizzare

also, on the BDS websites list of companies to boycott, theres a link to connect with BDS organizations in your country to know any brands in particular being targetted in your country. it requires you to input your email, so do be aware of that

(and, a personal note: while its not stated on the page, any money earned from purchasing israeli fruits and vegetables would probably, well, go to israel, and any that the government collects from the sales would likely also be used to produce weaponry to be used against palestinians. thats actually why i assumed israeli fruits and vegetables was being boycotted before reading the page! although, of course, since its not listed on the page and i dont know much about government take this personal note with a grain of salt and critical thinking)
