This has already taken 42 hours and will be the most detailed one I have done. I am enjoying the process and taking my time. This is the first of my endangered species series. The Sumatran orangutans need all the help they can get. I will donate 10% of the price of this painting when sold to their cause. As with all my paintings, this was painted in what I have named pyrowax. It is a combination of pyrography(wood burning) and encaustic painting ( a mixture of molten…

Endangered Species WIP This has been a great challenge and has taken 162 hours so far. 10% of what ever it sells for will be donated to go towards helping the orangutans. Please come and visit the Backdrop Gallery during SALA throughout August. I Think I am almost finished and will have it up and hanging for the SALA festival.

Gorgeous Eyes the sole of the painting. These eyes are so adorable. The eyes are definitely the sole of the painting, I have just started adding encaustic paint to mama orangutan.

The orangutan This is definitely the most challenging subject I have undertaken and one dear to my heart. Work In Progress This process so far has taken 110 hours and I suspect it will probably take close to that time again.

Endangered Species Series WIP The size of this piece makes it challenging, but fun. So far I have spent 85 hours on this one. I have now started adding colour. Using a stylus with an dip nib, this stage is as time consuming as the burning.

DIY Solar Bees Wax Bleacher
DIY Solar Bees Wax Bleacher
Tumblr media
After researching how to bleach bees wax without chemicals, I have built my own. So far I am very pleased with the result. I built it with spare parts I had around the house. The base is a spare worm farm module. The rest is from the top part of a dish warmer I bought to use for my heated palette. The frame for the dishes fits pertfectly in the base and the three dishes are used to house the wax.…

I Get Asked Why? I often get asked “Why bother adding colour to your wood burnt pictures, when they look good as they are?” I hope that this painting of the motorbike half done, shows why.

Roadmaster With Colour
Tumblr media
This is the way I add colour. The wax part of Pyrowax. At this stage I pick the colours I intend to use, even make new coloured blocks if need be. I use my encaustic stylus with an ink dip nib forced into the end. This allows me to get the fine detailed thin lines as needed. This nib has a large resevoir so even though it produces a fine line, it actually saves a lot of time as I do not have to…

Roadmaster Ready For Colour The painting is now ready for me to add encaustic paint. The pyrography is complete. I always get excited at this stage with just a tad of anxiety.
