summary
This is my last Tumblr of this semester, and it's my summary of the semester. In this class, I learned a lot of knowledge, such as how to use In Design. Before that, I couldn't use it very well, but through this course, I learned how to layout. This course also expanded my thinking and let me know that many ordinary things can be designed into interesting things (such as a sentence). My handwork skills also improve. Before, I could only get satisfaction from things such as clothes and cosmetics. But now my satisfaction can also come from the things I design.
I also learned that designing something requires constant improvement to make it better. Don't stay at the same.
In the future, I will keep improving my work and learn more about the history of what I am learning. "Design comes from life", so I will also keep writing the interesting things I see every day and the little ideas I come up with. I'll also learn more about designing software and finding other uses for ordinary things.

week12
This week is the last week of this semester, and Project4 has entered the final stage. Since I didn't get any feedback in class, I sent an email to Bailey. She gave me very useful feedback. I am sorry for the mistake I made in interviewing. I rewrote the questions and answers and sent them to Bailey again. She said that my question and answer have a lot more personality! 😊
In this process, I know the importance of paraphrasing, and my grammar needs to be improved. Design needs to constantly improve. Through the feedback, I know how to use the knowledge in class, such as the use of the grid underpinning, I need to use the grid on all pages to help them more unified. I will continue to improve after that.
Follow are five questions I rewrote:
How do you think of Bauhaus design's criticism?
Why did you want to build Bauhaus and how did you build it?
What personality do you think an artist need?
What kind of design method did you emphasize?
What do you think are the advantages of modernism?

Tumblr media
This week is the last lecture of the semester. Andy helped us review what we have learned this semester, including the evolution of the word, the change of technology and the impact on people's life. I think this knowledge helps me a lot! I learned a lot about history and how some machines were made, which helped me a lot in my design. In the future, I will learn more about the history of objects and learn more knowledge. I also try more, instead of doing the old things all the time.

week11
This week, I have almost finished the zine. I changed the layout of the previous week and it became less crowded.
Tumblr media
In this class, we also edited the document, which I thought was interesting, and we were free to create whatever we wanted, but unfortunately I had a problem with Photoshop, and I couldn't edit the images, so I had to make a few changes to the text.
Tumblr media
lecture
The design of the eye tracker really surprised me about this low-cost, creative technology. This is a huge advance in technology.
Tumblr media
I did some research on 3D printing technology, and I found that 3D printing technology originated from the photographic sculpture and geomorphological shaping technology studied in the United States in the late 19th century, and developed in the late 1980s. It integrates information, materials, biology, control and other technologies, which will have an important impact on the future manufacturing production mode and human life style.
Tumblr media
I like this design very much, it can draw a lot of interesting patterns.

week10
This week we learned collage, which I like very much, because I think it is very free and changeable, and can make many unexpected things. I also did some research after class.
Through my research, I found that collage beginning in the modernist period and continuing into the contemporary art world, the collage art form has undergone a series of changes as more and more artists opt to explore it.
Tumblr media
Picasso, ‘Bottle of Vieux Marc, Glass, Guitar and Newspaper’ (1913) https://mymodernmet.com/collage-art-collage/
Tumblr media
Francis Picabia, ‘Tableau Rastadada’ (1920)                                                 source from:https://mymodernmet.com/collage-art-collage/
Generally speaking, collage is a painting technique in which photographs, newspaper clippings or other thin materials are glued onto a detailed canvas.
I also made some designs for my zine
Tumblr media
This is the design of the content, just a small part. I put two questions and answers on one page, it may seem too crowded, I will continue to complete and improve.

week9
In week 9 tutorial class, we had one-on-one check-ins with Tumblr blogs. Since I hadn't posted on Tumblr at the time. Therefore, my tutor cannot give me feedback, and I will post my journal on Tumblr in the next few days.
On Sunday, I received my feedback. Bailey wrote in great detail, and I did not understand the lecture, so what I wrote in that part was wrong. In addition, I can add some pictures and the process of the project, and my progress is a little slow, so I will write more every day.
Also I changed my project3 theme to Walter Gropius. Because when I looked at the lecture, I was very interested in his Bauhaus. And I also wrote five questions and answers.
Tumblr media
Lecture
This week’s lecture is about postmodernism and futurism. I am very interested in the art of this period, because the artists broke away from the rules of art and created something very special instead of following the tradition blindly. I also did some deep research about Ettore Sottsass  .
Tumblr media
source from:https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-design-icon-ettore-sottsass
Mr Sottsass's work is known for its whimsy, and the inspiration that seems to come out of the game is often brilliant. He is full of love for each object, and his works incorporate many elements. In his design, Sottsasser pays more attention to the design of culture and lifestyle.
Tumblr media
The Valentine typewriter by Ettore Sottsass
source from:https://au.phaidon.com/agenda/design/articles/2016/september/14/how-ettore-sottsass-made-the-typewriter-sexy/
His work suggests to us that the function of design is not absolute, but malleable. Function is not only material, but also spiritual and cultural. Products should not only have use value, but also express a spiritual connotation. This made me feel his love for design, and he was not restrained by tradition, and he often used outside jokes to achieve a completely different effect from the orthodox design.

Week 8
In tutorial class, we discussed the assessment selected topic and five questions about it, we had a group discussion, in the discussion, I found that my problem is too ordinary, there is no specific, so I will make changes, the members of the team also help me to choose a question that I asked one of the best. The question is “What are the drawbacks of Modernism”, but that problem is also not very good, so I will ask other five questions.
These are my first five questions and answers.
Tumblr media
The first five themes I chose were Marcel Wander, Tom Dixion, Droog, Modernism and Bauhaus. However, Marcel and Tom are in the middle of their careers and Droog is also relatively young so they aren’t quite ’historically significant’ in design. And I am attracted to the free style of modernism, so I choose to be modernism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition, each of us asked the most interesting question about the lecture, which I found very interesting, which helped me understand the lecture better and strengthened my impression.

week7
This week, we started the discussion of the final project. The theme of this project is to find an artist or art movement. We need to think of five topics first and then choose one. We had a little discussion in class, but I haven't decided what to choose yet.
Tumblr media
The workshop,I tried to make the sentence "for you". At first I thought it was easy, but when I started doing it, I found it difficult. I tried many times to make some letters, like "u". But I find it very interesting that each letter can be made in many different ways. I haven't done this kind of activity before, so this is a trial for me.
lecture
In this week's lecture we learned about Bauhaus created by Walter Gropius. I am very interested in Walter Gropius. I think he is very innovative. He opposes the frivolous design of antique buildings and promotes the development of modernist design style.
Tumblr media
He founded The Bauhaus School, and it has a course outline.

week6
Because of Easter, this week has been a transition week for me, I just finished my first assignment, I can relax a little bit, but I need to do some research and prepare for my next assignment, and get ready for a one-on-one interview.
lecture
Tumblr media
At the beginning, I learned the use of layout design and space. Neither too much nor too little layout design would make people feel depressed, while too little would be boring.
Tumblr media
Josef Muller created the Grid System. This system is just a help. Every designer has a different style, so they have to learn how to use it first.

week5
In the final stage of the project, I first put these things on the black table, but the round table could not take photos well. Then I put these things on the floor of my room. Due to the influence of the light, I took pictures in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening, and I was most satisfied with the photos taken at noon. I also tried a lot of poses to finish the shoot, including lying on my stomach and standing on the bed. Getting down on the ground would put my shadow in the picture, so I standed on my bed to finish the photo.

lecture
This lecture introduce a topic that I am very interested in -- printing. When I was a child, I was very interested in stamper, and often bought stamper with my name on them for my exercise books. After Andy's explanation, I was surprised at the complexity of printing at that time. People had to use huge machines to print.
Tumblr media
I was also surprised by the accuracy of the printing, which to me was a very casual thing. From this understanding, I think it is helpful for me to learn the completely painting techniques of ancient people for the accuracy of my design.

week4
This week we have classes online and it's been an amazing experience!! I've never experienced this before. However, I still hope to return to the campus as soon as possible, and I hope to communicate face to face with my classmates and Bailey.
I started the project “Hello, my question is...” Because of COVID-19, many stores were closed and travel was restricted, so I had to find some items at home.
Among the objects I found, I thought “i” was very interesting. This is a filter. I thought it was very cute.
Tumblr media
In class, we were asked to bring a book and have a group presentation.
Tumblr media
Through communication with the team members, I realized that the use of layout and color is crucial to communication design, the magazines they showed also used strong colors.
lecture
Tumblr media
Andy introduced movable type. I knew about it when I was in elementary school. I was amazed at the wisdom of the ancients.
I did some research,I found that the world's first movable type printing technology for printing paper books was made of porcelain materials and was invented around 1040 AD in China during the Northern Song Dynasty by the inventor Bi Sheng (990–1051).[1] The oldest extant book printed with movable metal type, Jikji, was printed in Korea in 1377 during Goryeo dynasty.

week3
This week, we carved sentences, emojis and selfies out of silly Putty. Then talk to your classmates and guess what they drew. I like this activity very much.
Tumblr media
This is the sentence "What's your name?" Umm, this is a little bit ugly and not very clear. I'm just  using the stick to gently scratch the surface, maybe I should press down hard. When I did it, I found that it was not an easy activity. Due to time constraints, I had to quickly think what to do and how to do it. I think it's a good exercise for our minds.
Tumblr media
hahaha, this self-portrait is too ugly, we stick them to the wall, others  are good 😅. I feel a little sad. After that, I must do it carefully.
lecture
Andy talks about how early writing started in Japan, China and other countries. What I notice is interesting is that the ancient way of reading is from right to left, and the modern way is from left to right. I saw a lot of plaques when I was in China, and they actually read from right to left.
Tumblr media
I think this robot is quite interesting. This is the earliest prototype 2or3 years ago. With the development of science and technology, can we not write by ourselves in the future? 😉

week2
This week is a public Holiday, so I study at home. I went to the Lecture as usual.
Andy showed us how written languages and symbols have changed over time and what determines how modern society communicates. Watching this evolve, I was amazed at the process of how simple modern communication become simple. (Emoji were introduced here.) Andy asked us if emoji were important. My answer is yes!!
Tumblr media
source from:https://omniglot.com/writing/sumerian.htm
For example two sentences:
The film is very good.
The film is very good!!😉
It is obvious that the second sentence expresses stronger emotion than the first one. Communication on the Internet is cold, because you can't see other people's facial expressions and body movements face to face, and sometimes it is even easy to misunderstand the meaning of others. The invention of emoji solves this problem perfectly. Make communication on the Internet warm. I like emoji so much when Chatting that I even think it would be a bad attitude if I didn't use them. 😂
In the end, Andy introduces us to our first assignment, which is to use objects to ask a question. And show us some examples. Some are made of stones, some are even made on their bodies. I feel that design is so changeable that some small and insignificant items can be used for design. I need to develop my imagination.

Week 1
This is the first week of my study at RMIT, and my college life has started since then. I was excited and nervous.
In class, we need to use the objects we bring to make the letters. Since I didn't bring a lot of things, this was constrained. On the team, we need take place the alphabet and Numbers 0 to 9. The classmate  took out his breakfast😂, some students took the watch, bracelet. In this process, I realized the changeability of design. Many objects can be changed into "Numbers or letters" by imagination. Different things can be combined into new "letters". We did it quickly and smoothly.
Tumblr media
This is the work of our team. We used pens, lipsticks, charging cables and a lot of other materials. Charging cables are very changeable and can be turned into any shape. The "H" made from two battery packs and a gum box is fun.
For me, the first class is very interesting!
