Viral Interventions: Final Proposal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our final proposal was the beach idea, and we decided to go to the beach and clean up trash to enact the meaning of our sentence, which was changed to “Our shores show the history of those who aggressively corrupt and trump over the environment,” and in spanish it is “nuestras orillas muestran la historía de quiénes corrompen agresivamente y sé aprovechan del medio ambienté.” We planned to go to Miami beach and clean up as a way to demonstrate our motive. There will be a flyer with a QR code to provide people with more information. We will have uniforms with designed shirts so people can see we are in a group.

The sentence we came up with was "Corroded stones show history of those who aggressively trump over the fallen grass of corruption.” We wanted to visually express all aspects of this sentence, and created a stop motion film based on it. We included the words we chose in specific fonts and colors to represent their nature, and corresponded the dramatic, silly editing to the overall mood of the sentence. We wanted to evoke emotions by using stop motion, text on screen, dramatic and upbeat music, and vibrant filters. The stop motion displayed us "trumping" over "corroded stone", along side "fallen grass" i.e the moss and leaves across the forest ground.

QCQ
Quote: “Money talks. Whose values?” says Kruger… “These are just ideas in the air and questions that we ask sometimes—and questions that we don’t ask but should ask.”
Comment: The quote "Money talks. Whose values?" resonated with me because it displays the whole vibe of Krugers work. Its not meant to just critique capitalism, but rather is making a statement to question the systems that we are active in and also inhabit. Growing up in an environment covered with ads, I can understand how Kruger attempts to shift a commercial aesthetic to one that prompts a more visceral reaction. It is this specific part of the quote that made me think about how often we accept our naturally given ruling class without consideration of their basis. In addition to its potential for communication, art can be blunt and confront us with truths we often ignore.
Question: Do you think the way that Kruger uses blunt and simple language in her displayed text will communicate effectively to her audience? Will it impact them differently than more traditional styles of art? Does the directness make it appear as bold and direct, or strike a more confrontational and combative feeling?

Sentence: Corroded stone shows history of those who aggressively trump over the fallen grass of corruption.
For my proposal, I was thinking of doing a sort of public shrine, for anyone to come up and view. My audience is mainly just curious people who have a reaction towards the shrine. The shrine will have a base of styrofoam made to look like stones, and it will have the imprint of a boot mark above it, hence the “aggressively trump”. Around it will be patches of grass and moss to make it look worn down. It will be adorned with corporate logos to reference a twisted worship of corruption meant to get a reaction out of people and draw attention. Finally, fake offerings will be added, such as fake notes, fake candles, flowers, things that you would normally find on a shrine etc.

Interactions: Color, Space, Perception, Surfaces

In this project, I decided to use the fairy lights I have at home in my room as a light source. I also used a tree lamp and my phone light as experimental sources. I painted sheer coats of shades of pink, purple, blue, and green to create a see through gradient on a sheet of plexi -glass. The goal was to make the paint sheer enough that when light shines through it, the paint color reflects of whichever surface its being reflected on. I also incorporated the use of small star shaped glass pieces to better communicate the artistic idea of reflective light. I really enjoyed crafting this project because it came out how i imagined it in the end.
