“Couldn’t you have just sent a picture?” He whined. “The whistle is not the most noticeable thing about your look.” Sunny pulled his hair over his shoulder like a heavy bag– which, at the moment, it was. Trying to get these things into a container would have been too much of a hassle. The only way he could figure to keep them from bolting them was the constricting hold of his feelers. “I hope you have a cage or a box or something. I need some place to put them.

“Perhaps I could have said that I would be the one in the helmet. But if another were to show up with one, you may have had some difficulties finding me. I know at the very least this whistle is a one of a kind item.” Showcasing the whistle for him to see.

Observing the shape of the peculiar bag, the man pulled aside a crate that you would use for a dog and quickly assembled it. “I have to say, I’ve never seen anyone capture live prey like that before. When you’re ready drop it into the crate.”

DESPITE SWALLOWING ALL LIGHT, a glint seemed to reside in his eyes while the curse was detailed to him. He processed the symptoms and how they may translate into the rules of his own world. Excruciating, repugnant, purpose and punishment were especially cruel for those who sought the truth. ( If that was waged against ignorance, the price for it was remarkably high… but always worth it, so he believed. ) As the man before him proved, a strong will and intellect could carve their way even towards the center of earth itself.

          “THE CONDITIONS ARE REMARKABLE. FROM WHAT YOU SAY, IT’S INDEED A MULTI-LAYERED TYPE OF SPATIAL-BARRIER SPELL THAT OBSERVES SOULS TO IDENTIFY ITS TARGETS, YET ALTERS SOLELY THE SHELL ON A MOLECULAR LEVEL. ”

Moonlight hung a shadow over the growing smile on his features.

           “OR THAT IS THE ASSUMPTION. COMMONLY A CURSE IS ATTACHED TO A SOUL AS A CONDITION AND THEN ALTERS IT. ‘THIS SOUL WILL CONTRACT THE PLAGUE’ OR ‘THIS SOUL WILL TRANSFORM INTO A MONSTER’ FOR EXAMPLE. IF WE IMAGINE THE SOUL AS SOMETHING ABSTRACT WHICH REFLECTS ITSELF ON ITS SHELL, THEN A SPELL TIED TO IT WILL ALWAYS BEGIN THERE AND THEN TAKE OVER ITS SHELL. NATURALLY A SOUL SEEKS TO REJECT A CURSE DEPENDING ON ITS WILLPOWER BUT… THAT IS ONLY THE CASE IF IT IS POSSIBLE FOR IT TO PERCEIVE THE CURSE AS SOMETHING TO BE REJECTED AT ALL. IF IT WERE TOO ABSTRACT TO COMPREHEND OR MADE TO BE COMPREHENDED AS ‘LAW OF THE WORLD ITSELF’ IT WOULD BE ABSOLUTE.” 

The lord of vampires paused, comparing it in mind to the ones he practiced and knew of. This was fascinating to him, the idea of a curse that did not tinge one’s soul with intent that could be repelled. Useless to his endeavors but practical in spreading suffering regardless.

     “I WOULD LOVE TO STUDY ONE OF THESE ‘NARAHATES’ MYSELF. WERE MY POWERS RESTORED IT WOULDN’T POSE A PROBLEM TO ATTEMPT REPLICATING THE CURSE OF THE ABYSS IN THIS CITY. NOW, WHAT MAY THIS BLESSING BE…?  ” 

“Indeed it is remarkable, It’s why I find myself so enthralled by it. I do believe you are on the right track when you say that the Curse attacks the soul rather than the shell. That willpower could be why some are more resistant to it than others. At least in the early layers, you’ll find more experienced delvers are able to shrug off the effects more than the inexperienced. Despite the shell being similar in form and function. And from my findings, the soul does appear to remain in the Narahate. But this would just be a theory and would require more substantial evidence to confirm.”

“I’ll be looking into establishing an facility here in the city to continue developments of medication and weaponry. But if replicating the curse is possible in this city, I welcome you to join me in that work. I’m sure that the resources available to us here would be of infinite value to us.” Bondrewd was eager to hear about the other’s experiences with curses. To think that he would find another like him was fascinating. Perhaps there was value to what the scientists of this city were doing.

“Now to explain the Blessing. From my research into the effects of the sixth layer, I found that under extremely specific conditions, one can obtain an elevated form of Narahate. Picture a form that would twist your body to a form closer to the apex predators of the Abyss. Providing you with enhanced physical capabilities as well as the ability to see the Curse. While retaining your humanity and remaining entirely coherent. I’m sure you can see why I would call this a blessing from the Abyss.”

If they don’t leave a body behind when they die, then I suppose I will need them alive. However I have my doubts about that. Are you sure they don’t leave anything behind such as residue? Some kind of markings made from them?

Even if this guy didn’t have much money, Sunny might at least get the payment of satisfying his curiosity. This guy was talking like he was a legitimate kind of scientist, which was more than refreshing.

“Amplify... mana?” That was a term he was largely unfamiliar with. Something written in a few dusty tomes that tried to explain the world with magic. From what he gathered from there was that it had something to do with life force. However accurate that was remained to be seen, but the notion that a force such as mana actually existing was interesting to say the least.

“A sword that can incinerate that it cuts, and discharge it’s energy to intentionally cause recoil... an interesting choice of weapon. However I wonder how practical it can really be. I would fear that one would have their arm ripped off with a single error with that sword.” Not to dissimilar to Blaze Reap now that he thought about it.

       He still lacked enough information to know for sure, but if he was correct, Hazama had just found something truly wonderful.

“Am I a seeker of knowledge?” A short audible laughter could be heard as he raised his arms.
