rationale/ reflection

the colours were inspired from my moodboard i created as while i was doing research, most of the images of Hillary climbing Everest had blue in it! the blue also represents and related back to the text he speaking about jet boats, his speech is about the journey they took on their jet boats to reach the highest point of 6000 feet on the boats to be able to start climbing, the blue represents the oceans, and rapids, then when it turns to white that resembles the white snowy Himalayas portraying that they are not on sea level any longer and are on the mountain! with text inclining and declining throughout my animation, takes you on a journey feeling like you were with Hillary conquering the slopes. Having the mountain illustration I made using the pen tool towards the end was a journey to his destination so it made sense for it to be placed towards the end of the animation. I really like how I added a touch of 50s elements here and there, giving it some 50′s character feelings, but also staying on board with my inspiration of the book design posted below in my blog. this allowed for my video to appeal from kids through to adults (everyone)

overall i really struggled with adapting to after effects but towards the end i got more comfortable with the program and managed to do more advanced things thanks to the help of youtube tutorials and the in class lessons! I am pretty pleased with how I went and with my final outcome. i’m really glad i got to work with adobe after effects the things you can do on this program is insanely cool and i’m glad to have some what of a knowledge about it, will definitely be keen to learning more!

GRAIN FILTER (fail)

I really wanted to put a grainy, dusty, old texture filter over top of my whole animation, and most of them you had to pay for and I found a couple free ones so I downloaded them and tried them out but them some man was talking through my laptop in slow motion and this weird loud noise aswell and it FREAKED ME OUT so I deleted it, so that's why I didn't end up using the effect which was a shame because it would have given my video some more touches of the 50′s but that's okay I still really like the way it turned out and it appeals to a large audience including kids which was what I was aiming for anyways!

side note

also, side note, my laptop crashed through the animation and me being me I hadn't backed up any of my files so I lost everything, I had to restart everything and update everything because after it crashed, my after effects wouldn't open at all, not even allowing me to make a new comp or anything, even the auto saved back up files after effects makes weren't working either, so I had to restart which was pretty annoying considering how much I struggled using/ learning after effects but you can DEFINITELY see how much I learnt and progressed towards the end of my animation as there is a big difference !!!

this was my royalty free sound track i used in my final!! i STRUGGLED to find a backing track i thought i’d never find one that fat with the right tone i wanted i scrolled for hour down audio jungle and the ones i did find that were somewhat alright... where like $50NZD no thanks!!!

i think this backing track works well because it sounds like it’s adventurous and you want to know what’s gonna happen next which pushes you that little bit more into the video to want to know where/ what Hillary did next on his quest

i like this look of the type of a path mocking a flowing river, but i think the sentence was too long so i just cut it down in my final to only say which all rivers flow

Process screenshots - very indecisive - making the text sit perfectly without and letters looking distorted so it’s still readable

this is the font I decided to go with.

a perfect subtle touch of the 50s in my typography, Prestige Elite mocks the look of a typewriter’s machine font. The font was also released in the year 1953, which is the same year Hillary conquered Everest

I also used the font “Helvetica Neue” in a bold and/ or italics weight for the words I wanted to stand out, just like the inspo from the book I poster below

my moodboard for my animation! I really loved the blue colours and the 50′s pop art designs. this fits perfectly for the mood of my animation I want to go for with a 50′s touch but still for an audience of kids right up to adults!
