"If I was a man, then I'd be the man." - Blake
“Hell yeah, you would!” Shaggy agreed, a little overenthusiastic as he reached out to high-five her. Truthfully he didn’t exactly know what she meant. He was just vibing, but if Shaggy was anything it was loyal and supportive, and Blake always knew what she was talking about, so he was going to agree with her. “You’d be the man!”

"There's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear."
“Dazzling?” Shaggy blinked in surprise, he couldn’t help but feel a little flustered. He wouldn’t consider anything about him to be dazzling at all... or mysterious. He was a mess. He carried an air of weed with him everywhere he went. He could go two days without remembering to brush his hair. He was socially awkward and just all around... a loser, honestly, even his parents would say so. “Like, t-thanks,” he said after a moment, a nervous laugh falling from his lips. He had to look down to hide the blush that was creeping into his cheeks. “I think that’s all you, though.”

Cubby smiled at the mention of the new year. “That’s true, that’s true. I’m glad you’re liking it!” He’d been thinking a lot about the new year and how a lot of changes usually come along with it, including with his job. He didn’t have anything against The Candy Bar, but he couldn’t help but feel like there was more for him out there somewhere. He didn’t want to just be a server forever. “I’ve been wanting to try new things, too, but not just with food .. Like with life, you know?”
♡
“Oh yeah, it’s awesome. Ten out of ten, would recommend.” Was that just the munchies talking? Perhaps. But Shaggy considered himself a food expert --- he’d definitely eaten enough of it to count for something. “No, yeah, me too!” He nodded excitedly. He’d been stuck in his bubble so long. It was one of the reasons he remodeled his apartment. He needed more positive change in his life. “That’s great, man, that’s inspirational. You got any specific goals?”

Shaggy couldn’t help but laugh at how interested Buffy was with Scoob, who seemed to share the sentiment entirely, waving at her when she turned her eyes to him. “Oh yeah, it’s great, best food around! Except Faith’s All You Can Eat Buffet, or maybe Jean Bon’s Burger Shop. The Big Donut is pretty good too. Oh, and--” He paused with a sheepish grin, realizing he was just listing off every eating establishment in Coolsville. “Like, I guess they’re all pretty good.” He was determined to not make this interaction awkward... somehow, though unsure what would make it any different than all of his other interactions that found a way to be awkward. “Oh, hey! I haven’t ordered yet. You wanna sit with us?”

Buffy really liked Coolsville, even though it was a little spooky. Truth be told, she was hoping to run into a certain guy and his cute dog, but even if she didn’t that was okay. She wanted to meet as many people as possible and she hadn’t gotten to see that many people in Coolsville yet. She had just finished talking to a really sweet brunette with a killer fashion sense when she saw Shaggy. It was clear that the girl was his friend because she gave him a quick hug before leaving. The sight of Scooby was enough to perk her up immediately and she went over to scratch the dog’s ears. She had almost forgot her goal entirely until she heard awkward shuffling and she looked up at Shaggy with a blush. “Oops. Sorry. Hey, Shag! You dining here too? I’ve never been here before.”

“Wait, really? You aren’t? Totally got the wrong vibe, here,” Shaggy joked. He wasn’t sure what made him think to ask the question, but it had achieved its goal, making her laugh hard enough to make him laugh. “What would I do? Probably have a panic attack. I can’t entertain that many people.” The idea of swimming in ladies was actually... a nightmare, for him, in all honesty. He was more of an admire-from-afar kind of man. Exhaling, he offered Miriam the half smoked blunt with a lopsided grin. “Like, you know, for a proclaimed bachelor in paradise, I gotta say, my dms sure are bone dry.”

Maybe he was being overdramatic, but he had certainly jumped and maybe screamed like he was dying more than once throughout the film. Shaggy couldn’t help it. He did like spooky stuff, but his poor little heart could only take so much. “What we have here today is a classic,” he was grinning as he held up the DVD, one of his comfort movies. The one he’d put on after a bad day, curl up in a blanket fort and shove his face with pizza until he felt sick. “Tell me, Gwen, have you ever seen the 1985 masterpiece that is The Breakfast Club?”

Shaggy was someone that was guilty of sticking with what made him comfortable. He loved being adventurous with food, but he didn’t love being disappointed when he knew his usual was right there on the menu. Today he’d decided to push himself out of his shell, figuring if he was disappointed, he’d just make a second order. “It’s a new year, gotta try new things,” he grinned. “Like, I think I’m a little sad I’ve waited so long to try it, actually, it’s great.”
This wasn’t the first time Cubby saw Shaggy at his work, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. The Candy Bar was probably Shaggy’s dream come true, with so many food items and sweets he could enjoy. Cubby had already brought over his food to him, and with just a little bit of time before his shift ended, he decided to take a seat beside the guy at the counter, taking advantage of how slow it had been. “Changed up your order today? How was it?“ @zoinkshag

Buffy smiled at him. “That’s so adorable. She has excellent taste.” She hoped he didn’t feel like she was giving Scooby too much attention and ignoring him completely. She was just more at home with animals and it was honestly making this whole party so much more fun. “We do have the greatest minds. Don’t tell my sister Blake that though. She will have an entire Powerpoint on how she has the best mind. All love, though.” She started heading towards the bar, trying not to go too fast so Shaggy could keep up and she didn’t look too eager to drink. “What can I order for you? I want whatever you’re having!”
♡
“Like, she’s the best,” Shaggy nodded. Following Buffy, he tilted his head as they walked. “Blake’s your sister?” Assuming they were talking about the same Blake --- he didn’t know that. At least, he didn’t remember being told that. “Oh, um,” he hesitated, trying to not sound like an idiot when she asked what to order. He’d love to be fancy and spout off some sort of mixed drink name, but nothing came to mind. “I don’t drink that often, I... I don’t really have a preference. Just a shot of... vodka or something, I guess?”

The fact she’d been able to do anything in New Years Eve was a shock, honestly. Most of the time their dad was protective over the girls and wanted to make sure nothing happened to them. Once these new cities opened up he’d lightened up a little to the new protection, she still not telling him she wanted to move away from home and start going to school here. That was the moment she feared but she was working up to it, telling herself the new year would be when she did it. Tonight she was just trying to have fun but she didn’t have a clue who to talk to. She tried to act as put together as possible but she wasn’t as bubbly and talkative as Buffy or preferred to be alone like Bex. Seeing the familiar face of Shaggy brought a smile to her face and seeing Scooby even got a giggle. “Oh my goodness look at this handsome fella,” she said, going down to give Scooby a scratch. “Also kind of perfect because it means you could dress up during Halloween as prep and having a rewatch marathon all year!” Blake loved a good supernatural mystery, perhaps because that’s what her life felt like some days.
♡
Shaggy grinned at Blake’s excitement to see his dog. All of his friends were excited to see Scoob and it made him happy, even if sometimes they seemed more excited to see him than Shaggy himself. It also meant he didn’t have to socialize quite as much as long as his pup was there to soak up the attention, which took a weight off of his shoulders. “I’ll have to find someone to watch them all with. I can’t be trusted with scary movies.” Maybe The Ghostbusters didn’t exactly count as scary, but if there was anything related to ghosts in the title, it was probably going to keep him up at night. “Like, poor Scoob is probably gonna eat the remote one day so he doesn’t have to deal with the aftermath when I freak myself out again.”

Now that she asked, it was bizarre for him to realize there was any food out there he hadn’t tried. “Like, I’ve had deep fried Snickers,” he said after a moment, though it was obviously not the same thing. He liked pickles. He liked fried food. He couldn’t imagine why he wouldn’t enjoy shoveling a plate full of the combination into his mouth. “It sounds better than amazing, like, Heaven,” he nodded. “You know me. I’m never gonna turn down food.”
@zoinkshag
“So, you’re telling me you’ve never tried deep fried pickles?” Miriam asked, astounded that Shaggy of all people hadn’t tried such an amazing food. “Dude, you’ve like gotta try them. I know this place. They have the best ones. They’re full spears and not just the little slices.” Just thinking of them made Miriam’s mouth water. “Like, imagine getting baked and just indulging in fried pickles. Like, does that not sound amazing to you?” She laughed softly. “Let me treat you to some. You won’t regret it, I promise.”

Shaggy was easily distracted. Dangerously so. If not for Scoob, he would’ve walked into traffic more than once, and he had walked into more than a few walls in his lifetime. Smoking didn’t exactly help his attention span, but it made being in public easier, so it was a downside he just had to be willing to deal with. He’d gone to the library in search of some home décor inspiration. Daphne was helping him rearrange and redecorate his apartment, but he didn’t want her to be the only one throwing ideas out for his home, when it was his idea. The only issue was... he was clueless. That was where the books came in. He didn’t realize what he’d done until he’d gone halfway back and it clicked that he had a stack tucked under his arm... a stack he’d kind of just walked out with. Groaning internally, he turned and headed back to the library as quickly as his legs would go, hoping someone hadn’t called the police on him, though even he knew that seemed a bit extreme for a few books. “So, like,” he approached the counter nervously, holding out the recently stolen material in his hands, “I need to... pay for these.. or check them out... or however this works.”

Buffy was so excited to be at an Animania party! She had dressed her best and was eager to ring in the New Year in her maybe new home when she bumped into Shaggy and Scooby. It wasn’t her first time bumping into the pair and she was glad to see them because she felt a lot more comfortable with them by her side. She immediately knelt down so that she could scratch Scooby behind the ears and whisper a few kind words to him before looking back up at Shaggy. “Thanks! You look good! And Scooby looks so handsome, don’t you, Scoob?” She gave the dog a little kiss on the head before standing up. “This looks like a real fun party. You want to get a drink?”
♡
“Doesn’t he? My friend Rosie got him the little bowtie.” While more eyes would most likely be on the pooch than him all night, Shaggy was actually relieved that Scoob seemed to take most of the attention. He couldn’t blame anyone for wanting to pet the dog instead of talk to him, and it just meant he didn’t feel like he had to try too hard to be social. Not that tonight had been much of a struggle, he was feeling pretty good in spite of the amount of people. “It does look pretty fun,” he agreed. He wasn’t much of a champagne person, but surely a glass could take the edge off even more. “Like, I was actually just considering it. Great minds think alike.”

There was quite the buzz in the air as midnight approached, and Shaggy was feeling it in his bones. This many people usually made him nervous, and he was, but his self medicating had done a pretty good job at nipping it in the bud. There was enough excitement to outweigh the anxiety, looking forward to what a whole new year would bring. He’d ran into a lot of his friends, and so far, he was having a fun night. “Hey, Blake!” Stepping around a few people, he bounded up to the girl with Scoob in tow. “Did you know the new Ghostbusters comes out in 2023? Apparently in December, but still, like, I think that’s pretty cool.”

He was used to going to most parties alone or with the gang if at all, so when Rosie offered to let him and Scoob tag along with her, Shaggy was surprised. He’d never been great at making friends, and he’d never imagine someone like her would click with him so easily. Surely she had many other people she could’ve gone with, but he was honored to make the cut. “Like, I’m sure you’ve got lots of friends you wanna talk to and stuff,” he stated as they walked through the doors, feeling a little bit of anxiety swelling in his chest as he took in all the faces, “but I think we’ll totally be missing out if we don’t check out the snacks before everyone else heads over there.”

Shaggy always felt out of place at parties, but having Scoob by his side made it more bearable. That, and being stoned out of his mind. Focused a little too hard on the button of his shirt, just thinking about how functional and cool buttons were, he just happened to look up and see Bubbles passing by when he noticed Scooby’s tail wagging at a rapid pace. “Hey,” he greeted her with a grin, feeling more social now that his edible had kicked in. “You look, uh... blue.”
