I’ve binged Sea of Stars for like three days straight and finished and I’m.

Screaming.

It’s such a good game I’m glad I went in completely blind and you guys should too. I’m gonna replay it to get all the things I’ve missed soon.

I started replaying Sea of Stars and a funny detail is that one of the people working at Zenith Academy says that Moraine “finally” took Valere and Zale in for training, which implies that the people around him thought he should have started earlier and was delaying it until he couldn’t anymore.

This is interesting because he does steadfastly hold that Valere and Zale need to be trained once he’s started training them. Considering Valere and Zale are the first people he’s taken in to train (Erlina and Brugaves had already started before Moyara’s death), it’s possible that subconsciously he didn’t want to put more people on the path.

It’s not surprising he fees like Valere and Zale forced his hand can be true - their exploration into the Forbidden Cavern put both their and Garl’s life in danger because they couldn’t wait anymore to start.

As a traumatized person who never wanted the responsibility of Headmaster, he handles raising the future generation poorly. He pushes Erlina and Brugaves hard because he knows they are the last hope as Solstice Warriors and he doesn’t want them to die, he says Valere and Zale need to be trained because he can’t defy the Great Eagle when it’s clear the immortal wants future Solstice Warriors.

But at the same time, the people in Mooncradle thought it was time and that Moraine was holding back. Maybe not consciously, but it’s an interesting line of dialogue to include when much of the opening directly questions Moraine’s decision to train Valere and Zale.

Another Sea of Stars post

One thing I picked up on, most people say Solen and Luana when they speak of "Guardian Gods" or Solstice Warriors who have the potential to become pure light and Ascend, which are decidedly masculine and feminine names, and this traditionally makes sense with the two main characters where Zale is a masculine solstice warrior of the summer/the sun and Valere is a feminine solstice warrior of the winter/moon, but obviously there's Solstice warriors of other genders, like Erlina is a woman and a sun-based Solstice Warrior, and Brugraves is a man and solstice warrior of the moon. At first, I thought it would still be Solen and Luana, like nobody cares about gender, but then I read this dialogue from Romaya?

She says "Solena and Luan" which would suggest that these names change depending on the gender of the solstice warriors that have the potential to ascend. Fascinating detail that can easily go unnoticed.

It's also curious because now I want to know who she's talking about 😂 it could be Erlina and Brugraves, or Moyara (her own sister) and Moraine, since they were partners (they are also apparently the parents of the "Twins" that died fighting the Dweller of Strife). But there's the chance it's also just two unnamed Solstice Warriors that died fighting her also.

just realized………… Sea of Stars has the fat best friend character whose whole thing is about food and being a cook, and not ONCE does it put that character down or make any fat jokes. In fact, Garl is undoubtedly the heart of this game and someone everyone he comes across comes to appreciate and respect.
