Module Assignment - Looking into the future

Hi All, 

In the technology world, everything is constantly changing, 

Coming after 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G, you have all probably heard of 5G, the new generation of technology that will change everything. It is said that this generation, is almost 100 times faster than 4G, providing more opportunities.  from having only brick phones, to smartphones that can stream 4K quality with no lag, it is astonishing to think how far and rapidly the technology industry has evolved.

Now coming back, how can this technology change the future for the better?

5G, enables access to more connections and provides safety, such as operating it in underground subway systems. For instance, the Toronto Transit Comission, recently announced the launching of 5G networks with Rogers as the service provider. Prior to this, there was no access to communications underground, which left TTC users in worry. However, now with the adaptation of 5G, they are able to text and communicate with whoever they want, providing a sense of safety and security. 

Another new technology is Blockchain, which is a form of making data almost impossible to be hacked, or manipulated by storing it. In terms of shaping the future for the better, The implementation of blockchain, allows data to be more secure. According to a study by AAG IT, it is mentioned that 1 out of every 2 users of the Internet in the United States, were impacted by hacking. Looking at the stat, it tells us that hacking and data breaches are extremely common, and dangerous. With utilizing Blockchain, it allows users to keep their data secure and safe, especially for bigger companies that keep the information of consumers.

Moving forward, another new technology is MEMS. From the name, it sounds something complicated, however, in newer modern-day vehicles, these small sensors and microelectromechanical systems is the technology that enables them for automatic parking and self-driving.

Module 10 - Code

The programming language that I worked on in Codecademy was "SQL". In university, I took courses such as ITM500 last year, which was based on SQL language. With lessons from Codecademy, it was really refreshing, and I was also able to learn more skills.

Tech Guard and Disinformation

The concept of disinformation is not something new, people have been falling victim to it for many decades. A Harper's Magazine from 1925 quotes that "Once the news faker obtains access to the press wires all the honest editors alive will not be able to repair the mischief he can do". However, in this day and age with the peak of technology, information spreads more rapidly than ever. It is important to make sure that we absorb the truth, and it is time that we make sure that no one is harmed. 

That's why, I bring you "Tech Guard", a new start-up company where we will fight against disinformation and revolutionize how information is consumed. Users will be able to download our application on Laptops, and mobile phones and can be accessed anytime and anywhere. With the Application, it will be linked to your social media accounts, and alert you in case of any disinformation detected by our AI. 

You are probably wondering how this will work, so let's start off! 

From manipulated content to fake context, Disinformation is both dangerous and harmful, as it can impact the way we look at stuff. 

Now, for instance, one pathway that guides disinformation to spread is bots, which can fluctuate the amount of likes and comments on social media posts. In order to limit these bots, we plan on utilizing Artificial Intelligence driven technologies such as Anomaly detection, and machine learning systems. Anomaly detection systems can determine variations in the activities of an account and suspicious behavior. Through this, we will be able to alert our users if there are fake insights and also report to social media corporations such as Instagram to terminate them.

Module 7 - NOVA Cybersecurity Lab

My experience while playing the NOVA cybersecurity lab game was great, as I got to experience material from the module myself personally. This provided a better understanding of how to go about things with cybersecurity and being safe. For example, one of the challenges was to detect a phishing Google site (screenshot below), it gave 2 pictures and I had to find the difference between the two. In the module, staying Secure section, it mentions "https:// is a secure". When doing this challenge, I used this information to identify which Google site was fake. Another connecting part was to not use similar passwords, and don't be simple with them. One challenge was where you identify the other user's password, and by using Brute force, it seemed easy to do so.

Module 3: Advertising

After surfing through 6 various sites online, such as Twitter, Reddit, and Autotrader, I found AutoTrader to have the highest number of trackers.

The screenshot below, taken from my laptop, shows that while going through Autotrader.ca, there were 20 various sites that were keeping track of me.

Two Instances of Social Media Communication

With the growth and increase in the usage of social media, social media communication has become a big part of our lives. Examples of Social media communication include Instagram's story-sharing feature, as well as LinkedIn posts for a milestone.

Instagram story sharing:

Instagram, a social media giant, allows users to post a "story" that lasts for 24 hours. In the social media world, It is essential for companies/people to build a trademark online, as it can generate more insights and customers. In order to achieve this, there are various strategies that can be used including being involved and being engaged. This story feature allows users to make a personal brand by interacting with its audience. For example, Instagram allows users to do polls and questionnaires on stories. By utilizing this, it enables users to engage with their customers and create a brand online

LinkedIn Post:

LinkedIn is a social media platform that is mainly used by professionals, to connect with others and as well as to search for jobs. The medium provides various qualities, these include Connections, Messaging, and Endorsement. This platform precepts with the idea of Self-Presentation. With posting personal achievements and milestones on LinkedIn, it enables users to present themselves to other professionals.
