I like Midnight because it doesn’t take a Star Trek approach to the future. In a hundred years we’ll be out among the stars going to beautiful planets and meeting every imaginable type of life form, and we’ll still find a way to be xenophobic towards one another over the smallest differences. Unfortunately probably true.

Aliss Fenly, who we know initially lied about being 'clean' to get home, despite knowing the entity was behind her. Who shot her best friend before she could kill her, and let her body lie there for fifteen days untouched mere feet away. Who was the only person left in a facility that had had its security footage tampered with. Who had a suspiciously fresh wound that could have been caused by breaking a mirror with your bare hand. Who went in an airlock to escape with two troopers... and four life signs.

mildly bitter about the master saying "i hate your piece of shit dad" to kate to taunt her instead of the inherently funnier not to mention far more traumatising "i fucked your dad"

What keeps fucking me up the most about the latest Doctor Who episode (The Well) is not that the midnight entity won and escaped, but how it managed to win. The last time, the midnight entity lost because someone sacrificed themselves to keep it trapped. This time, the entity started killing people by following a couple of made-up rules that would guarantee that sooner or later it would manage to escape the planet. Because moving unto the person that killed it's previous host wasn't a rule, it was a choice, and thus, when the time came, it's ticket out. Finally, the time comes... and the Doctor is there. The only living creature that had met the midnight entity before and sabotaged it's plans is there. And... here is the part that fucks me up... the Doctor does what the Doctor does best, he finds a way to win, but he was so focused on finding a loophole in the rules that he never stopped to think about why the midnight entity had started to follow some rules.

Ooh I hadn’t considered the idea of the mirror creating a double, now the multiple monsters (or one monster in two bodies?) idea is compelling me… imagine them trying to escape it again with the knowledge that the only way that they know how to save somebody from it is by doubling its power
I’m seeing a lot of people on here saying that there were multiple midnight entities, but my theory is that there’s only one; the entity never actually left Aliss (why there were 4 entities in the airlock), Belinda and the rest were just being understandably paranoid and thought she had it when she didn’t, the captain killed herself for nothing, and Aliss gave it to Mo once they were on the ship

back when the world was made of diamonds, I met something so vile; it had no face, no name, no self... I've never been so scared in my life

rory refused to leave amy alone in an inpenetrable time stasis chamber for 2000 years not because he wouldnt have otherwise potentially been able to trust an inpenetrable time stasis chamber enough to travel to the point where it opens but because he'd already seen what happens when you make a mistake an then go back and "fix it", when you see the bad thing happen and get back in ur box and come to the rescue of some other reality. when u turn out looking the hero but you knowingly sentenced her to death. he knew if there was one miniscule chance of anything going wrong there would forever be a reality where she was dead or suffering or woke up alone and there was no way in hell he was ever letting it happen. no matter what he says. not again

doctor who criticisms when i make them are inspired, driven by love for the show, objectively correct, constructive. doctor who criticisms when other people make them are heresy, driven by hatred for the show, wrong and bad, poorly thought out and missing the point of the show entirely
