“Dora, the Learner!”
Yes! You read it right! I am your ‘Dora, the learner’ when I entered the world of research. Dora, not just because of my hair but of all my experiences, the first times, workloads, OTs and such were not just unforgettable moments but a new door of learning destinations. Each destination was designed to mold my whole existence as a communication research student in my sintang paaralan, PUP. I was hired under Miss Jeanina Perido, my supervisor for CATI Department. This department showed me what really the quantitative looks like in the field of research. Quantitative research brought me to a place of numbers but it was quite surprising that there was really a lot of numbers; number of respondents, number of interviewers, number of questionnaires, number of tokens, number of contact details, number of data for each of the projects I work with. I was assigned to encode, analyze, re-ask, call, translate and organize answers, survey forms, unclear statements, appointments and papers respectively. It was mesmerizing how I can manage to work in front of a computer for not just 8 hours but more. The workloads and duties which really made me see the beauty of being focus on what you are doing. This stuff brought me to a destination I never thought I would see myself that I am comfortable with. The new people I met, new environment and culture I socialized with and different adjustments I have done for 34 days, carried me to view the real scenery of myself as soon to be employee slash researcher. IPSOS guided me to be on track as I go with the flow of discovering new places of knowledge. This training ground turned out to be a place of education that the four corners of our classroom cannot teach us alone. It was really proven and tested that you could only understand a word or feeling if you experience it. Being able to be part in the field of quantitative research was priceless than the lectures I have read. Plus, the fact that I enjoy working with free hot chocolate and the city view.
And yes, I’m telling you, you read it right, I am Dora in my own ways because I am not just an explorer but a learner when I entered the world of research. Maybe it looks as if corny but when you love something you became creative describing what you really feel and look about yourself. And it’s true, I love research. I love the idea of me, being able to step forward as a researcher in the making.
IPSOS is not just a company. IPSOS is not just a marketing research firm that can be found at the 14th floor of One Corporate Centre. IPSOS is far more than that. For me, it is a place of learning.

First and going to be the last duty for this month! Sad but feeling accomplished. I requested already my final DTR and pooft! I already completed the 200 hours (more than 200 hours already). My last task was to prepare the GCs and letter of appreciation for the token needed to be sent for today. I arranged the receipts for reimbursement of CATI department from April up to now for each project. Lastly, I settled all the time keeping and over time forms to be signed by our supervisor. We talked for just some little good byes to each other. Whoooooaw!!! I’ll miss this place!!!

Stormy days and thesis cramming moments… so I was back here after 12 years (joke), for just a week after. Another project I tallied per segment, interviewer and dates. I recheck the files whether the completed call sheets were back checked and recorded.

5th day for the new month! Since the project got higher quota per month, I helped CATI interviewers to find potential and ready to be surveyed respondents within the 4th and 5th week lists. I assigned new field interviewer for those who are absent today.

ME: I had to work with the questionnaires with incomplete data. I checked whether if its void or not through verification on incomplete or continuation survey answers of the respondents. I had to check emails whether they sent it to our supervisor all the concerns I gave for the interviewer.

Renamed audio working files all over again. From the audio files, folders of each CATI interviewer per month/week/day up to transferring it to client’s copy. The renamed audio files were validated ad verified.

From CATI to QC department! Calls from the new project were monitored and validated through re-checking whether the interviewer completed the survey questionnaire with corresponding name of the participant and correct pronunciation of the scales. Then, I renamed the audio working files right after validation. I had to work late just to finalize all the files and excuse myself at the same time for tomorrow’s D-day!

Back to loading station. However, I was assigned also to record the load of each of the interviewer today. I even monitored the spare sims among those sims that cannot call because of the call barring. My job today will be needed for the reimbursement of expenses of CATI Department.
