Climbing Festival of Hmong 

In the south eastern of GuiZhou province in China, there is a climbing festival of hmong bag held on March of each year. At that time the younger will come together and climb on the mountain, through this chance, they can find out their lovers easily. Beside climbing, there are also other activities as well now, including singing songs, fighting birds, horse racing, playing basketball and tug-of-war.

 Actually, many many years ago, there was an old saying about it.

 One young fellow, named Sheng,  lived there with his old mother in poor, due to the bad living surrounding, no any young girl would like to marry to him. He was so sad. Actually, he was a worker, served for one rich family in the village.

 Mei is one of the daughter of this rich family. Her parents required her to marry to one man, who was so rich and worked in the government office. But Mei disagree it and actually, she and Sheng had been dropped into love for a long time. In order to block these lovers, Mei’s parents netsuke locked her into her house and rejected her on any meeting.

 One day, Mei found out a new way to escape. She played as a cow and rushed out of house, by covering one piece of cowhide and wearing two cow corns. This time, Sheng and Mei met together, they are so appreciated and can not say any thing, except only two lines of tears. Just after two hours, Mei’s parents ran after them and stuck them by one long bamboo. Two lovers were beat heavily and lost their lives finally.

 In order to memorize these two lovers, the villagers buried them in one mountain and named it as Niu-Chiao-P'o (The hillside of cow corn). From then on, the Hmong younger would come together and celebrate the climbing festival.

Lusheng Festival of Hmong at Zouxi of China

Lusheng is one of musical instrument of China at Zouxi of Guizhou provoice, and there is an old saying about Lusheng festival as well.

Many year ago, there was a Hmong girl, named Ahwang. shoulder bag She is so beautiful and versatile on arts, including dancing very well and had a wonderful voice, with thrillingly clear top notes. So, there are many young boys love her too. 

At the same time, one monster would like to marry Ahwang as well. But because he do harm to the peoples always, the parents of Ahwang wouldn’t like him and didn’t agree it of course. So, the monster seized Ahwang and forced her to marry to him. Many villagers come out and would like to rescue her. But the monster used magic arts and no one can win him.

 At that time, one younger boy, named Maosha , passed the village and heard about it. He was a best hunter and he was skillful on arrows. So, he shot arrows to the monster immediately and aimed to his throat. The arrows flied to the monster and inserted into his throat. Suddenly, red blood was burst out and the monster died. So Maosha rescued Ahwang and she was released now. Then Maosha went on the way to be back and disappeared suddenly. 

When Ahwang knew that and she was so admired Maosha. She would like Netsuke to meet him again but no one knew where he was. In order to get more news of Maosha, the villagers organized LuSheng festival at 18th of May at Lunar calendar at China and invited many other people from other areas to attend it. 

At this time, Ahwang met Maosha again and they fell in love with each other at once. 

So, Lusheng Festival is a special date to celebrate the bumper harvest and give good chance for the younger to find their lovers too.

Dragon boat festival of Hmong (Miaozu in China)

Dragon boat festival is one of the important national activities by Hmong at China. It is held on 24th to 27th of May in Luna calendar and it would be in June of each year for the western. 

There is an old saying that the dragon king (the god of rain in Chinese Methology) was ordered to make the rainfalls in drought areas. backpack But because drank to much of wine, dragon king made a mistake and no rains in that areas, but heavy rains in flood areas instead. Then this lead to many people lose their families heavily. 

After got this news, the heaven emperor was so angry and ordered the god of thunder to cut dragon king into nine pieces immediately, then threw them into the river. 

From then on, in order to pray for rains in Miaozu area, the hmongs will make dragon boats, which was connected by the nine pieces of dragon king’s body individually. Then, they will row the boats on the Qingjiang river at this festival. Due to the people’s godliness, the emperor made dragon king to relive again.

 So, dragon boat festival of miao is a special date to celebrate the reliving of dragon king.
