On August 11th, it was reported that Uruguayan racing driver Matilde Itzcovich passed away. Local media reported that she took her own life at just 16 years of age.

Child of a former rally driver, she showed interest in motorsport at 13 years old. In 2024, Matilde became the first Uruguayan to compete in ROK Cup Italia in the Super Rock Senior category. A year before that she had competed in the FIA OK-N Karting Championship, once again becoming the first Uruguayan to do so.

This year, Matilde competed in the Champions of the Future Academy Programme and, after impressive performances, locally and on the international stage, she was in consideration for the F1 Academy Rookie Test set to take place this year.

This coming racing event of the Argentinian Karting Championship is set to have the name "Grand Prix Homenaje a Matilde Itzcovich" in her memory.
