My reaction to romance is a lot like my reaction to moths. I can admire it from afar and say ‘hey, that looks cool!’ but if it tries to come near me I start screaming and flapping my arms.

This captures my experience beautifully. I have been in love with love for as long as I can remember, and I was devastated to find that it wasn’t meant to be
Happy Valentines day everyone! I decided to make a comic about something I’ve wanted to talk about for a long time, which was my relationship with romance while being on the Aromantic spectrum. Sorry for the length, enjoy!

me: i want a significant other
person: but you're aromantic!
me: by significant other i mean a person i care about deeply and who i can trust with my life and watch movies with and live in a nice apartment one day with cute cat decorations on the shelves and get hugs from if i need them and go shopping with a significant other doesn't need to be inherently romantic

For the longest time, I didn’t have the words to describe my “crushes” to my friends. Now I know they were squishes!

This took me a long time to learn. So many times we look to others to give us the kind of love that we can only give ourselves.

Every time a post on queerplatonic relationships makes its way around tumblr, the comments are inevitably filled with a flood of “IT’S CALLED FRIENDSHIP” or “WHY DO YOU NEED A WORD FOR THIS.”
Do you honestly think society regards friendship as an acceptable substitute for romance and marriage? The thing is, most aros would LOVE if it could just be called friendship.
Because that would mean a world where:
Friendships are considered equal to or sometimes *SHOCK HORROR* more important than romantic relationships. This is not an exceptional occurrence.
Romantic partners know that they might not be their datemate’s Most Important Person and are not bothered by this.
People commonly plan major life events around their friends up to and including housing, finances, employment, ect.
It is common for people to be in their 30s, 40s, 50s, hell even old age having lived with friends that entire time and no one has ever asked them why they’re not married.
It is common for people to have a committed lifelong partnership with their friend and no one bats an eye.
Having a life friend is considered something that can be regarded as equally close to marriage. It is also taken just as seriously.
Until the day that those are true, friendship is unfortunately not an accurate word to convey the types of relationships we’re talking about.

I wish there were more discussion about friendship breakups and how hard they are. Romantic breakups have songs, movies, cultural weight. You can talk about breaking up with a significant other on social media and expect sympathy. Nobody talks about breaking up with friends.
I know that’s because of amatonormativity and how romantic relationships are seen as ‘more important’ than friendship. Which is bullshit. We need to talk more about the importance of friendship and how much it hurts when suddenly someone you thought you knew and trusted decides you’re no longer an important part of their life.
This obviously doesn’t just apply to arospec people. It just been on my mind a lot recently and I thought it’s something aro people could really relate to.

My Asexual Story, 2018.
Another little autobiographical comic I whipped together (this was drawn in like two hours tops so don’t judge the drawings lmao). To clarify, I am in a happy long-term committed relationship with a non-ace girl and we’re both very happy with our relationship, and I have never had bad experiences with relationships because of my asexuality. Being ace isn’t a big deal to me - I barely think about it - but asexuality is something that a lot of people seem to have trouble fully understanding, so I wanted to take some time to describe it the way I see it in my life and from my perspective. Every story is different - here’s mine.

Ace characters in fiction: Angst and Drama and What Am I? or else Totally Know What I’m Doing
Me, irl: what is sexual attraction, I don’t understand. Is this sexual attraction? Oh, nope. Is this sexual attraction? Nope. Welp. Whatever, doesn’t matter. Oh hey, you’re pretty! (Is this sexual attraction?)
