Hunter's Journal #19: Situational Unawareness, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Leave The Bounty
I woke up this morning from a nightmare where hitting heads was the only way to survive, so I headed to Colorado to curb the itch that was growing inside of me. Part of me thinks I should be worried about that, another is pretty sure it's fine.
The Gulch was something else today. Once again I wore my lucky outfit of the Perchta, and oh boy did that ever come through. I started off the bat at Scrapbeak's lair in Greystone, took him out without anyone coming in to interrupt me, and then got a weird feeling, so I left without the bounty. This was great for me later.
I went on a little expedition around the mine to find clues for the second contract, The Assassin. I kept getting turned around, and when I finally got back on track, it took me right into a grunt. No big deal, usually, but that weird feeling came up and I was on edge, so I did something odd. I crouched down. Why would I do that? I'd never done it before.
I didn't have time to question it as a shot rang out behind me, and the grunt got blown away. I never saw the hunter trying to remove me from this mortal coil, I needed to leave that area. I ran. I expected the hunter to give chase, but as the minutes ticked by, and nothing came after me, I decided to leave.
My new path took me to a hill overlooking Machine Gorge where, coincidentally, the hunter carrying the Scrapbeak bounty was holding out. Apparently having been chased there by another team.
I got another feeling, and held up while he began to move, heading towards the road. I kept my dark sight up at first, watching where he was going. I realized quickly he was heading right to me, and as he passed under a covered bridge, I looked him in the eye and squeezed the trigger of my Krag. He went down dead-center of the bridge, and the token remained there, waiting for the next hunter to grab it.
I got another feeling, and decided to keep waiting, and sure enough another team arrived on the scene, wanting my token. Well, I watched them approach. One was bold about it, the other was more cautious... Slightly.
Being bold gets you killed.
So does not looking around. The carrier was on a bridge with no monsters or other bodies around, and nobody thought, "Something had to kill this person." It's fine, though. Easy kills for me. The first of the pair went down easy while checking their new dark sight.
The second panicked a bit when I shot her in the chest.
You'd think 7.62 in the chest would kill someone pretty well, but apparently not. Even with a follow-up shot in the hip, the girl kept going. Titanium skin bs. She dove for cover under the bridge, which would have been a smart choice if the river wasn't swarming with water devils. I heard her death cry, and I gotta admit, I chuckled.
Anyway, I grabbed the bounty, looted some unfortunate souls, and left the same way I came in.
Couldn't have been a better hunt.

Anyone who says the police and military are the only people that should have guns in the US need to take both of these cases in. Really fuckin get into it. You really want this level of incompetence to be the ONLY thing dealing with crime in any way?
the nypd doing a mass shooting over a $2.90 fare evasion truly is the inevitable endpoint of the police as an institution and also just the encapsulation of how everything we're fighting is all the same fucking thing at its core. nypd kkk idf you're all the same.

Hunter's Journal #18: Hunters Hunted Hunting Hunters
I tried to run a couple of missions with a different friend of mine today. He's got a different philosophy than us, very much a 'search and destroy' hunter instead of the scavenger missions we tend to gravitate towards. I welcome the change, and we may be lucky that it worked.
We were approaching the mine to battle the assassin. Someone took out the spider already, so we were left with bug boi. Gunfire erupted as we arrived at the compound, two teams duking it out, the winner gets the assassin. And us, it turned out, as my one friend started the banishing.
"Bonk... Bonk..." My friend brought his slugger with him, they didn't see it coming. I heard it though. The other team ran into his bat face first. At least two of them did, the third opted to stay outside and wait for us to show our faces. He wasn't ready when we did.
As an aside, stalker Beatles are hilarious as recon units.
We tracked this guy through the woodland like dogs. He got a shot or two on us, we got more on him, but he refused to go down. That tenacity did not translate to him pushing us. In the end, we won the day, and he has a bad story to share with his friends.

Hunter's Journal #17: Coming Back For More
Word came from a friend of mine in Colorado, the corruption spread to them. Guess I gotta help them out now. The Gulch is a nice place, I would have liked to visit before everything went to hell, but alas...
I partnered up with a friend of mine and headed out. Didn't take 2 steps before we found a spider. We made quick work of it using a bat and my Dolch. Instead of waiting for the banish we headed to a caravan for a resupply. Along the way, I was hearing gunfire and dogs. Other hunters, of course. I knew something was going down.
We made it to the supply cart, just as another hunter ran up. I didn't have time to aim, and I didn't have to. One bullet from my Mako, and the boy went down quick. He carried a good buck on him too.
After that take down, we did our business at the caravan and headed back to the boss lair. Someone took one of our bounties while we were resupplying, so we may as well have grabbed what we could and dipped.
Wouldn't ya know it, just as we were coming up on the lair, someone else grabbed the token. We gave chase, but they still managed to slip away at the last second.
Aw well, overall it was a good run. A little luck, and a bit of rust shaken off. We killed the assassin in a later match, and made off with both tokens then, so it made up for it.

There's part of myself that's missing, as if it were left behind, buried, lost to time. A vital part, one that I can't live without, yet can't even begin to know what it is. I'm incomplete, broken, one half of a person that shouldn't be here. Somebody please help me.

I see things sometimes that are cute or happy, and it hurts me in a way that I forgot I could hurt, like I've been stabbed and left alone in a hole. Is there a word for this? Like, I genuinely don't want to exist when I feel like this.

I know, I know, gatekeeping the outdoors, that's supposedly bad, right, but I think if you show up to do a hike and you brought a portable speaker with you to play music while you hike, I think, like hear me out, there should be a gate, and someone at the gate should keep you from doing the hike.

Hunter's Journal #16
Who Can You Trust But You?
A fight broke out at Weeping Stone Mill today, the butcher was doing his thing, and I, in my infinite wisdom, did not rush in with a sniper Krag and a dream.
It really pays to wait more often than not.
I was trying to find a good perch when I heard footsteps coming from the Southeast. One hunter, but they started firing as soon as they arrived.
I didn't feel like dying, so I let him put some rounds down range, and then get rushed and blown up with a massive amount of grenades.
God bless America.
After that, the bayou was eerily calm, nobody was moving, nobody was shooting, for ten minutes the world stood still.
Then someone finally broke the silence and took the Butcher down. I wanted to head the bounty carriers off between Weeping Stone and Kingsnake.
Well, I was about to reach the extract, set up an ambush, when I turned around and saw the team running at me. They didn't see me at first, the second teammate must have had some of his mojo still, because he turned to face me down the barrel of my gun at 30 yards.
His teammate tried to get me, but the best shot he got on me was a shoulder wound.
Turns out a Krag to the stomach and a hive bomb will drain morale very quickly.
He ran, leaving his teammate, and the bounty to me.
What a hero.
Funny enough, if he'd have pushed me, I would have had a hail mary of a shot to survive.

The Roads Aren't Safe
This is a lesson I've been struggling to force myself to learn. There's no cover, no concealment, and anyone can see you as you chase down some hunters with a loudass gun!
I heard a gunfight basically since the hunt began. I was at Wolfshead, minding my business, and the clue phased out everywhere except where the gunshots were coming from.
Lucky me...
So, I trail behind, assuming they'd wear each other out. Fancy way to say that I was in no hurry. They chase each other all the way to Windy Run before the solo hunter manages to down her pursuers at the gates, their bodies laying limp on the road.
I got the chance to watch her admire her kill through my scope, she had such a relieved smile on her face, and that attitude just doesn't bode well on the Bayou.
She didn't feel it; I made it very quick. One tap to the temple form 50 yards and she was out like a light.
From Windy Run, the clues led me north to Salter's Pork. Right next to the bounty carriers at Blanc. I had to be quick, and managed to stick Scrappy with a spike grenade, but missed with the second one.
Damn adrenaline got me, but I finished the bird off with poison and his stupid ass that set himself on fire again. I swear this bird hurt himself more than me.
Things were uneventful. The bounty carriers decided to leave, so it was just me in an empty hunting ground to explore.
Also I finished the Killian's Chance job, fuck that piece of trash gun.

Killian's Chance is fucking trash!
I got the order 2 weeks ago. Thought it would be easy! Just hurt some dudes with Killian's Chance! Cake, right?
Holy shit fuck this gun! I had to grind to get it by shooting hives and armoreds, which is impossible to do when some dickweed with a LeMat walks up behind me and blows my back out in a bad way!
I finally get the gun and it shoots fucking ping pong balls! I am LIVID at this fucking questline, but orders are orders. Only 800 more damage to go...
