that moment when I see a post or fic that's so different from how I perceive that specific character or universe that it shocks me out of the content of the post/fic entirely
Tumblr media
no hate to other interpretations; I just get shocked, that's all

These two, omg.
Okay, but we all talk about the big moments when it comes to Chuuya and Dazai’s trust in each other (Corruption, Dead Apple both during the DHC conflict and facing the singularity dragon, the fights against both Rimbaud and later Verlaine even when Chuuya said he doesn’t trust Dazai), but it’s in the little moments too.
The bickering, the way they know exactly how to provoke each other and get under the other’s skin, the teasing. It shows how well they know each other even after the 4 year separation and how they’re still the same when it comes to them. When it comes to Soukoku.
But what gets me is this:
Tumblr media
Dazai asked for Chuuya’s knife.
And Chuuya — rightfully suspicious, guarded, supposedly untrusting to Dazai, who claims to hate him and wishes to get away from him ASAP — immediately went to hand it to him.
Chuuya was going to just hand over his knife to Dazai.
Just like, “Oh, okay.”
Chuuya, who’s been the most adamant that they are no longer partners.
Chuuya, who acknowledges the gap between four years ago and now and how things have changed.
Chuuya, who makes it clear that Dazai is an enemy even if they have to work together now.
That Chuuya was going to nonchalantly and with no hesitation hand over a weapon to Dazai aka an enemy.
It just blows my mind that Chuuya didn’t even seem to care about that because — even though he doesn’t want to admit it and even though Corruption and its lead-up were the biggest indicators of how he really feels for Dazai — he still trusts him.
And he doesn’t feel like his presence is a threat.
Because yes, Dazai managed to pickpocket it off Chuuya and he’s undoubtedly skilled in that sort of thing, but I’m pretty sure if literally anyone else tried reaching into Chuuya’s coat to try stealing it, the culprit would be flat on the ground one way or another.
But Dazai managed to get close enough to take it.
And it just never registered as a possible threat to Chuuya.
These two drive me up the wall.

Why is getting sick literally the worst thing ever. It only ever happens whenever I'm super busy too. You will not believe the amount of things I missed because my body decided it would be a good time to have a fever rn.

Why is it that Yunmeng Jiang only takes care of ghostly beings when someone has already died? Is this even canon?

I’ve been thinking of this concept for a while now. It makes a lot of sense, but I wonder how it would work if they found out about themselves being past husbands, but not Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky and Peerless Cucumber.

Wen Ruohan
In his youth, Wen Ruohan used to be like Wei Wuxian: he flirted with any pretty maiden that came across his path, would break the rules, and was known to be a very exceptional cultivator. He was also the heir of the Wen Sect.
He had an older sister, but she wasn't the heir. In Qishan, women could do everything a man could, with no prejudice, but they couldn't rule. So Wen Ruohan became the sect heir, and his sister was left her freedom.
He hated it. Everything about the Wen Sect seemed like a golden cage, a chain to hold him down. But he couldn't run away; he couldn't do anything really.
When Wen Ruohan was a young boy, he used to have this dream of making the Wen Sect a better place. Make it seem like less of a gilded cage. He was very focused towards that goal, so motivated to make it happen.
And then he fell in love. It felt like he was finally living, as if the previous years in his life were just him existing, not living. Cloud Recesses, he thought, was truly a place to meet those you'd spend your entire life with. He saw Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze, Lan Yueqing (a Lan cousin) and Zhang Fengxin (a guest disciple), and many others. They were all meeting, and they were all falling in love.
Then, his father found out. His father found out about his goal, the one he fell in love with, and he crushed both. Wen Ruohan will never know what pushed him over the edge, the one he fell in love with dying or his dream getting denounced and thrown in his face.
He was forced to marry a woman he could never look at, and his drive burned down with the ashes of the sect that wore black and white. He felt like life stopped for him, but time continued anyways.
He took on the title of Sect Leader Wen. His wife gave birth to his heir. Another woman, someone of unknown origin, gave birth to his second son. He hated both, but one was talented. So he made sure they grow up healthy, knowing the power they hold, but never fully ignorant of the cage they've been kept in.
He visited the Yiling Burial Mound, one day. He wasn't sure what he expected to find, and he didn't know if he found anything at all. But something changed, something in the way he acted, something in the way he thought.
He started to amass power, for a reason he didn't know. He started to pressure the other clans, for what reason? He didn't know. He continued through life, abusing his power, doing actions unthinkable. He didn't know why, didn't know the reason why he did. He just did it.
On the day he died, Wen Ruohan stopped for a second. It's the first time in years that he's stopped. He still didn't know the reason why he did this, still didn't know what happened in the Burial Mounds, but he knew one thing: he's so very tired. He shoved it away and kept going.
He stepped out of his palace for the last time that day, with no reason and no idea what, and he felt a sense of satisfaction when he saw the sword stab through him from behind.
For the first time in a very long time, Wen Ruohan felt as though he'd accomplished something.
-
When he closed his eyes for the last time, he wondered if everything could've been avoided if he took his mother's offer to run away, to live in the countryside as commoners.
If everything could've been avoided if he listened to the small voice in his head that told him. "Leave."
He'd never know, because he never did take that offer, never listened to that small voice in his head. Always trying to lure him into his deepest desires, to do what he wanted.

The Cloud Recesses Study Arc will always be my favorite. The nostalgia it gives me is immense. From the moment Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian meet to the interactions with the CR trio is absolutely perfect. It makes me so happy to see them so happy, unburdened.
Post-canon Wangxian is amazing, but CR Wangxian gives me a sense of fulfillment.

Lan Wangji writes
Lan Wangji loved poetry and writing. He's not good at speaking, making his mouth say the words he wants, but he's so good at writing what he wants to. The words are so easily written on paper but so hard to say with his voice. In the end, that's how he dealt with his feelings, too.
There are countless poems and stories written by him about Wei Wuxian. All with the same meaning, all written with the same love. Some are about them, and the reality they live in. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, both geniuses, prodigies, until war came and one was known for their righteousness and the other infamous for their unorthodox method. Then, there are the other stories and poems. About a world where they were simple farmers, stylists, commoners. A life where they didn't have to worry about Sect Politics and Cultivations and ghosts and Demonic Cultivation. A world where the one who falls is not a man named Lan Wangji but a more outgoing stranger, someone who could communicate, someone who could have been with Wei Wuxian. These stories vary, until, Wei Wuxian was finally gone, and there was no more Lan Wangji. There was only Wei Wuxian, smiling, happy, alive.
What Lan Wangji would give to have this one story be the one that was reality.
Then, he starts to write letters. Perhaps, once a month, once a year; there are many. All addressed to the same person, but none are sent. He writes about everything and nothing. Lan Wangji writes about A-Yuan, the comb he saw that reminded him of Wei Wuxian, about the stories that Wei Wuxian would have laughed at had he been alive to hear it, about Lotus Pier, about the Yunmeng Jiang Sect, about Lan Wangji's walk in Caiyi, the new night-hunt he had just went on, Lan Wangji's favorite color, what he ate that morning, what he had thought.
Instead of playing inquiry, he chose to write letters; there was no need to disturb Wei Wuxian when he was already in peace with music, asking the most pointless questions he no longer had the right to ask.
In this reality, Wei Wuxian never comes back, but Lan Wangji continues to write anyways. He wishes that, in another reality, Wei Wuxian had been able to achieve the happy ending he deserved.
Years later, Lan Wangji, the renowned Hanguang-jun, dies before living for even half a century. A-Yuan, now Lan Sizhui, finds three slips of paper on his desk when he hears the news of his father's death. It is a letter, a poem, and a story.
A letter for him, telling him of his family, his heritage, his past, of how much his father loved him, of his father before his father, of his Aunt Qing, his Uncle Ning, Granny Popo. Everything; everyone.
A poem that wrote of his journey growing and how it looked in his father's eyes. Of a boy with big round silver eyes hugging his legs, to a crying child hidden into a hollow tree, to when he received his ribbon, his naming ceremony, to when he first received his sword, to his first night-hunt, to the last time they saw each other. It contained a feeling of nostalgia, fondness, and contentment.
A story that tells of two young men, one with gold eyes and another silver, meeting on a rooftop with a jar of wine, continuing until it tells of one falling, another living, and a child that grew into a fine young man; the last living legacy of both.
"I'm proud of you, A-Yuan. And I'm sorry." - Your baba, Lan Wangji
Sizhui didn't know what he was apologizing for, and to his credit, neither did Lan Wangji. Perhaps it was to apologize for not being able to see him fall in love, get married, or form a family. Perhaps it was to apologize for not being able to say such things to him in person. Perhaps it was to apologize for leaving him in Yiling that day, for not doing more to save his family. Perhaps it was to apologize for hiding so much from him.
In the end, it didn't matter, because Sizhui still felt sad. He lost his father, and the only thing left were words on paper, written in his father's calligraphy, and faint descriptions of a time where had more than just a father, an uncle, a granduncle, and Jingyi.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poor Sizhui. To make it a bit better: He finds Wen Ning and frees him, giving him back his consciousness. Later, when Sizhui dies, Wen Ning dies with him, for the last time.
The idea of Lan Wangji using writing as a way of expressing his emotions makes me smile. Please tell me if anyone has had any ideas similar to this, I very much love this concept.

The Chaos of the Previous Generation
I'm very much aware half of this probably doesn't make sense. This is also an AU because it doesn't fit canon.
Jiang Fengmian never loved Cangse Sanren. He thought she was nice but mostly hung out with her because of the benefits of having a connection with a disciple of an immortal.
Yu Ziyuan and Cangse Sanren actually used to get along, at least, until Yu Ziyuan fell in love and the time Jiang Fengmian took to try and get close to Cangse Sanren started to irritate her.
Jiang Fengmian used to be less cowardly, a good sect heir, but Yu Ziyuan absolutely destroyed that during their marriage.
Wei Changze was the IT-boy of their generation he just didn't know it.
Cangse Sanren and Madam Lan (who I will be naming Wu Xi, courtesy name Yufei, which came from this post.) fell in love in Cloud Recesses and bonded over being rogue cultivators/not belonging to any sect and, therefore, distanced from most of the other disciples.
Wei Changze and Lan Qiren got along well. Wei Changze was a calm, intelligent man and complimented the scholarly attitude of Lan Qiren perfectly, who always wanted to learn more.
Wei Changze and Lan Qiren would spend hours discussing and debating over different topics, which led to numerous leaps in their knowledge and practical cultivation.
Qingheng-jun, who I don't have a name for, was engaged to Wen Ruohan.
Wen Ruohan used to be a nice young man, as flirty as Wei Wuxian was, though a bit more arrogant.
The engagement was a surprise to hear, since cut-sleeve marriages were rare and both of them were heirs.
A month before the wedding, however, the monthly corresponds of Qingheng-jun and Wen Ruohan suddenly stopped. The next thing everyone knew the engagement was off, Qingheng-jun married Wu Yufei (Madam Lan), and Wen Ruohan became Wen-zhongzhu.
Cangse Sanren and Wu Yufei became sworn sisters, but their love died out, both losing hope. They never saw each other again, after that.
Lan Qiren and Wei Changze had a huge falling out.
Lan Qiren had fallen for Wei Changze, but Wei Changze never let himself feel such feelings for the Lan-er-gongzi of the Lan Sect, so Lan Qiren was left heartbroken.
Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian got married, happy.
Wei Changze attends the wedding and meets Cangse Sanren, who was invited as well.
They both spend time together and become quite close.
Cangse Sanren stays to spend more time with Wei Changze, who is the head disciple of the Jiang Sect and cannot accompany Cangse Sanren on her travels, who doesn't want to be alone.
Cangse Sanren's presence leads Yu Ziyuan to have fits of jealousy, not knowing the real reason Cangse Sanren was staying, and that's when the fights between Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan start.
Slowly, feelings develop between Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze the more time they spend around each other.
Wu Yufei and Qingheng-jun have their first child, Lan Huan.
Cangse Sanren doesn't visit despite the invite Wu Yufei sends her and instead sends a gift with a small note saying "For the little Lan."
Wei Changze accompanies Jiang Fengmian in visiting new Lan heir.
Cangse Sanren is left in Lotus Pier with Yu Ziyuan; there is an argument, but nothing physical, Yu Ziyuan would never dream of winning against Cangse Sanren, and Cangse Sanren packs to leave.
Wei Changze arrives with Jiang Fengmian and finds out about what happened; he follows Cangse Sanren, leaving a small clarity bell in his room, which Jiang Fengmian later finds.
Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze get married.
Years later, Cangse Sanren, Wei Changze, and Wu Yufei are dead.
Lan Qiren sees a young boy almost a carbon copy of the one he fell in love with and can't help but feel sorrow. The same boy attempts to argue with him during lectures, he's reminded of when he and Wei Changze used to debate, used to be friends, and chases the boy out.
Wen Ruohan, betrayed by Qingheng-jun, pushes everyone away and builds power in an attempt to stop himself from getting hurt in such a way again. It doesn't work.
Jiang Fengmian is a shadow of his old self and Yu Ziyuan witnesses the qualities of him that she fell in love with slowly disappear; she continues to love him, still.

things “petty legend” Lan Wangji probably most definitely did after wwx died
had dizi players perform in any banquet he has a hand in organizing, just to see the sect leaders sqirm with terrifying memories of chenqing
taught the lan deciples a lot of and about wwx inventions so they’d grow up admiring him
will never let anyone forget or skip over the vital role wwx played in the sunshot campaign, killing wen chao, wen zhuliu, aiding in killing wen rouhan, saving literally all their lives at nightless city that one time, killing the xanwu of slaughter
comment pointedly on how useful and convenient any tool wwx invented is when he sees anyone involved in wwx death use it (or, more likely just stares at it until they flinch)
uses bunches of wwx talismans in front of jiang cheng on purpose
lowkey does the “my kid is better than urs” thing w sizhui and jin ling, even if he doesn’t say it out loud
looks the people he fought at nightless city straight in the eyes at official functions and never apologizes
in conclusion: under layers of crushing sadness lwj is still salty over his bf’s wrongful death and will never let anyone forget it. we stan a petty king

MXY!WWX in the Jin Sect
Say Mo Xuanyu is ~17 years old. He hasn't been kicked out of the Jin Sect, there are no rumors about him harassing or taking an interest in his brother, but he's still being bullied, still being looked down upon, because he's the son of a servant.
Nie Huaisang finds an opportunity then. Mo Xuanyu still ends up bringing Wei Wuxian back, he ends up still being disgraced, but he's not been kicked out. And Wei Wuxian is brought back as the half-brother of the Jin Sect Leader; he's brought back and forced to wear Jin gold.
It goes like this:
Wei Wuxian opens his eyes to a room filled with gold, cuts on his wrist, and a small piece of parchment.
The tides change as the bastard child of Jin Guangshan, the son of a servant, Mo Xuanyu, suddenly changes his approach. He's no longer meek, no longer easy to bully. Instead, he fights back, he's confident, he's smart.
Wei Wuxian builds a reputation in Koi Tower as a genius. He manages to weave through the snakes in Koi Tower and become a respected and essential member of the Jin Sect.
Jin Guangyao suddenly has a hard time smiling as he struggles to find a way to make Mo Xuanyu leave. Mo Xuanyu who has as much of a right to the Jin Sect Leader Position as he does. Mo Xuanyu who is swaying the entirety of Koi Tower to his side.
Jin Ling suddenly has a much more involved uncle in the form of Wei Wuxian. Little Jin Ling who is ~4 years old, who has an uncle only in the form of a man who never learned to be soft, who has an uncle in the form of a man who only ever learned to wear masks and smile. Little Jin Ling who now has an uncle who can tell him stories about his parents, who can spend time with him because he's not a sect leader. He's delighted.
Nie Huaisang who is delighted to have his plans moved forward. Nie Huaisang who was too impatient to wait and started his plans years ahead of what he originally planned because he saw an opportunity. Nie Huaisang who managed to get his revenge.
Wei Wuxian who is suddenly being told that he'll be Jin sect leader, after the events of Jin Guangyao's downfall.
Wei Wuxian who still believes that someone in Koi Tower killed his son becomes Jin Sect Leader.
Koi Tower is torn down and rebuilt.
Wei Wuxian meets Lan Wangji, who just left seclusion, during the celebratory banquet of his ascension.
They find Wen Ning in the dungeons of Koi Tower.
Lan Wangji finds out.
The cultivation world watches in shock as Lan Wangji, Hanguang-jun, the perfect Lan, marries Mo Xuanyu (who is already an adult. Mo Xuanyu (or his body) is around 20-21 years old when they finally get married).
Second Lady Mo hears and is delighted her son was able to gain such a high position - exactly as her expectations for him.
Second Lady Mo visits Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian remembers a note in the small piece of parchment stating the horrid behavior Second Lady Mo had done with each years that went by without Jin Guangshan ever making an appearance.
He turns her away before she could even step through the gates.
Wei Wuxian builds a talisman that can teleport long distances just so Lan Wangji can travel between Cloud Recesses and Koi Tower as easily as possible.
Wei Wuxian decides to sell it. The cultivation world advances forward.
Wei Wuxian meets Lan Yuan. Formerly Wen Yuan, his son. He cries.
Wen Ning meets the last of his family.
Lan Yuan and Jin Ling grow up with loving parental figures (because there is no way Wei Wuxian doesn't end up as a parental figure for Jin Ling, at least a little) in the form of three sect leaders, multiple uncles (and one aunt), and two prodigies.
Jin Ling doesn't grow up alone; Lan Yuan doesn't grow up with his former family being hidden from him. They have each other, this time around.
Lan Yuan becomes Lan Sizhui ("Sizhui" for the family he lost); he goes on his first night-hunt to Mo manor.
He hears rumors about Second Lady Mo who continues to haunt the halls of Mo Manor despite having died years ago.
He completes the night-hunt.
The cultivation world finds out about Wei Wuxian.
They stay silent.
Who would try and go against the Jin Sect Leader, Hanguang-jun's husband, and the Nie Sect Leader's close friend?
Xue Yang never gets a chance to take advantage of Xiao Xingchen's kindness.
Lan Sizhui, Ouyang Zizhen, Jin Ling, and Lan Jingyi have been friends since the moment they met each other all those years ago.
For the Second Lady Mo part. Look at it this way, Second Lady Mo was abandoned by Jin Guangshan but still believed that he would come back. With around ~10 years passing without a word from him, she'd be anxious, maybe even angry. Who would she turn her anger to? Mo Xuanyu. The product of her relationship with Jin Guangshan. What would she say?
"Why aren't you good enough?"
"You're the reason he won't come back anymore."
"You're a disappointment. Your father knew, that's why he left."
That's what she would do. I think anyways. Maybe Second Lady Mo was the nicest person in the world, gullible and naive because she was brainwashed to believe in the "one and only." But she must've heard the rumors. She must've heard about a sect leader who slept around and never took responsibility. She was the daughter of a servant, an illegitimate child in the Mo family. Mo Xuanyu was probably her ticket to luxury, in her mind.
I'm not entirely sure the part about Second Lady Mo makes sense, even with the explanation, but I'm rolling with it.
Headcanon based off this image:
Tumblr media
I'm aware this isn't Mo Xuanyu in this image, but it made me think of this idea anyways.

MDZS has not let me move on
It has been 10 months...help, I can't move on. It's all been MDZS Donghua, CQL, MDZS Q, MDZS Manhua, and MDZS novel again and again.
MDZS brainrot ha. Help me. Was MDZS enlaced with something? It's so addicting for no reason. It's everywhere. I was watching "The Book Of Life" yesterday, and I was reminded of Wangxian whenever the ML started singing to the FL. Because, Wangxian and music. I'm in no way saying they're similar or anything offensive, everything just reminds me of MDZS, and I think I'm going crazy.
Tell me I'm not the only one, please.
