I couldn't think of a prompt for you until I remembered that Lou loves PSLs, so now I think Tommy must too.
Maybe a fluffy little thing where his boyfriend gets him a PSL on the first day of fall because he knew Tommy loves them? Maybe another coffee date where they actually talk?
❤️❤️ thanks queen ❤️❤️
I totally misread half of this prompt, but they do actually start to talk! Here you go ❤️
The first time Buck ever bought Tommy coffee, he stared at the menu and thought, ‘he seems like a “I take it black with one sweetener” type guy.’
The next six months consisted of Buck learning many new things about both Tommy and himself, but one of the most interesting was the fact that Tommy was the complete opposite of a black-with-one-sweetener guy.
He liked his coffee sweet. Really, really sweet. No artificial sugars, he wanted the real thing. He always asked for extra pumps of flavoring, triple the regular amount of cream, and, if there was any room left in the cup, he’d fill in that remaining space with coffee.
“The actual taste of coffee is so gross,” he explained to Buck one afternoon as they laid in bed, naked with long limbs draped all around each other. “I’m convinced anyone who says they like it is just lying to themselves.”
“So why get coffee at all?” Buck asked, hand absentmindedly running back and forth over Tommy’s chest. “Coffee places have other options, you know?”
“Habit, I guess? It kept me awake when I was in the army, and now getting a little taste of it makes me feel like I’m more alert.”
“Makes sense.”
“How did we get to talking about coffee anyway?” Tommy asked, turning onto his side to better face Buck. He placed his hand at the small of Buck’s back, drifting down until he could give his ass a squeeze. “I thought we were headed for round two?”
“Oh, we are,” Buck assured him with an enthusiastic nod. “Get to know you questions are a big turn on for me.”
“Oh really?” Tommy questioned with a sly smile. He hooked his leg over Buck’s thighs and quickly sat up so he was straddling him, then he leaned down and whispered into Buck’s ear, “What animal do you think best represents your personality?”
Buck snorted, tossing his head back with a laugh. “See, you joke,” he replied, “but that’s actually a great question where the answer may surprise you.”
“Yeah?” Tommy kissed at Buck’s ear, then at his collar bone, moving down to suck on the skin just above his nipple. “Well, why don’t you show me your answer instead of telling me?”
The questions had ended fairly soon after that.
*****
Buck shook the memory from his mind as he stared at the red door. He gripped the coffee cup in his hand and stood up straight before knocking.
He thought he heard mumbling, but after waiting a couple of minutes he knocked again.
This time there was a bang, some cursing, and a louder, “Coming!”
The door opened a moment later. “I really shouldn’t buy more cookies, Clara, but-” Tommy froze when he looked away from his wallet and up at Buck standing in his doorway. “You aren’t Clara.”
“No,” Buck confirmed. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry,” Tommy replied, tossing his his wallet onto the desk near the entryway. “You just saved me twenty bucks. Here, come in.”
Tommy moved out of the way so Buck could come inside, shutting the door behind him.
Buck couldn’t help but stare. Tommy was wearing a white undershirt that clung to his skin from either water or sweat. The gray sweatpants he was wearing left little to the imagination, and his hair was disheveled just like it would always get after they-
“You okay?” Tommy asked, interrupting Buck’s thoughts.
“Hm? Oh, yeah, I- I’m fine. Why?”
Tommy smiled at him. “Because you showed up at my house out of nowhere and you’re looking at me like I have two heads.”
Buck took a breath, then forced himself to look away, opting to look down at the cup in his hand instead. “I’m fine. It’s- I’m good. Just thought I’d stop by for a visit.”
Tommy nodded, suspicious. “Okay. Well, come on in.” He led the way into the kitchen, opening the fridge while Buck stood awkwardly across the kitchen island. “You want something to drink?” Tommy asked, glancing back. He nodded towards the cup in Buck’s hand. “Or is that still new?”
“Huh? Oh! Oh, this is for you.” Buck set the cup down, sliding it over to Tommy.
“For me?” Tommy closed the fridge, eyeing Buck as he picked up the cup and took a sip. “Mm. Pumpkin spice?”
“Came out with it two days ago. Figured you’d like it. I- I got like ten extra pumps of syrup so it should be pretty sweet.”
“I love it. Thanks. What do I owe the honor?”
“In the neighborhood.” Buck shrugged. “You know.”
Tommy shook his head. “I don’t, actually, because this coffee shop is nowhere near my neighborhood. Evan, are you-”
“Did you get hurt?” Buck interrupted. “When I knocked on the door a second time I heard some kind of thud.”
Tommy laughed, dropping his head down. “I might’ve tripped over my pants as I tried to run to the door. I just got out of the shower.”
“And you needed to race to get to Clara with the cookies?”
“Clara lives three houses down from me and is currently in a competition to sell more cookies than anyone else in her class. Apparently, I’m the biggest sucker on the street and the only one who lacks the ability to say no to her.”
“That’s sweet.”
“That’s expensive,” Tommy corrected. “But her classmate, Joey, sounds like a real dick so I want her to win.”
Buck smiled bashfully, his head hanging down as his knuckles rapped against the countertop.
“Evan?” Tommy tried again, keeping his voice steady and low, like being too loud might startle Buck and have him running away. “What’s up?”
Buck pursed his lips, then bit the bullet and asked, “We were good, right? Like, I didn’t imagine that we were good?”
Tommy paused, looked left and right, then leaned over the counter to whisper. “Do you mean, like, sexually?”
Buck sighed. “No. Well, yeah, but no. I- I mean, like in general. I’ve been thinking a lot, and I’m worried I just imagined it. Did I imagine that we were good together. Were we not really compatible? Did we not talk enough? Did we not like enough of the same things?”
Tommy opened his mouth to speak, but Buck continued.
“I keep going over the six months in my head, and each time I come to the conclusion that we were good together, Tommy. Really good together. We saw each other all the time, and when we weren’t together I thought about you constantly. We laughed, and had fun, and you made me happy, and I think I made you happy too.”
“You did,” Tommy agreed quickly. “You do.”
“And I know I moved too fast with the moving in thing, but I don’t think it was worthy of a break up. I think- I think you ran out on me and that wasn’t fair.”
“I know.”
“But it wasn’t fair of me to use you like I did afterward. I didn’t think I was using you at the time, but maybe I was. N- No, I was. It was good- great, actually, but I think I invited you over for the wrong reasons.”
“Evan-”
“But it was wrong for you to accuse me of wanting someone else. That’s not- that wasn’t fair, and it wasn’t true.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“I shouldn’t have reacted like I did though, because I said things I didn’t mean. Or, at least, the things I said came out wrong. Because my feelings for you never changed. They were always there, they’ve always been there, and I don’t think I imagined it o- or made it something it wasn’t.”
“I don’t think that either, Evan.”
“And I know I shouldn’t have ignored your calls after the funeral.”
“So you did get those?”
Buck nodded. “I did. I didn’t mean to ignore you. I wasn’t in the right headspace for much of anything and I had a lot going on.”
“Like moving again?”
“Yeah, like moving again. Wait, you knew about the moving thing?”
Tommy shrugged. “Howie answered my calls.”
“Oh.” Buck took a second to breathe, then he started again, calmer this time. “I just think that, maybe, we were both always trying to talk at the same time, or trying to listen at the same time. A- And I think that if we tried to have one of us talk while the other listens, and then we switch, I think… I think we could get somewhere. I- If you wanted to get somewhere, that is. Do you… Do you want to get somewhere?”
The two seconds it took for Tommy to gather his thoughts and speak felt like an eternity for Buck. “I would like to get somewhere.”
“Okay. Okay, good.” Buck scooted out the barstool beside him and took a seat. “So, um, how’s the coffee?”
“It’s perfect, Evan." Tommy reached across the counter to give Buck’s hand a squeeze. “It’s perfect.”

I do yearn for some lasting consequences for the Kitchen Fight though. Not like woobie!Buck flinching from Eddie or anything but Buck staying just a little bit mad at Eddie for implying Buck didn’t do enough. Eddie being annoyed that Buck moved out and he’s saddled with both rent and a mortgage and Buck reminding him that he wanted Buck out of the house. Buck making it a point to hang with Ravi more than Eddie. Eddie complaining that Chris hasn’t seen Buck in a while. An unspoken tension between the supposedly inseparable duo because at their worst, one of them lashed out and the wound is still open months later.

what I would love the most about Buck getting back with Tommy would be the dismantling of the infuriating narrative “Buck’s immature, naive and needs constant guidance in life” which hasn’t been true AT LEAST since season 5.
because Buck was right about Tommy!!! He was right for the entirety of their relationship and he was right after the break up!!!
“I don’t know what I want but I want something and i think that something could be with you” and he was right! he did build that something with Tommy. and it helped him figure out what he actually wanted, and he figured out he wanted everything with him!
and when he told people just that, everyone (Tommy, Maddie, the 118) replied “*incorrect buzz sound* WRONG ANSWER! TRY AGAIN”
but he was right!!!
your first CAN be your last! there’s no reason to be apart if they wanted to be together! he felt like he had to call Tommy and he was right about that too, he should have called him.
buck’s not an idiot, he became one of the most emotionally intelligent people in that show. I’m tired of pretending he’s still the bumbling mess from season 2.
that’s why the breakup hit so hard. because people around him treated him like it was exactly like when Abby left, like everyone but him could see it was a hopeless situation.
but he’s not post-Abby Buck, he’s post-Abby-Ali-Taylor-Natalia-Tommy Buck. He’s post-Daniel Buck. Post Maddie-and-Chim-and-Jee Buck. Post Eddie-and-Chris Buck. Post-tsunami and post-lightning Buck. Post Kameron-and-Connor Buck.
he’s got enough life experience to figure things out. he doesn’t need someone to tell him how he feels.
he knows his feelings and he also knows Tommy’s feelings and he doesn’t understand why they’re not together simply because there’s no reason. he did nothing wrong. he didn’t cling to someone who didn’t want him. he KNOWS Tommy wants him and he wants Tommy.
the only reason they’re not together is legitimately because everyone around him unintentionally gaslighted him into thinking he was wrong, that he misread the entire situation and he didn’t actually want Tommy or Tommy didn’t actually want him. because that’s what they believe.
but they don’t know. they were not part of their relationship. they don’t know Tommy and, hard to believe, they don’t know Buck anymore if they really think a 34-year-old-man comes out of 6 months relationship with no idea of what really happened there.
Buck was the only one who saw things clearly. And he was right about everything.

also while we're on the topic of buck and kids, bucktommy getting interrupted anytime they try to have sex by their 4 year old toddler who's as attention and love hungy as his daddy and feels sad when he's trying to sleep but there's no one there to cuddle him...he just opens the door teeny tiny bit (he can barely reach the handle) and looks through the crack with his big blue eyes and tiny little pout and buck and tommy (who already jumped a foot away from each other at the sound of the click) are too big of a pushover to say anything but just let him climb in the bed between them. in tommy's defense he looks just like buck only downsized which makes his little begging face even harder to say no to and in buck's defense when he denies even a single thing their baby wants he gets nightmares about failing him for the next four days

Buck walks back into the living room carrying a plate of pancakes, only to find Tommy sunk deep into the couch cushions with Jee tucked snugly in the crook of his arm. His hair is still adorably tousled from sleep, a few curls falling loosely across his forehead. He’d put cartoons on for Jee, but she’s much more interested in twisting her small fingers through his soft, messy hair. Tommy doesn’t mind at all—he just smiles tenderly, his eyes gentle.
After setting the plate down on the coffee table, Buck tries to call Jee over to eat, but she remains completely absorbed in Tommy. Buck settles beside them, leaning comfortably into Tommy’s space. With a pretend pout, he says, “Listen, even if you’re my favorite girl, I have to declare—those curls are mine.”
Tommy lets out a quiet laugh, and the way his eyes crinkle catches Jee’s attention. She gently touches the smile lines beside his eyes, then pats her own smooth face as if comparing. It’s almost too adorable for Buck to handle, but he holds strong. He murmurs playfully, “I know, I know… they’re tempting. But sorry, sweetie—those are mine, too.”
Non stopping there, Jee’s curious fingers skim over the stubble along Tommy’s jaw until they land on the cleft in his chin. Tommy grins. “You Buckleys… always gravitating toward the same things, huh—” but Buck cuts him off with a teasing side-eye and continues in an exaggerated tone, “Again, mine. Pretty sure I’ve left my signature on that spot about a hundred times already.”
Jee giggles, totally delighted by Buck’s ongoing “mine” routine. She turns and copies his tone in her sweet little voice, “No, Uncle Tommy is MINE!” as she hugs Tommy’s neck like she’s claiming territory.
Buck gasps like he’s been challenged. He straightens up and tries to look serious. “Okay, my dearest little miss, Uncle Buck will get you anything you want, just name it, but him—” He gestures dramatically toward Tommy. “I don’t think you can beat me on this one.” He turns to Tommy with puppy-dog eyes, pleading for backup. “Tell her I’m right. Right?”
Tommy is already shaking with laughter, utterly charmed by how ridiculous and adorable Buck is being. With his free arm, he pulls Buck close against his side, leans in, and kisses the birthmark just above the eye. His voice is warm and steady:
“Yes, baby. All yours.”

Do we *actually* think that Tommy is a true early bird/morning person?
'Cause I know that's the common headcanon, but I feel like he's an early riser, because it was ingrained in him since before he was in the army (his father would never allow him to sleep in, obvs) and so even with the wacky shifts he works, he often wakes up really early in the mornings, even when he doesn't have to. It's just a habit.
But he LOVES to sleep in. He used to have to come up with "good excuses" to allow himself the luxury of staying in bed. The feeling of a morning wasted ate at him, so he only ever let himself sleep in very occasionally.
But now, he's been working on allowing himself those little pleasures he used to think he didn't deserve. Not that it's been hard to give into this particular luxury, especially when his and Evan's shifts align and they have the same days off, and he wakes up in a bubble of golden sunlight, surrounded in warmth, with his boyfriend's arms around him, his skin sleep-soft, quiet adorable snores against the back of his neck. He sighs and snuggles closer to his Evan, and lets the sleepiness that was clinging to him still pull him under again. And Tommy feels such pure peace and happiness every time, he doesn't need to justify it to himself anymore.
