"No, I'm not kiddin' you, Will. That's why I'm not talkin' right now about some girl I saw at a bar twenty years ago and how I always regretted not going over and talking to her. I don't regret the 18 years I was married to Nancy. I don't regret the six years I had to give up counseling when she got sick. And I don't regret the last years when she got really sick. And I sure as hell don't regret missin' the damn game. That's regret."

"I heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor… I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains."

Here's why it sucks that Edgar Wright has left Marvel's Ant-Man film.
Although the script should be great, with Adam McKay (Will Ferrell's comedy partner), Joe Cornish (Attack the Block and The Adventures of Tintin) and Wright's contributions, we'll be missing out on all this.

Loved the score for TASM2, particularly the intricate, web-like soundscape effect Zimmer and his team create in the second track, There He Is.
I do disagree to some extent about the departure from his usual sound, e.g. for me, the development of his themes in this film is similar to how he normally develops them.
That said, I will say this - it's a review that's far more open-minded than what you'll find on the 'classy' website that is Filmtracks.com.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the continuation of a series that should have ended back in the early 2000s. This…somewhat unnecessary…reboot of the franchise had the goal of eliminating everything that went wrong with the first trilogy. For Hollywood, this meant getting more dramatic, staying more true to the story, and, ultimately, getting “hot” actors and actresses. While Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are certainly very attractive, they both don’t really fit the original descriptions of their characters. But, in Hollywood, who cares? If they can make money with these actors, then that’s all that matters. Still, the movie was great, with Jamie Foxx making an incredible debut as Electro, for he fit the villain perfectly and his acting was certainly impressive, as well as everyone else in the series. I still, personally, prefer the first film, but this is a good follow up that could definitely lead to a good set up for the third movie, set to be released in 2016.
Music has always been a focus for Spider-man, and Hans Zimmer was selected to give it a try this time around. He put a group together to help him write music, a group that he calls the “Magnificent Six”, which includes people like Junkie XL. Zimmer has been criticized multiple times by numerous critics for his use of large groups to help him write music, but you have to give the man credit. He is the first mainstream composer to ever score all three of the major superheroes, that being Batman, Superman, and now Spider-man. Clearly the man must have a huge influence because he wouldn’t have accomplished this if he weren’t wanted.
Zimmer fans, be warned. I will say first and foremost that this soundtrack is as different as Zimmer has ever strayed from his music, so this is not for everyone. I was worried when I heard the first track, “I’m Electro”, which is just a bunch of electronic noises, and because of this I immediately thought this score was doomed. Then we get to “I’m Spider-Man” and your hopes will lift off the floor as one of the most catchy brass melodies you will ever hear identifies itself towards Spider-Man. Whether you like this melody or not, it is catchy and it is certainly memorable, and you will be singing it in your heard for the rest of the day.
Then comes the popular cue “My Enemy”. Zimmer has had so much praise with this particular cue because of his original approach. He uses woodwinds!!!! The oboe is used for Peter Parker and his dialogue scenes that are certainly intended to be funny. It is brilliant. Then we get into the theme for Electro. This scene could be scored a million different ways, but Zimmer does something completely unexpected. Dub-step. That’s right, Dub-step. It is genius, for you need electricity for Dubstep to even exist. The harsh static sounds work extremely for Electro and Zimmer should be praised for taking a giant risk with this theme.
“I Need To Know” is a beautiful love theme that represents our main characters as they struggle to have a normal relationship in all of this madness. The strings here are absolutely beautiful and the percussion is just subtle enough to make this perfect for the two of them. Then the closing cue, “You’re That Spider Guy” is the highlight of the album. It brings together the Electro theme and the Spider-Man Theme that Zimmer has created and closes out the movie with an incredibly moving brass section that lifts you off your feet. You can just picture a man hanging and swinging on webs with this scene. Just brilliant.
Zimmer’s use of large groups will continue to bring up controversy, but you have to give the man credit for taking risks with his music. He is always finding new ways to invent himself, and that is a true composer at work. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a great movie that is certainly worth your time. However, when it comes to the music, go for the deluxe edition, for it has more cues on there that provide for an expanded experience. Not everybody is going to like this score, especially with the dub-step, but try your best to have an open mind about this music. Zimmer puts together an incredible effort and a different path for his music that is certainly worth examining.
Music As Written For The Film: 5/5
Music As Heard On The Album: 5/5

There's a strange irony in that movies about reaching 100% of the brain's capacity require the audience to use less than 1% of theirs.

And continuing my expression of love for all things Scorsese - you always see his artistic flair, even in a one-minute Chanel commercial - BLEU DE CHANEL.
