My mother (48) has been battling Young-Onset Parkinson's Disease (YOPD) since 2021. Sadly, she has one of the rarest and most disabling forms - Akinetic-Rigid Dominant Parkinson's - which causes severe stiffness, extreme slowness, and constant pain. YOPD itself affects only about 10% of Parkinson's patients, and this particular subtype affects only about 0.02% of the population (2 out of 10,000 people).
