Rangers Apprentice, suspense/horror lite™ edition, like The Mummy.

I’ve been thinking about it an RA movie/show actually happens, and one thing I really want is for it to be creepy.

Like, I want the Rangers to seem other worldly and strange before Will joins them, I want them to truly seem as if they are sorcerers.

I want to feel absolute dread when we see the kalkara, I want them to feel truly dangerous.

Idk I just kinda want shit to be scary.

The most unrealistic part of RA is that Will didn't spend the first year of his apprenticeship wide awake because of the amount of caffeine he consumed. Are you telling me that Halt was just like, "Yep, this seems legit," and didn't proceed to regret his decision for all eternity?

Okay, but:

The last chapter of The Ruins of Gorlan when Halt tells Will how he knew is father just hits differently, ya know? Like, Will has spent his entire life, the entire book, wishing to know who his family was, wishing to be just like his father, and even though he finds out his dad wasn't a knight, he discovers that his wishes still came true.

But Halt is also careful to explain that Will is his apprentice because he earned it, which is so important because Will grew up thinking he had no real skills and perceived himself as useless.

"I made sure you were looked after because of your father. I chose you because you showed you had the abilities and the skills that were needed. And you also seemed to have inherited some of your father's courage."
