@vcnities / quidditch pitch.
“please fucking calm down i can’t hear myself thinking between everyone else screaming in my ear.” arden snaps, having found herself at an empty spot, she had an inkling of an idea of what was happening she just didn’t think it would be all so dramatic—she was a selfish creature before anything else—with little to no regard for most humans. she grabs her cigarettes from her pocket and places it in her mouth before getting up on higher land to overlook everything. “they’re really going to kill themselves,” she watches a minor stampede in the crowd and shakes her head at them. pity.

꒰ 🌹 ꒱ — 𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒓 ﹕ @beforedawnstarters .
any sudden call was bad news , but the urgency of this one had left dorcas on edge — the tightness in her throat a vice grip as she reached to the quidditch match and set to work . she’d been trained for this , she knew what she was doing : yes , she felt the panic rustle inside her uncomfortably but there was no room for it now . later , when the dust settled and she was alone , but not now . it was not the wisest decision — running through the thick smoke in search of those concealed by the black wall — and the dry , burning cough was far from pleasant , but it was worth it as she nearly bumped into someone . " hey , hey — apparating won’t work , but we need to get you somewhere safe . i’m dorcas , field mediwix . "
she had looked at the other in confusion wondering why they were so worried, she had an inkling about what was happening but had decided against it, though, the rock of everything had set her back at the quidditch game, there was too much smoke and she couldn’t see much. she had looked at the other for a brief moment, “oh, i’m fine,” she says, throwing her hand against the slight bit of wind. “i just think i need to get out of the digest of people,” she says with a sigh.

@beforedawnstarters OPEN!! || WHERE: literally any part of d. alley you want
gus was wearing a grin as he sat back on the bench, arm stretched out over the back, not a care in the world. “no, alright, so I was having lunch with the girls today, and you’re never going to believe what they told me.”
arden had placed the cigarette in between her mouth and used her wand to light it resting back against the bench. she didn’t want to go back to work right now so she would get used to the small talk with her fellow unspeakable and death eater. they already spent an enormous amount of time together and despite arden’s need for private time there wasn’t much she could do right now plus she didn’t mind a little bit of gossip. she normally stuck to herself and her job than mingling around with other unspeakables. “it better be juicy,” she says, blowing out the cloud of smoke.

“perfect timing! I was just about to grab a bite, it’s second lunch, you hungry?”
“i’ve been cooped up in the dark too long so i think i could use a bit of sun,” she says with a small smile, the life of an unspeakable was quite literally a dark one. “and lucky for you i haven’t even eaten yet.”

oftristans:
the smile plays on his lips , knowing that he’s won this battle but arden would somehow win the war . it’s with a certain fondness that he gives his friend one more apprehensive look , wishing that was some way to freeze time . this is how he wanted to remember her - smile bright , eyes still filled with ambition and lips tired of smiling . ❝ someone’s got to be able to appreciate sleep around here . plus i reckon it will serve me well when i’ve got to head back to hogwarts , right ? those who were early for breakfast always did get the fresh pastries . ❞ he says in defense , even though arden definitely was armed with the best evidence that he was always the first to fall asleep . it was arguably one of his most boring traits - but really , tristan was arguing he was saving everyone from his irritability . ❝ i wouldn’t have it any other way . ❞ he then says with a content hum , already moving from his seat and offering her hand . ❝ i cannot in good conscience let you wander alone , especially with all the happenings lately . ❞
tristan, was by far, the best friendship she ever had, and the most sacred, she had tried so hard to keep him away from all of her dark, while trying to keep him close at the same time, because she knew that his heart was too good and fragile, and if she were being honest, deserved more than her. she unfortunately, couldn’t let him go, as much as everything was screaming for her to. she had wanted to roll her eyes at him, but she was a good student at hogwarts, traded all of her good study material for secrets and leverage on anyone that could hurt her or the people around her, she had to make a profit somehow back then. now that she was an unspeakable and they both had such adult jobs now she could see where he was coming from, but that didn’t mean she tried to stray away from it because she was terrified of going home to a very lonely house, the one that she had bought herself, that was close enough to the ministry to walk because she couldn’t stand the thought of being home anymore. “i dunno, tris,” she says, though her voice was less exuberant now, “i think it’s just an elaborate ploy to get of hanging out with me,” she says with a small smirk that doesn’t stay on her lips. it was something that she was getting used to, so many beneficial friendships, she knew that tristan wasn’t one of them, but she was someone that had always needed that kind of validation that someone wanted her, in any kind of way. “oh, you,” she pushes his shoulder slightly as they walk out the pub now, “i can handle myself just fine,” and it was true, given her track record, but it was nice being though of in such a way. “i’ll let you be the gentleman for once, i guess.”

silasselwyn:
silas had taken a little bit of time of work after the incident , deciding it was probably best he didn’t go there for a while . he hated that his job was so public facing when he was trying to stay out of the public eye until the anger from him leaving home died down . he kept his head down as he walked through the village . he was technically was supposed to be hanging out with his new friends , except he didn’t want them to see how bad of a shape he was in today . he looked terrible and he knew it . out of all the people that he could run into , arden was not the person he expected . “ i don’t think i should be drinking tonight . i’m still recovering . ” he knew his voice was quiet , just loud enough that she’d hear . silas gripped the edge of the bar , watching his knuckles go white . “ what brings you to out here ? ” silas asked , eyes still affixed to the bar top .
“good thing it wasn’t for you,” she says, sliding her hands over towards the shot, taking it with her hand and shooting it back quickly before signalling for another to come her way. “and how are you, blood traitor?” she asks, tilting her head to look at him- and he did, honestly, look like shit, and arden was never one to sugar coat it. she had heard through the grapevine of being a marked death eater now of what had happened to the selwyn boy, but if she was being honest at the moment? she didn’t care. she was off the high of winning any kind of quidditch game, just some moment of her getting back some kind of normalcy, though she couldn’t say the same for the other. “just played a game of quidditch, didn’t want to go home,” she says when he asks, seeing the bartender give her another round of firewhisky, she taps her fingers against the glass before taking them again. “and you?”

“how would you feel about being my maid of honor?”
@ardenconway
“that depends,” she says, tilting her head to look at at the other, “do i have a say in the bridesmaids dresses?” she had joked before relenting. “of course, as long as they’re not yellow, they flush out my colour, you know.”

dajovargas:
She talked like their grandfather, but she didn’t hold herself the same way. She didn’t look at him like a pile of sick he’d just stepped in. Did she know? Had they told their precious little princess about him, about the reason they’d been shamed out of Mexico in the first place?
“My Mamí, her name is Palmira Vargas. My name is Benjamín Vargas. Do those names mean anything to you?” Dajo doubted it. Why would they trouble the family favorite like that? “Did our grandfather,” Dajo said the words the same way Francesco Sr. always said his name, “Tell you anything that matters? Anything at all?”
–
arden was the ambassador’s daughter protege, even if she was everything her mother made her out to be, the men in the francisco family took credit for most of the women’s work to fix up their image. arden wasn’t proud of it, but this was who she was, and she was proud to be her mother’s daughter, that held the last name, even if most people in mexico didn’t understand it, didn’t understand of most that they went through in this superbly white place that her parents had landed her in. she had missed summers in mexico, but as she had gotten older those visits became less and less as she got older, more responsibilities, her mother had told her, and when she had gotten the mark and gotten engaged it had further proven that point. when the boy in front of her starts to speak she holds no curious face, nothing that forms shock. and when they mention their her grandfather she knew what she was meant to do, how to act.
“no,” she says, her voice and face passive, though it was new to her, she had looked at the other with a raised eyebrow. “i’m an only child, you must be delusional,” she says, the words sting on her tongue before she reiterates herself, “though, i wouldn’t be surprised. the wix mexico gossip must be incredibly bored.” there had been rumours of course, rumours that her mother had told her to bury, and of course, she had never believed any of them, because why would her parents lie to her? “i suggest you get your latest scoop else where,” she says as a warning, because she wasn’t beyond blasting their arse into the next century in front of thousands of people, especially because she had work in a few minutes.

“I’ll be an overachiever once I actually achieve something– still got two years left.” Reg shrugged, downing what was in his cup before taking the bottle to fill it back up. “Why’re you heading out?”
“hm,” is all she says, knowing the house that he had grown up in, though she was a bit biased if she didn’t have the same. she was an ambassadors daughter and a nott, though she resisted the urge to roll her eyes, instead, taking a drink of the alcohol. “because i feel incredibly old among most of these.... children,” she says, not being able to name one person that actually meant something other than narcissa herself and regulus.

where: hogsmeade.
it had been a long time since arden had been on a quidditch field, but when had asked if she wanted join in a random match she couldn’t say no. she had brought the latest broom not that long ago and was itching to finally get to use it. by the time the match had finished, her team of course, winning, she had decided to make a stop into hogsmeade to get a pint. she had hauled her broom with her setting it besides her before waving down someone for a drink. “firewhisky,” she said, trying to fix the hairs that were a little bit more frazzled than the most. despite the match, none of the people that she had played with wanted to get an actual drink with arden given her repuation, which would normally make her roll her eyes or worse, she was just desperate to play at least one round.

“That was the day I became my mother’s daughter. And the moment it happened was the moment I became the most monstrous of us all. The yearning to please her spread through me like a shadow, fighting against every urge I knew she’d perceive as weakness. Every flash of regret and sympathy that would lead her to believe I was impure. Abnormal. Defective. And in a blink of an eye, the child I was became the creature I am.”

any other night and he likely would’ve thought better of simply remaining out in the open. he’d received the message half-way through the job he’d been working, nothing more specific than ‘this woman has been hurting people, keep an eye on her. report on if she’s a problem.’ which hardly sounded complicated. had he taken a bit more time to consider the assignment he might’ve chosen to be a bit more discreet, unassuming. instead he stops half-a-step after she does, watching and waiting to see what her next move would be. “i doubt that’s necessary, i would hardly say i’m doing much to conceal myself in the first place.”
arden had always been undermined by her male peers as less than, because they had to believed her so, and it truly never bothered her, because she was raised by selena castillo-nott, a powerful witch that had taught arden that she would always be on her own and that she would always need to be on her best behaviour when she was alone. when she hears the voice, she smiles, a little wickedly, before turning around to look at her opposer. he was much taller than she was, and if he came from the order, had some kind of plan against her that she was ready for. she had seized up the other very briefly, taking a deep breath before she sighed, rolling her eyes, “pity,” she says to the other, “and here i thought you would make it interesting,” she quickly grabs her wand and says, “expelliarmus!” walking towards him before casting, “expulso!” she was a woman in a dark and bleak alleyway, she had watched as his body collided in with the concrete watching as bits and pieces fell on top of him. she had leaned down looking at his wand within her own, reaching out to tilt his chin towards her. “and what were you plans to do with me, hm?” she questioned, her grip on his chin tight, but there was darkness in her eyes, “were you planning to turn me in?” she had grabbed her wand and pressed it against his neck, “petrificus totalus!” she quickly said before he could answer, it was her favourite spell, the kind that immobilized them and made them listen to her, whether they liked to or not, she felt in power and in control, something that she lacked in her own home life, so she had to get it somewhere else. “if i ever see you again i will have no hesitation to kill you, do you understand me?” she snarls, letting go of him before kicked him in the jaw.

the dark lord had sent her on a mission, the specifics? she didn’t know nor ask about it, she just did as she was told, which was unlike her, but she knew that when it came to matters like this it was best not to ask many questions. it was late and dark by the time she made it to knockturn alley heading to borgin & burkes. arden had been accustomed to people around her, and there was no one out here aside from her and the obvious person who was currently tailing her. she had her hands on her wand in her robe pocket, hood up, she had stopped halfway there, not turning back before she said, “so, are you going to make your presence known or am i going to have to do that for you?” she says, her voice a monotone.
