IV.
*Lacey*
Early afternoon Penny dropped the costumes. Dad wanted to back out of it but she said something which shut him up. I loved this woman, she was amazing. I had to get to the Hard Deck around five to help with the decorations. I put my dress into a backpack and left the house leaving only a note on the table.
“Finally you’re here! I have so many stuff to put up.” From the colorful disco balls to the lights Penny didn’t leave a single thing out. “I hope you brought your dress.”
“Of course I did. It has more colors than I have in my closet.” I giggled.
“Good good. Anything fits to it.”
“Who will be the third in the band?” I forgot to ask yesterday.
“Cam.” I really hoped she’d be okay with me tagging along.
When we were decorating she arrived and helped us. She seemed really cool but I didn’t want to push myself onto her. We talked a little and she told us about last night. A little competition she had with the aviators.
“I think it’s pretty good.” I took a few steps back looking around the place.
“Nice job.” Cam held up her hand for a high five. Smiling I hit it.
Slowly everyone we knew arrived and with them the rest of the people who usually come here. Costumes everywhere. Hangman dressed us Danny from Grease. There were leather jackets and colorful suits. Gosh it was amazing. Bradley and Carrie arrived too dressed up as Johnny and Baby from Dirty dancing.
Which kinda hit in the guts that dad arrived with them. He hugged Carrie and placed a kiss onto her head. I felt like that he loved her more than he ever did me.
“Lacey have you met Carrie? Bradley’s bride?” He smiled.
“Yes. Yesterday.” I nodded and felt like crying. As much as this night sounded good I wanted it to end.
“Go sweetheart, Bradley get something for her to drink before the rush.” He patted on Bradley’s back. I wasn’t jealous of him but that he liked a random girl more than me was an arrow into the heart.
Cam already changed into her costume and was talking to Hangman. She was so gorgeous and just loved. Iceman was amazing and her friends seemed cool too. I know that my father was the legend, the Maverick but I couldn’t help but think that he wouldn’t be who he is.
“Penny I’ll stay here you can go change if you want to.” I smiled at her.
“Sweetie you’ll change too. I don’t know what’s going on in his head but I’m sure as hell I’ll have a few words about that.” She sent lightnings with her eyes.
“No. Please don’t. It’s okay, I don’t belong here anyways.”
“You will have a good night, because you deserve it.” She hugged me like mom did. “Let’s go sweet pea, we’re gonna change. Cam watch the bar for a sec.” She told her.
We had the jean costumes. Ruffles on the lower leg, golden belt scarf around the waist, a blue-white top and a jean jacket.
“I think you look amazing.” Penny pinned my hair back.
“I don’t feel like it.”
“Darling don’t let any man ruin your night. Even if it’s your father.”
“Thank you Penny.”
When the clock hit nine almost everyone in the bar singed karaoke and many people were dancing in the floor. Penny’s words helped then, but it just wasn’t easy.
He was talking to his pilots. Laughing, smiling and buddying with them.
When Carrie started talking to him he was all ears. She giggled on something that he said and then she hugged him. Like I did when I was five.
I wished mom was here. She’d know what to say. She was never afraid and..she is dead.
I felt the tears gather in my eyes.
“I’ll be back in a sec.” I shouted trough the crowd and went to the bathroom. The most of the people were men so right now body was here. I looked into the mirror.
Eyes red. Tears ruining my makeup and nothing was alright. It was all a mess and I didn’t know how could I act like I was okay. I was not, I wanted mom back. I wanted the weekend dinners with my grandparents but most of it all I wanted back my childhood. Now the tears were streaming down my face. Since the accident it was almost a daily thing.
I started to wipe my face but then the blood started dripping from my nose.
“Fucking hell, now again.” I cried and sat on the floor shaking. Trying to stop the bleeding.
The door opened and I really hoped it was just a girl in the need of the toilet.
“Lace, jesus..” Bradley walked in and kneeled beside me. “What happened? Are you okay?” He pushed my head a little and pinched my nose at the bridge.
“I’m okay. It will stop soon don’t worry.” I still sobbed and I hated myself for it.
“Fuck.. we need more tissue here.” He jumped up and got paper towels from the sink. “Give that to me.” He pointed at the dirty one.
“No, you’ll be bloody then.” I said but he laughed up sweetly.
“That’s the last thing I care about right now.”
He sat down beside me changing the tissue to a clean one.
“Thank you.” A teardrop rolled down on my cheek.
“Does this happen often?” He asked as he gently pulled me back against his chest. Now my head was on his shoulder.
“Only a few times.”
“What did the doctors say about it?” He was still pinching my nose bridge.
“That it can be from the trauma.”
“Gosh what’s Mav doing.. he should be here now.” He said almost angrily.
“You can go if you want to. I’m fine.”
“No. I didn’t say it because of that, but he should be here next to you.” He tucked my hair back.
“It’s okay.” I breathed out.
“No it’s not.” He placed a soft kiss into my hair.
My eyes were closed it felt so safe leaning against him. It was like nothing can get me. I wish we could stay like this forever. Even if we are in a bar’s bathroom. But then I remembered that it was the place where dad ultimately made mom fall in love with him.
I thought crying was over but I broke out sobbing again like a child.
“Gosh Lacey…” He probably knew the story, it involved his father too. He held me tighter and pulled even closer to himself. “It’s all gonna be alright.” He calmly said and let me just cry out all of my tears.
“I can’t do this.” I cried out. “It’s either the nightmares or the memories. I could have helped them. I should have saved them.”
“Shhh.. god you have to calm down. The blood is just too much, you will faint if you can’t calm down Lace.” He turned me to face him. One of my legs were over his bit I was still sitting on the ground. “You have me, breath with me. Come on. There’s this thing called box breathing. Breathe in, one, two, three, four. Hold it for four.” He counted again. “Now breathe in slowly.”
I didn’t know how he did it, but slowly I got calmer and the bleeding stopped. His hand were already covered with the red fluid. Cam opened the door.
“Holy shit.” Her eyes widened by the sight of us. “What happened here?” It was a poetic question. She saw the tears and my bloody nose.
“Wash up Brad, I’ll get her cleaned up.” Cam helped me up and wet a few paper towels meanwhile Bradley washed off the blood from his hands.
“Thank you.. both.” I said when I could finally breathe normally.
“It’s nothing. But I should go out before more ladies come and I’ll be in trouble.” He smiled and I almost forgot he had a fiancee. After he left only we were left in the room.
“I can’t believe that Mav is this ignorant.” Cam fumed.
I shrugged.
“That’s how it is.”
“And Bradley?”
“What about him?”
“I mean, I’m sure he’s doing okay?” I wasn’t sure what she wanted.
“We both know that too-sweet-angel bitch isn’t right for him. You were the one who Carole mentioned once.”
“She did what?” My eyes lit up by the name of her. Gosh I wish she was here.
“Once she said. She’s found the one who looked at his son like he was the sun.” She sadly smiled. “I could never ask her who she meant then, but I know now.”
“Please don’t make me cry again, I don’t think I have any more tears left.” I lightly laughed.
“I wasn’t planning to.” She too.
“Really the worst situations bring people closer.”
“They do. And you know what we gonna do? Show that bitch and your dad that we are so much cooler than they ever were.”
“By..?”
“We gonna sing.”
“I’m scared.”
“You should be. Penny chose Angel eyes.”
“Is she.. she is serious.”
“Come on, show them.” She looked at me with a smile.
So we did. Penny got the microphones and we stood on the small, quick built stage.
“I can’t believe we’re doing this.” I whispered to Cam.
“To be honest neither I do.” She giggled.
“Lace, you start.” Penny smirked. She goddamn planned this.
“Last night, I was taking a walk along the river
And I saw him together with a young girl
And the look that he gave her made me shiver.” Cam helped in. So we started.
“'Cause he always used to look at me that way
Then I thought maybe I should walk right up to her and say
Ah-ha-ha, it's a game he likes to play.” The music just took us all in. The lights were turned off and the disco balls were turning around reflecting back the colorful party lights.
“Look into his angel eyes
One look and you're hypnotized
He'll take your heart and you must pay the price
Look into his angel eyes
You'll think you're in paradise
And one day you'll find out he wears a disguise
Don't look too deep into those angel eyes” The three of us started the chorus together.
To my surprise everyone in the bar sang along loudly and a ‘one time’ performance turned into a whole concert.
The next verse was mine. And oh it was a strong one.
“Sometimes when I'm lonely, I sit and think about him
And it hurts to remember all the good times
When I thought I could never live without him
And I wonder does it have to be the same
Every time when I see him, will it bring back all the pain
Ah-ha-ha, how can I forget that name?” And accidentally I looked at Bradley who was looking right at me. I can’t forget his name.
He was singing just like everybody else. I turned my eyes away from him when I saw Ice looking in my direction. No need to be discovered.
When the song came to its end nobody let us get down from the stage. Hangman got a rose from somewhere - I don’t know how he does this to be honest - and he threw it to Cam winking. She just showed her middle finger to her in laugher.
The next song was Waterloo which is an all time favorite. It was unbelievably good.
We jumped off the stage and finally could catch some air. They continued singing other songs but I needed to go outside a little.
The night breeze was cool and made me shiver.
“Never knew you could sing.” Bradley walked outside.
“I don’t think you’ve ever asked. Also it wasn’t that good. The crowd helped.” I tightened the jean jacket around me.
“You were good. Once you’ll sing with me.”
“I know it’s about a song. But which one?”
“I’ll show you.” He led me inside to the piano.
He pushed down the first few chords.
The aviators gathered around the piano.
“You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane.” He looked up because I was still standing beside him.
“Come on Bradshaw that was THE song!” I playfully hit his shoulder. He always sang this when we were younger.
“Sit your ass down and sing with me. And then he continued
You broke my will, but what a thrill
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire.”
“I laughed at love 'cause I thought it was funny
You came along and moved me, honey
I've changed my mind, this love is fine
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire” I laughed we sang together. I don’t know if I sang or laughed more. But he made me forget. He made it all better.

III.
It was around 1pm when Iceman woke up her daughter. We could say she slept in after watching a whole season on Netflix. She only fell asleep after 3 in the morning. Ice knew that, and since Cam didn’t have to do anything in the morning he let her sleep.
When it was time he sat next to her gently shaking her shoulder a little.
“Cam, sweetie.” Iceman caressed her cheek.
“Hm..” she turned in her bed.
“Time to wake up. We’re leaving in an hour.”
“Are you mad.. an hour..” She pulled the blanket over her head.
“Baby, I know you are tired but we talked about this last night.”
“I know..” still she wasn’t moving.
“Fine then, the hard way it is..” he smirked little to himself. He did this when Cam was smaller. “Out of the bed soldier! Don’t make me say it twice!” He pulled off the blanket. “It it gonna be fifty pushups? Out of the bed!” He jokingly yelled and Cam started laughing.
“I’m not ten. But nice try.” She giggled sitting up.
“Come on sweetheart. I’ve made you breakfast.. lunch. Yeah. Come down.” He placed a soft kiss onto her forehead.
“Okay, just gonna dress up.”
Ice wasn’t too much of a cook. It was Sarah who was in the kitchen most of the time. Ice just helped in sometimes. As Cam was dressing up he called Mav. He only heard loud noises, a jet taking off.
“Where the hell are you Maverick?”
“Had something to take care of.” He said. But both knew it could wait.
“Mav, you can’t run away all the time.”
“I’m not running away Ice.”
“Yes you are! I know it’s hard but you know there are some decisions you have to make. Even if it’s rough.”
“I..” there weren’t many times when Maverick couldn’t say something. But now he seemed to be out of words. “I’m not good for this. I wish Charlie was still alive.. I can’t do this. I’m not a father, I’m a pilot.” He sat down forehead in his hand.
“Sometimes you have to be both Mav.”
“She doesn’t talk.. I don’t even know how to get closer.”
“Of course she doesn’t talk, she had a trauma, we don’t even know if she has any ptsd after it. That damn car was pushed into the cold river.”
“I know it was.” He swallowed. “I need you Ice, I need your help so bad.”
“I’m here. Go home, we’ll be there soon too. I just need to get Cam, I think she went back to bed.”
“Late nighter?”
“Was hanging with your pilots, and then watched something all night.”
“Ice.”
“Yeah?”
“You’re a good father.”
“You’ll be too, Mav.” Iceman knew they just needed to break the, well the ice. But who knew how thick was it. It was just so hard for them and god knows how long it would take. Neither Lacey or Maverick was ready to take a step ahead. Most likely they were slowly stepping back and back again.
“I don’t know man..”
“You will. Gotta go now, Cam finally showed up.”
“Dad where’s mom?” She asked.
“Went to see one of her friends sweetheart.”
“I can’t find my sweater.”
“Get ready Maverick. They are sometimes the worst little creatures. Bye buddy.” He laughed and hung up the phone.
“Have you seen it? It’s purple.”
“No baby, I haven’t.” He shook his head.
“Ah fuck..”
“Cam.”
“Sorry dad.” But she still rolled her eyes.
“We’re leaving in five.”
Well. It happened to be fifteen minutes. Eventually Cam found that purple sweater she wanted. Pairing it with black jean shorts she was all ready. The drive only took about a few minutes. None of them wanted to walk. So car it is.
Mav was already waiting for them outside with a worried expression on his face.
“Mav, what happened?”
“I got home but she wasn’t here.”
“Did she took anything with her? Clothes? A bag?” Ice lifted his eyebrows.
“No, everything is here.”
“Mav did you tell her we were coming over?” Ice asked and Cam was already laughing in her hand.
“I.. No I forgot.” He realized.
“Call her then.”
But he was hesitant.
“Oh my gosh Mav.” Cam laughed up loudly.
“You don’t have her number?” Ice facepalmed.
“I don’t…” his friend sighed. “I suck at this.. jesus.”
“She’ll be back. Don’t worry, let’s go in.” Ice pushed Mav into the house by his shoulders. Cam was still giggling about how much of a mess her uncle was.
“I mean. You start with every girl getting her number, how did you miss that step?” She asked Mav.
“Shut up Cam.” Ice playfully hit her thigh.
“No, she is right.” Mav smiled a little.
They heard the door open and Maverick jumped up faster than a missile.
Lacey didn’t realize that someone was at home and when Maverick rushed out of the living room she almost screamed.
“Oh gosh.. where were you? Why didn’t you tell me you were going away?” He didn’t mean to but his voice was more aggressive than it should be.
“Mav..” Ice heard it and warned him.
“Because you weren’t home..?” Lacey asked raising her eyebrows.
Ice walked over to them smiling.
“It’s nice to finally meet you. I’m Tom Kazansky, only Iceman.” He shook her hand.
“It’s nice to meet you. Lacey.” He looked kind and she still saw some of the mischievous spark in his eyes. She heard stories about her father and Iceman. When they were still young and flew together. It was always her mother who was telling their stories in stead of her father, who should be the one. Her smile slowly died down, and Ice noticed that.
“I want to introduce you my daughter Cam.” He hugged her shoulders.
Cam recognized her from last night, she was the girl Hangman tried to hook up with. Twist of fate huh?
“Hey, it’s Lacey.” A fake smile was the only thing she could gave.
“I saw you last night. At the Hard Deck.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, you were talking with Penny.” And ditched Hangman. Cam added in her head.
“Oh, I’m sorry but I didn’t see you.” She admitted. It was only Penny and Hangman she remembered.
“It’s fine.” She waved it off.
“You were at the Hard Deck?” Mav asked.
“It’s the genes what took her there.” Ice patted his shoulder.
“To be exact I’ll work there.”
Mav wanted to comment it but Ice spoke up first.
“Really? That’s gonna be good.” He nodded. “You know Penny and you father has some, business going on.”
“Do they?”
“Oh yeah. Right old man?”
“Don’t old man me, it’s not me sitting in an office.” He rolled his eyes.
“Still I’m saving your ass every time.” Ice hushed him. “Girls why don’t you go out, beach maybe?”
“Dad I told you I’m meeting up with the guys.” Cam looked at her father.
“Take Lace with you.”
“Oh no, it’s okay. I have program for the evening anyways.” Lacey smiled lightly. Ice was acting like we were fifteen. It’s funny a bit.
“You sure?” Ice looked at me and then gave a look for his daughter.
She nodded.
When only Ice and Mav was in the room they started talking.
“She will lose up. Good thing she opened for Penny.”
“I’m just bad at this.”
“What would he say right now?” Iceman looked at his friend. Deep into his eyes.
“Don’t.. don’t bring Goose into this.” He swallowed his tears.
“You’re not listening to me Mav.”
He didn’t say anything. Ice knew he needed some time.
“Imma go now, think.” He stood up patting his friend’s back.
“Don’t go.” He finally said.
The night at the Hard Deck just begun. Penny was teaching Lacey, just explaining her everything. The job was taking her mind off things, the constant spinning and small chats with the aviators seemed to help.
Soon Cam appeared on Hangman’s side, Coyote, Bob, Phoenix coming with them. Fanboy and Payback arrived a little later. As usual they were playing.
“So there will be this night.” Penny started when they had a little time to sit down.
“What night?” Lacey tucked back a strand of lose hair which escaped from the big hair-clip.
“We’ll be hosting an old timer night. 20’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s. And I was thinking.” Penny smiled.
“And when will this night be?” Penny had the talent, somehow only she could steal little smiles from Lacey. Maybe it was the place helping too. But at the Hard Deck she thought less about that night.
“Friday.”
“It’s tomorrow!”
“That’s the best thing. You don’t have to wait.”
“So what were you thinking about?” She shook her head smiling.
“We should dress up Donna and the Dynamos.”
“We?”
“Of course.”
“But they were a trio.”
“Ah that’s settled. It’s on you.”
“Fine.” She laughed silently. “This should be epic though. Where are we getting costumes?”
“That’s settled too. Don’t worry about it.”
“I’m already scared.”
“Oh I forgot to mention. Pete is coming in Sam’s costume. I bought it yesterday.”
“Mamma Mia Sam?”
“It will be fun.”
“Can you sing?”
“Can you?” She raised her eyebrows.
“He can.” I pointed at Bradley.
“Do you know him?”
“Of course. It’s Bradley.”
He waved over to her but when a gorgeous girl walked in he turned his glance to her. He held out his hand for the girl. She had platinum blonde wavy, almost curly hair. She was short and a smile always sat on her face.
“That’s his fiancee.” Penny stepped beside her.
“She looks sweet.”
“She is, just something is missing from her.”
“Only the spice and everything nice.” Cam sat into one of the bar chairs.
“Yeah, look how your boy is looking at her.” Penny silently laughed. “Hangman is beyond annoyed.”
“He is not my boy.”
“Of course he is. He’s getting better. Two full minutes when she is around.”
“I’m sure she is not that bad.” Lacey said but the two women looked at her like she said that the submarines can fly. “Alright I’ll take it back.”
“Thank you.” Cam took a sip from his beer.
“I don’t fucking know how can anyone like her.” Hangman rushed over to them and the familiar cologne hit Lacey’s nose.
“Lace, I wanna introduce you to my fiancee, Carrie.”
Her hair wasn’t enough, even her name is like Carole. But the weird thing was that truly nobody liked her. Aside from Bradley and Maverick.
“It’s nice to meet you.” She shook her hand.
“I’m happy to meet you! Bradley sweetheart told me many things about you.” She smiled. Somehow too sweetly to be true.
When she and Bradley went back to the rest of the group Lacey quietly said, which only a few could hear. Even she had southern accent. The only thing missing from her, was the fierceness of Carole
“This is a very sick joke from life..”

II.
“I’ll walk you home, it’s getting late.” Bradley said.
“It’s only nine.”
“When 9pm happened to became only for you?”
“You know I’m not ten anymore?” I lightly smiled at him.
“I suppose looking at by you I see. When do you go to bed?” He asked it like he did six years ago.
“Seriously Bradshaw.” I couldn’t hold it in and laughed up.
“I’m dead serious.” He fixed his baseball cap.
“What’s sleep?”
“I’m not surprised. Come on. You gonna go sleep early tonight.” He motioned towards the door.
“Sure dad.” I shook my head. For a moment I did forget about all what happened.
“Mitchell will come around.” He said as we started walking on the dark streets.
“You don’t have to say anything. He is Maverick, the legend. He is not a family man.” I repeated mom’s words.
“He’s just, he’s trying I’m sure.”
“What was it like when Carole was gone?” I shallowed my tears.
He didn’t expect the question or it still hits him hard as the day it happened.
“I’m sorry you don’t have to..”
“It was cold, empty. And I felt like that all I knew and loved was gone. She.. she was a very fierce woman. I’m sure she and Charlie are now sipping some iced tea.” He breathed out laughing on the last sentence. “There will be easier and harder days. Sometimes I couldn’t get out of the bed. Mav was there to get me out. He will help you too. And you can call me, even in the middle of the night.”
“I won’t bother you Bradshaw.” I shook my head.
“You never bothered. Remember when you slept in my room because of that storm?”
I smiled to myself. It wasn’t because of the storm. I just couldn’t sleep. There were nights when I just couldn’t, insomnia? I don’t know. “I know it wasn’t because of that storm.” He smiled.
“True. But I still couldn’t sleep. My sleeping schedule was never too good.”
“Brad. Brad!” I whispered shouted to the sleeping boy.
“Hm?” He turned around in his bed.
“Can I sleep here?”
“Mhm.” He hummed yes opening his covers.
“I couldn’t sleep.” I laid next to him hugging his chest.
“You’re so cold.” He whispered hugging me.
“No, you’re just warm.” I sighed.
“Shut up little bird, sleep.”
“I’m not a bird.”
“No, you’re talking and I wanna sleep.”
“I can’t sleep.”
“Listen to the sky.” He breathed out and fell asleep.
He knew that was what dad always told me.
“I know.”
“Well.. thank you for walking me home.” I opened the fence.
“Don’t lose your life. When you feel like it call me.”
“Good night Bradley.” I hugged her.
*3rd pov*
Cam was sitting next to Hangman. They were old friends, maybe at points more than just friends. Cam was Hangman’s shelter. He didn’t always had the best relationship with his parents, he had lot of fights at school. And when he got into an argument with his parents it was always Cam, he ran to.
And when Cam had a fight with her father, Admiral Kazansky she went to Hangman.
“I bet I can trow all the three arrows into the red middle.” He smirked at Cam.
“Bullshit.” She shook her head. She knew he could. But she was not gonna let him to.
First. The middle. Second. The middle, again. Big when he threw the third she accidentally sneezed and pushed his body which made him miss the small red middle part.
“You little shithead!” Hangman turned to the girl laughing next to him.
“What? I sneezed.” Penny laughed on the two of them. Little troublemakers they were. But she adored them.
“The big and great Hangman missed the middle. Oh gosh. You’re getting old sweetheart.” Penny sighed.
“I am not!” He disagreed heavily.
“I’m mean. Girls like older men so.” Cam added.
“Sooner or later he might have a few white hairs.”
“You both can stop. Now.” He left for the bathroom.
“Cam! Here! Let’s play.” Coyote invited her the the pool table.
Only a few minutes later a new girl arrived. They knew she was new. Nobody saw her before. Long dirty blonde hair tucked behind her ears. Only wearing some leggings and a sweater. It had the navy’s symbol and Top Gun written on it. Still. They had no idea who was it.
“New meet in town I see.” Hangman arrived from the bath.
“Of course you need to play I saw first.”
“You guys are disgusting pigs. Always looking at girls like toys.” Cam snapped.
“That’s not true. I’ll show you how to get a girl old style.” Hangman confidently said.
“Be quick then, dad wants me home soon. Tomorrow we’re meeting up with someone.” Cam pulled her mouth.
“Who?” Coyote asked.
“I don’t know. Something with Mav.” She shrugged. To be honest she didn’t really care. Mav was reckless, possibly he did something again.
“Oh the old man. Call me after it. I’m invested.”
“Alright alright.”
“Come on. Get one of the cues. I still have to teach you how to play. I can’t believe you still couldn’t learn it.”
“It’s not my fault. My teacher sucks.” She shot back. The guys yelled a loud ‘ooooo’ a him.
“When you’re going there buddy? She looks so lonely.” Coyote smirked at his friend.
“I’ll teach this one a lesson and after that.” Hangman slapped her ass.
“You’re a whore.” Cam hit his shoulder playfully.
*Lacey*
The bartender was Penny, she owned the place for three years now. She was amazing, and I mean it. This place wouldn’t be without her presence.
“I still can’t believe that you have this bar.” I sighed looking around again.
“Well I do.” She winked at me.
“Do you maybe need a hand?”
“Sweetheart I don’t think that’s a good idea…”
“Some distraction would be good, sitting at home is… just not helping.”
“Alright..”
“So?” I asked with a little smile.
“To be honest I actually do, from 6 to 10pm.”
“It would be amazing.”
“You can always talk about what’s going on.”
“You already did more than a lot Penny.”
“Well hello there.” A blonde tall pilot sat next to me.
I looked around first, checking if it was me who he talked to.
“Uhm.. hi?”
“Hands off Hangman, she’s mine from tomorrow night.” Penny warningly said.
“But she only starts working tomorrow, I have a night.” He smirked confidently.
He was hot, I admit but smelled like good cologne and trouble.
“Well I think I should go.”
“No, please.” He smiled sweetly. Player. “I’m sorry about this, Penny thinks I have a bed reputation amongst girls but that’s a lie. I’m like a British gentleman.”
“I’m sure you are.” I nodded approvingly.
“Can I buy you a drink my lady?”
“Well..” I looked at the stamp on his uniform shirt. “Hangman, I’m sorry to ruin the night but that’s the last thing I wanna do tonight.”
“That?” He raised his eyebrows.
“Listen, you look good and I’m sure as hell you talk your way to any girl. I just, please find somebody else to charm.” I smiled at him and patted his shoulder.
“I see something happened here. Who hurt you?” He was still trying.
“Hangman.” Penny looked at him seriously.
“Fine, fine.”
*3rd pov*
Hangman went back to Cam and the guys.
“What’s up? You lost your charm big boy?” Phoenix teased him.
“She just needs a little time.”
“I’d say that too.” Cam rolled her eyes. Little did Jake Seresin know that dear Cam had a crush on him. It was small, almost not real. But it was still mocking Cam from the inside, that little spark or jealousy.
“Shut up, I know when a girl needs time.”
“Yes, yes.” Coyote nodded. Everyone knew that he was ditched by that girl. She only talked to Penny, all evening. Something was definitely up with her. But they had too much of a good time sucking Hangman’s blood so nobody went there.
Cam’s phone rang so she walked out of the bar to clearly hear her father talking.
“Hi dad. Everything’s okay?”
“Yes sweetie, I need you to get home. There’s something we need to talk about.”
“Something happened?”
“Not to us sweetheart, I’ll explain.” He said then added. “Tell Seresin that Mav will kick his ass if he does that trick again. He’ll understand.”
“Alright.” Cam laughed at her father.
“Love you baby, drive safe.”
“Love you dad.”
She walked back to the bar and jumped onto the back of the mentioned soldier.
“Sad said Mav will kick your ass if you pull that move again.”
“Leaving your partner is unprofessional.” Fanboy laughed.
“Fuck off Fanboy. You were shot first. That’s the unprofessional.” Hangman showed him his middle finger.
“I have to go guys. Dad wants me back soon.” She pressed a playful kiss onto Hangman’s cheek.
“Want me to drive you home?” He asked her.
“Nah, I’ll be fine.”
“Bye Cam.”
“Bye!”
She was home in like ten minutes. In Fightertown everything was close. That’s how they liked it. It was homey and safe. Kids could run around on the streets even during the late evenings because there were only soldiers and their families living there.
“Hi family.” Cam greeted everyone when she stepped in.
“Sweetie, come.” Iceman and Sarah were waiting for her in the living room. They looked a little too serious to her liking. “Did I do something? Cause I deny whatever is it.”
“No baby.” Ice laughed. That nickname stuck from when she was five.
“Sweetheart we want to ask you something.” He mom smiled at her.
“What is it?” Cam ruffled her eyebrows. She was scared. What the hell could happen now?
“A few weeks ago Maverick’s daughter got into a huge accident with her mother and stepfather. You knew Charlie, when you were little sometimes you and Lacey played together.” Cam nodded. She liked Charlie. She was always so cool. “She died in the accident alongside her husband. Lacey is here now, with Mav.”
“Charlie died?” Her eyes teared up a little. Sarah nodded and hugged her daughter.
“Mav called this this afternoon, he asked me to ask you if you could maybe show her around and stuff. Just hang out with her a little. It’s a hard time for both of them. You know Maverick. He is not really the family type and that girl needs someone. Especially now.” Ice said.
“Sure dad.” She wiped the little teardrop away.
“Tomorrow we’ll go over to them.”
“Okay.” Cam nodded. However she wasn’t really in the mood to get new friends she’d do it for his father. She already had everything she needed. Phoenix, Hangman jackass Seresin. And the rest of the crew.

TopGun ff/1
Well, I still don’t have a title, anyways the first chapter is here, enjoy! The chapters will get longer I swear!
Tumblr media
I.
Fightertown, US.
We arrived to dad’s house. It was a few streets away from the beach. It was how I remembered, even my room looked like how I left it. He didn’t change a thing. Probably because he was working most of the time. It was the reason mom left him, he wasn’t a family man. And I knew that now, I was the last thing he needed. Now that he became an instructor at Top Gun.
Maverick was a legend, and after his last mission they signed him for full time. The only condition he gave in was him still being able to fly. They let him, because they needed him and they knew that that was the only thing that nobody could take away from this man. He was living for the sky. When he was on his feet his eyes were turned upwards.
He was a good man, not a good dad but I could never blame him. Sometimes I kind of wished that he’d take me flying too. But never really asked, not wanting to be turned down.
I wish we spent more time and this wouldn’t be this awkward. Neither of us is talking in the car. He’s trying but doesn’t really know what to say, so he opens his mouth then closes. Glancing over to me.
I don’t know how many time he did it but I speak up.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to say anything.” My voice is raspy and quiet. Throat is dry and achy a little.
“I’m here for you.” He finally says something.
“I know.” I nod.
It took a few days for me to have energy to get out of my room. Dad was patient. He gave me space and time, we both were quiet. And we were trying to get to know each other’s routines and presence. As more days passed we talked a little more everyday. He went back to work today leaving me alone. I knew it was hard for him to get used to this all.
He talked to Iceman every night. I’ve heard them a few times. He always went to his little study when they talked.
After another week of only being around and in the house I decided that I needed some air. The other reason was that all the ice cream was gone. I checked myself in the mirror.
A white v neck cut T-shirt and black sweatpants. It was around 8pm. Started to get dark. I got my sneakers on and house keys were thrown into my pocket.
Walking in the windy weather felt nice. I got shivers as the cool breeze touched my skin. The small market was big enough to have a decent selection of ice cream. Dad’s favorite was the rocky road one. If I remember correctly. I didn’t know what I wanted. Something with caramel probably.
I reached for the rocky road one but somebody wanted to grab the same one. We both pulled back our hands.
I looked up at the man and wasn’t really ready to see who it was.
“Bradley?” He grew a mustache and definitely grew up. He was tall and the lose white shirt he wore suited his body amazingly. He had jean shorts on and just some flip flops.
“Lace? Are you back? I haven’t seem you in ages.”
“Yeah.. we can say that.” I forced a smile.
“How come?”
“Mom died.” I plainly said. What was the good way to explain what happened.
“What? What happened to Charlie?” He froze.
“About a month ago. We were coming home from my grandparents and a truck driver pushed the car into the river. My door got ripped off, that’s why I survived.” I looked away. It was so hard to control my voice and tears at the same time.
“Gosh Lace..” he hugged me to his chest. My hands were shaking again.
“It’s okay.. that’s how I’m here.”
“I wish it was because of something better… I’m so sorry. And how are you and Mav?”
“We’re fine. He’s not really used to somebody being around. So it’s new for him too.”
“I’m sure things will settle. He loves you.”
“And what’s up with you?”
“As I said back then, I joined the Navy and I’m stationed here. Months ago got engaged and that’s mostly it.”
When I heard him say that, it was like another knife in my chest. Seeing him made me feel things. Made old feelings come back but him being engaged hurt so bad.
I could have expected it, he was 28, looking like the sun. He was absolutely handsome. It should surprise me that only now engaged. Not married or having kids.
It was still pain on pain. He was smiling down at me and I was just not ready to face life. It was just coming down too fast.

TopGun ff/1
So uhm, this is the first fanfic I’m posting here (and first one in a long long time haha, pls have mercy) 😆 also English isn’t my first language, there can (probably will) be mistakes. Enjoy! Chapter one tomorrow!
Quick summary: The main line is that Lacey (the OC) is Maverick’s daughter, but their relationship isn’t the best. Her mom is Charlie and she lives with her and her husband but one tragic night Charlie and her husband dies in an accident and die leaving Lacey behind. She moves to Mav and hears that her long time crush, Bradley is engaged however both can feel their bond still.
Chapter one
Tumblr media
I. Prologue
The family dinner happened very well. Charlie’s mom was always a sweetheart, and she absolutely adored Lacey. They always chatted about some gossip because even if Charlie didn’t like it, her daughter and mother lived for the steamy banned stories. Both women were lively and full of energy. Lacey was their little sunshine and her mother was the grandma from the movies. Always in the kitchen or garden knowing the best stories.
She had that air around her, which made her ten years younger.
The house was always full of smiles.
But the night sadly ended and Charlie, Steve and Lacey had to go home because the next day they had a long day ahead. After saying their goodbyes they got in the car and the one and half hour drive began. It was mostly trough forests. The sun already sank beneath the horizon. Lacey pulled down her window. Because she needed to feel the wind, it was like that since she was young. One window always had to be open. Even if it was winter time. It didn’t matter. It was somehow coded into her.
Her hand plays outside of the car with the cold air. It didn’t matter that she was 22.
They were around halfway through and that huge bridge came. Which crossed over one of biggest rivers in the US. The Mississippi river was huge, but beautiful.
“Sweetheart at home please help me choose some outfit for tomorrow.” Charlie looked back at Lacey.
“Of course mom.” She smiled at her.
It was not planned. And they never could have do anything in the other was. All it took was a drunk truck driver to push the smaller car into the river. He crashed into the front of the car making it flip multiple times. Because Lacey’s window was open somehow the barrier on the bridge got stuck into it and ripped out the door on her side. Steve was unconscious by the crash. Charlie hit her head somewhere and it was now bleeding. She wasn’t awake either.
The car didn’t stop turning around even in the air, it only stopped when they hit the depths of the river. The water was cold, it was only the beginning of September but still it felt so cold. The last thing that Lacey could do, was to unbuckle herself and only then went unconscious. She tried to save her mother and Steve too. But no power was left in her.
Ambulance and the police was called by a driver going home from work that night. He saw the truck burning and that the barrier of the bridge was broken. He immediately dialed 911. In twenty minutes everyone arrived . Ambulance, officers and firefighters. There was a helicopter coming too, Lacey was the only one still being somewhat alive.
The next days were complete hell for everyone there, the doctor were fighting so hard for her life. To bring her back and not let her slip away.
Maverick got onto a plane as soon as he got the call from the hospital. The doctors told him everything on the phone, that Charlie and Steve was gone, that her daughter might have brain damage, and that they didn’t know if she will make it.
Maverick put aside his phobia of the airline planes - he was not the pilot, that always gave him anxiety- and rushed to the airport grabbing only a bag of stuff. It was the longest four hours in his life. Ice texted him, to call him when he arrived. He knew Maverick could do stupid things, and he also knew that airline flights freaked him out. He wanted to talk to his friend before he entered the hospital.
It was all white. Another thing that sent him up to the wall. He hated plain, cold, chemical smelling places. But that was the last thing on his mind right now. And then he finally saw her, her right side of the forehead bruised and a cut. It wasn’t deep but will leave a mark.
Lips dry, split. Looking like a ghost.
He spent days out of the Top Gun program, sitting in the hospital room.
Finally on the fourth day she woke up gasping for air, crying her eyes out. Mav was there holding her. Because he really didn’t knew what to do.
After one more week she was finally let out. It was not the cut on her forehead, or the concussion, or the bruised ribs, the trauma was pain. She didn’t have any brain damage, and luckily nothing else which would make her life harder, or not being able to do something.
Her grandparents called her every day since she had enough power to hold the phone.
A few days later they were on the plane to San Diego.
